Thanks for putting this up. I've got the same jig that I impulse bought as an ex-demo from Axminster. I gave the dovetails a go first, but they turned out pretty badly (completely down to me) and so it's been waiting for me to have another go.I look forward to seeing how you get on. This has definitely inspired me to try doing some box joints on it.
One of your best videos...very helpful... cheers!

It is nice to see instructions, all companies should do It
In my opinion you are one of the best tool reviewers on KZread. You don’t do all the technical stuff, you just do your real honest experience.

It is a handy jig. If you need to make a lot of boxes then really speeds it up
Excellent review/demonstration and general honest overview. On the dust collection aspect I think even if that were improved (which it clearly needs to be) there would still be a need for dust collection at the router simultaneously.

I do need to get the dust connector for the router
Thanks Matt, Great review, good call buying the UJK version, I bought the cheaper Axcaliber version, which works for half blind dovetails and box joints but has a number of frustrating design flaws as a result of using plastic components that break. Looking forward to seeing your experience with cutting dovetails as I’m now tempted to upgrade.

Shame you had problems,s with that one, I nearly got one but it was out of stock at the time
I've got the silverline version, never used it yet 😊.. Now I know how to use it I'll give it a go.... Great video matt much better than the manual I got

Great real review Matt been waiting for this one thankyou. Well I think the U.J.K. jig is on my birthday list. I have done half blind dovetails before but it's the box joints I am really after . Sold my old jig did not like it. I bought a little Katsui trimmer for this operation and I must say the plunge base looks exactly the same as the Katsui offering . Oh and the Silverline bushing set fits too .

Hi and thanks for sharing your insights. Could you please let me know which guide bushing incert you are using for the makita? I havent found a working link. That would be wounderful - thanks.
Matt i'm loving your channel, and i'm a new subscriber. If you just want to make box joints and you have a table saw, just make a box joint jig for about $5 worth of timber, granted you cannot makes dovetails with it though...
@Badgerworkshop

Yes I have don't that many times but some time I want thicker joints
Heya, what insert did you get for that Makita plunge base you have to allow it to fit the bushings? Information a bit scarce online.
Good piece of thingy me jig kit mate ..... did you get it from axminster matt
Hi I'm looking for the brass plate set you had to buy separately for the makita.. didn't see it in your links can you help please. Many thanks
Hi Matt, I have a machine from another manufacturer and it is very similar except the manual is not worth the paper it is printed on. I have not used it for some time and I am sure I will have to learn again, but the dovetail joints are very easy once you remember how to make them and they are very repeatable. The point George is referring to is the half-blind dovetails, at least it is on my machine.

Great video, always been interested in having one of these jigs, look forward to see you do the dovetails, the beauty is we can always look back at your videos in the future if we get stuck, we all learn together.....👍🤣🤣🤣 I've just checked your Amazon site for the price and its currently unavailable which is a shame😔😔

Thank you. I will defiantly have a go at dovetails next week
Nice and helpful video, thanks...some of the other jigs that I've looked at have cut both sides on one pass by placing the other work piece in the horizontal support ...is that possible on this model?
@Badgerworkshop
5 жыл бұрын
I think it can on non through dovetails
Hi Matt. Great vid as usual thanks. Does it come with a smaller comb for making smaller joint?
@Badgerworkshop
5 жыл бұрын
Only does the one size of finger joint
Hi Matt, do you have to get the new router bit that is the exact width? I didn’t know if you could use any smaller bit with a matching guide bushing that can follow the comb?
@Badgerworkshop
5 жыл бұрын
That might work but it would be tricky to get right.
I have the same dovetailer and cut both sides simultaneously.
@Badgerworkshop

You can with half blind ones
Hi Matt, thanks for this review as I didn’t realise you could cut box joints as well as dovetails! Regarding the blockage on the dust extract, would it help to cut the joints in 2 or 3 passes perhaps resulting in smaller chips, hence less blockage potentially? Albeit that this would take longer to cut! (Although you may not have to spend time unblocking 😀) Dave ps: would it help to either, use a smaller washer or file a flat on the existing one?
@Badgerworkshop
5 жыл бұрын
Im sure more passes would help but I like the speed of doing them. Smaller washer?
Thanks Matt - really helpful. What sort of screws did you use to screw it to the MDF? I have one and am just assembling it.
@Badgerworkshop

Just something with a big head or use some washers

Looks like the omnijig from porter cable
Your bloody brilliant, Dovetail jigs are shit though, I do however really like UJK stuff. Not the jig, but they make really good stuff. Get a magnetic guide, and you would have cut them before even changing the collet 👍👍👍😂
@Badgerworkshop
5 жыл бұрын
You might have them cut that quick but I don't think I would
Very informative as always Matt. Think I'll stick with hand cutting dovetails. This definitely doesn't seem worth the financial investment.

Hi Matt, Aren't you supposed to cut the 2 pieces together at the same time?
@Badgerworkshop

@stevesteves8915
5 жыл бұрын
I think that with the half-blind dovetails, both pieces can be cut at the same time
@georgeblair5070

Yes, I get that now. The bottom of the cut on one piece would be rounded from the cutter. I’ll get my Coat!

I will have to try half blind dovetails as that will speed it up
7:40 what's with the tearout? Don't you use a backer board?
So, to set the guide (to guide the wood), you have to use the wood to set the guide...
@Badgerworkshop

Well thats the way I do it
Great video but there seems to be better options for making box joints with a router
If that's a great vidio I say God help us
hi there joints looks loose
