This is still a dangerous disease
Test to release
Starts 16th August
Prof Neil Ferguson
Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies
The effect of vaccines is hugely reducing the risk of hospitalisations and death
And I'm positive that by late September or October time we will be looking back at most of the pandemic.
We will have Covid with us, we will still have people dying from Covid, but we'll have put the bulk of the pandemic behind us too early to tell
happy to be wrong
We're not completely out of the woods, but the equation has fundamentally changed
Clearly the higher we can get vaccination coverage, the better. That will protect people and reduce transmission - but there is going to be remaining uncertainty until the autumn

Less is for uncountable nouns like less rain, less happiness, less money. “Positives” as you are using it here is a nominative adjective used for categories. Normally they are uncountable but here you are using a plural form indicating individual tests that are countable.

Since none of those symptoms are Covid-specific, and the list is not exhaustive, they are of no use for diagnosing possible Covid cases. Good point. In Canada, September and October are when respiratory viruses and allergies always go up every year, except they didn't go up in autumn 2020 because the measures we took to unsuccessfully hold back covid totally wiped-out influenza, and almost totally wiped-out pneumonia, bad colds, and other respiratory infections. September means returning to school, but also shorter days, colder weather, and more rain. So was it just school going back? Or was it something else, or school plus something else? *We did have a couple of month stretch in some parts of Canadian provinces, and maybe a statistician could find the answer there?* I think it is worth looking into.

However we (in the UK) were a little behind Israel with rolling out the vaccines, so that might explain it too, Also here in the UK although we have used some Pfizer we have used more AstraZennicca which is a different vaccine and as of yet the jury is going to be out for a few more weeks/months.Don't worry though as the data is still highly effective at lowering hospitalisations/deaths.

Hospitalizations, number of people in intensive care and deaths are a much stronger indication even as there is a delay between infections and hospitalizations etc.. So for UK let’s look at the numbers in approximately 2 weeks from now.
