What I liked about Piers was his relaxed pose. He never seemed under pressure. But for medal prospects, in a much, much faster race, the right two guys are in the team.
@the.distanceproject

He’s a top athlete with some seriously quick times 🔥
Gotta feel for Fogg....coming off a fantastic 3:49/mile, long flights back to UK, maybe put too much expectation on himself(even subconsciously) and took the race by the scruff.... but PC (perfect tactically) and CE (BULLDOG FIGHT!!...you ran it perfectly) edged him....hope all 3 get to go to champs!
@the.distanceproject
5 ай бұрын
I don’t think Adam put too much expectation on himself, he ran the race he thought was best, considering his superior level of fitness. Piers finished great, but if the inside wasn’t opened (which it very rarely is), he would of been a comfortable 3rd - so a mix of tactics and good fortune. Similar for me, not great tactics on the last 150m - being too wide and going too early. Live and learn!

Thanks for watching! I disagree though - we have run fast times but in high quality races that were essentially time trials. Front running is a whole different ball game & use of energy!
I loved the dive across the line! I was wondering it was intentional or not? I have dove across the line in the past and it’s been because of the momentum of leaning and pushing as hard as possible which resulted in a dive. I feel that’s usually how athletes dive but I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’m so happy that you and Adam were selected! My two fav GB athletes 🙂 Ps great video production again Charlie. Top notch 👍

A slow race lets a lot more runners enter the equation. If the race had been even reasonably fast - say 3:37-3:39 - I think it would have come down to a battle between you and Mr Fogg over the last 400. But by the time Adam hit the front and tried to turn the screw it was a bit too late. But this is what championship racing is all about - very different to paced races on the circuit. Anyhow, glad to see the selectors have not taken too much notice of the result and selected both of you for the Worlds. without Jacob in the race it's difficult to predict how the races will go but on a 200m track, in a championship final a slow race can turn into a bit of a lottery - who can stay upright becomes the crucial question!
@the.distanceproject
5 ай бұрын
On paper - you’re right. But this is running… everything looks SO much easier on paper. I’ve run under 3:39 indoors ONCE in my life - exactly a week before the champs. So to expect me to have the confidence on tired legs (heat the day before) to take it out and hope to out-run a guy that’s gone even quicker, would be very bold. Not impossible, but bold. If you watch UK Outdoor champs, our best (ever) 1500 runners in Kerr, Wightman, etc. all concede to tactical races and avoid front running. That’s because it’s really hard! 🤣
@markbateman9222

Wasn't criticising you, Callum, just making a point about why the race developed as it did with neither of the two fastest guys in the field winning. Your kick is probably better than Adam's so it made perfect sense for you to rely on it. And if you hadn't moved a bit wide in the last 50 or so you would have won!

No offence taken at all! I’m all here for the conversation & opinions 🤠🤠
It was great to watch the premiere yesterday and I even had a re-watch today. A couple of questions I had which might be more suited for your next update video. Firstly are you still booking your own races or now you're with Hoka has that changed? and secondly now you're in 'bigger' races is Charlie still able to get race footage and is there any issues around copyright? (As in I couldn't go to a Premier League match film what I like and put it on KZread). Cheers and good luck for World Indoors!
@the.distanceproject
5 ай бұрын
Hi mate - thanks for watching. 1) I have an agent that supports with race entries for larger meets, but not all 2) the bigger the race the harder it is for Charlie - as media access is not granted & filming not always allowed. We’re small enough right now that big corporations like BBC / Flotrack / NBC etc. are unlikely to come after us if we use some of their footage.

Hey Callum, well done on getting to world's. Just wondering what your schedule is for s&c. How many times a week do you do it and when in relation to sessions, ie. Same day or day after?

Hey mate. 2x per week in normal training, 1x per week when racing (or sometimes none, it depends). I generally do it Mon & Weds, run sessions Tues & Fri.
I'm 8 weeks our from my A Goal 5k race, what workouts should i be doing
@the.distanceproject

Haha I’m not sure on that one! The bigger the event, the harder to make a good video… access is so so limited!
why does uk athletics select ppl at their discretion? in the us, who ever finishes 1st, 2nd, 3rd make a wild team provided they have a wild standard. just curious
@the.distanceproject
5 ай бұрын
For indoors it’s 2 people per nation. UK used a mix of auto & discretionary … they claim it’s to optimise the chances of medals, and not base things on just one trial. For example… if Kerr falls in the trial in a freak accident, they’d still want him to go and (likely) win an Olympic medal. There’s pros & cons and it’s highly debated.

Same in every country in every event. World Athletics sets the qualifying standards that athletes must meet. The nations then choose how to select these people (for example, a trial race).

Truly inspiring and, despite the two mistakes, what a fantastic race. I’m a high school student running track and xc, and it’s really cool to see the perspective of an athlete performing at extremely high levels in the same distances I’m used to racing. I was wondering how you go about trying to stay engaged mentally in races where maybe your fitness isn’t perfect, but you need to perform? Furthermore, how do you mentally prepare yourself before consequential championship races? Best of luck at indoor worlds go get em 🫡
