That's great Andrew👍as I said in the video, just start at top and keep everything plumb and level, and when it comes to fitting the winders, just make sure you don't box yourself in as they come down👊Part 2 will be out next week showing how I fit the winders🤘Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del

Great techniques and well explained. I doubt I'll ever fit a staircase but there's always something to be learned. Love the use of the circular saw and old school bevel edge chisel near the beginning. That's definitely something I'll use👍

Nice work Del. Small tricks like not pairing of the dowels to pointed is where experience counts. 👌. I think alot of carpenter's are versatile from roofing to being very tasty at finish work. For me carpenter's make the best overall builder. They understand stand square,Parallel, level, marking out, forward thinking. Rant over 🤣. Looking forward to the next video on the stairs. Better than any Netflix documentary 🤣🇮🇪👍

Nice on Del, looking good. I find the best way to combat FDB syndrome is to combine it with an NPD (New Pencil Day), it just gives you that little extra pep in your step to help you get through it ;-)

I didnt think there was a treatment for FDB Jim, but I think a dose of NPD would definitely ease the worst of the symptoms😁Great comment😆

Love it Del👍🏻 started working for a stair guy years ago, I was excited about it as it’s not something you do much of, unless your doing it if you follow😂 guys he had were guns at stairs at least, and boss was up there, very knowledgeable both sides of the fence ( manufacturing and installation) ‘Oz stair’ as luck would have it he lost his major contract with a very large ( national builder) which was his bread and butter work, to nice to F me off as he’s just started me and been out with his boys a bit, a lot of hanging around workshop… ‘kitting out my van’ the very odd stair install for me, and I had to say to him ‘wtf is going on just level with me’. Then I went back to kitchens I think 🙄 Squeaks was my main worry going into it as , you know what a ‘repair’ that would be 🙄 I was always going to use the PU glue that expands, bad idea? ( if it was a good idea you’d be doing it I’m thinking 😂) Anyways I usually chicken out the odd stair job that comes my way, as I’d get there but it would be like death back heat! SLOW. I’d Make zero cash 😂

Hi OSC🖐Sounds like you got the run around there mate😩I would us PU glue if I was attempting to 'repair' a squeaky tread, but I think you'd get in a right mess using it on stairs like these😬(I jokingly mention this in the next part of the video) Thanks for your comment bud😎Cheers Del

@@thetallcarpenter nah I just think it was my usual luck mate, extremely bad 😂 seen them make some lovely stairs in their factory, on spiral where they build a stud frame mock up, a lot of ‘fudging’ or putting Timbers in place then using a router ie. for handrail, I’d have been crapping my pants for fear of F ups, but they cracked on. That might be the normal way, I wouldn’t know, maybe 5-6 straight flights in my life!

Hi Del. Good video again. I noticed you use your 660 all the time now too. I much prefer it to the 680 and you get used to the blade right set up quickly. Stops you getting showered in dust all the time👍🏻

MDF stairs? If someone spills a drink these will swell up and disintegrate. I don't care how many specifications they whip up, I'd be extremely hesitant to make anything constructive out of glued up sawdust.

Hi Kevin🖐Absolutely spot on bud, as the bevelled edge of the dowel faces away from the shoulder and 'wedges' the tenon further into the mortice pushing the newel back onto the shoulder👊Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers

@@chippy977 Hi there🖐The basic parts of notching the newels and fixing the top riser/tread are fairly well established methods and we're shown to me in my early training👊The rest of it really is just thinking logically and sticking to basic fundamentals like keeping things level, square and plumb. After years of doing it myself I have definitely fine tuned the way I do things to the point where I have supreme confidence when installing them👍and ironically, stairs were the thing I was most scared of when finished my training and went out on my own😵Cheers Del

MDF stairs? If someone spills a drink these will swell up and disintegrate. I don't care how many specifications they whip up, I'd be extremely hesitant to make anything constructive out of glued up sawdust.

Hi there🖐I'm not aware of any serious issues in relation to spillages on mdf treads, but I know some people don't like it😬Cheers Del

@@thetallcarpenter Cheers! Basic MDF just does not stand up to any level of moisture...not a great constructive material imo. Not trying to diss anyone's skills here - I mean that would be pointless ;)

Hi Del, Good looking job you've done there mate, when you drove your dowels did you put the unbevelled edge nearer the shoulder? 😎😎

Hi Kevin🖐Absolutely spot on bud, as the bevelled edge of the dowel faces away from the shoulder and 'wedges' the tenon further into the mortice pushing the newel back onto the shoulder👊Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers

I’ve never fitted a staircase before did someone teach you the basics/ read a book? Is it better to just learn as you go and by doing it and over time get better?

@@chippy977 Hi there🖐The basic parts of notching the newels and fixing the top riser/tread are fairly well established methods and we're shown to me in my early training👊The rest of it really is just thinking logically and sticking to basic fundamentals like keeping things level, square and plumb. After years of doing it myself I have definitely fine tuned the way I do things to the point where I have supreme confidence when installing them👍and ironically, stairs were the thing I was most scared of when finished my training and went out on my own😵Cheers Del
