From a real serving officer, it's not all it's cracked up to be, believe me. Hours sat on plastic chairs watching prisoners sleep in their cells, being abused all night long, or sat at hospital with someone under arrest who's being abusive, or someone you've sectioned under mental health act continually trying to escape from hospital, so you spend anywhere from 9-12 hours constantly restraining them, until relief arrives. Or the crime scene you sit on all night in the freezing cold, with no toilet, no water, no food, and no one available to bring you any... then there's the hours wasted on admin (paperwork for case files) whereby they get NFA'd (no further action) or the courts let them off with a pathetic punishment. Believe me, really isn't what people think it is. We go to more mental health calls and domestics than we do actual crimes. I've been in for 4 years and spent probably 70% of my time doing the above things. 4 years in, still no taser, still only basic driver (no blue lighting it around for me). If you want to join, go for it, but policing in the UK really isn't what most people think it is.
