You went to a lot of effort Mate to sort all this out and then share with the rest of us so thankyou very much. AND.....seeing as how we have the same setup, and I live in Tyers, just down the road from Walhalla, if you are back this way and want two extra riding companions let me know. Id suggest you mount the PTT on the grip (assuming the left one doesnt rotate) on the wall next to the horn as shown on 9:32 (pause it), such that you can reach it with your thumb (because the thumb bends inward naturally)

Hey Keith. Bought the cable from you and just finished install and setup with a SENA EVO 20. works a treat. Play music from phone and when a signal is received,it mutes the music and opens the UHF. Can also send receive calls which mutes everything. Just a note - Make sure you pair the Bluetooth unit to the Sena as a “GPS” and not a second phone. Or you will not be able to accept or make phone calls. Great work !!

Hi Keith. Great solution and vastly cheaper than the SR10. I plan to try it with my Schubert C4 Helmet and its clone Sena kit. I'll post here when I have results. As an aside, I've just received word from Sena Australia that the SR10 is to be discontinued. Not clear yet whether they plan a replacement, but I suspect not. So, very timely content.

I have the Midland 75-822 CB Radio on my Motorcycle. Could not find the SENA SR10 device for sale (by SENA). So, instead utilized a Wireless BT Adapter (HB-6A) and Wireless Remote PTT (Key) (HB-6B) units which are battery powered and USB rechargeable. $30 for the pair, plus $15 to $20 for (10 - 15 day) shipping. The Remote PTT is nice since no wiring is required. Velcro strapped (provided) to left handlebar grip; thumb activated. Red light activates when PTT active. Paired the BT Adapter with the Remote PTT unit. Then, paired the BT Adapter with my SENA 20S EVO Helmet Headset. Works Great! Overcome the mechanical (physical) constraint (clearance issues) of mating the HB-6A Device directly to my version of Midland CB Radio, by using (making) a short extension cable. There are off the shelf 2-pin molded extension cables for purchase, but a little expensive to me. Other Midland Portable/Handheld Radio models would allow for direct connection of the 2-pin BT Adapter. The BT Adapter HB-6A-I model/version purchased is for ICOM (I1 & I2) Radios. Same 2-pin 2.5mm (2-pole TS) Microphone/PTT & 3.5mm (2-pole TS) Speaker interface as the Midland CB Radio connecters. Can pair BT Adapter to SENA Headset as a second mobile phone or as GPS. Can provide (via cable) USB +5Vdc power to the BT Adapter while in operation and installed on the Motorcycle. Although, the 7 to 9 hours of battery life is adequate for my daily rides. BT Adapter has a 400mAh battery life. The Remote PTT unit battery life is identified as 3-months. The HB-6A-I BT Adapter 2-pin 2.5mm to 3.5mm Center-to-Center pin spacing is 10mm. Other BT Adapter models are available for other Radios with K-Type (11mm) and M-Type (8mm) Center-to-Center pin spacing. The marking on the BT Adapter box received for the ICOM HB-6A-I unit is further identified as 'ModelTC-IM V8'. Consider adding these identification markings as a comment as special additional instructions when ordering online.

In regards to the short extension cable, located an off-the-shelf cable. ICOM Right Angle Adapter Cable, 2-Pin Male to 2-Pin Female. Part Number OPC2144. 9-Inches overall length. Flexible. Right Angle end at Radio 2-pin Male end. Opposite end is straight 2-pin Female. The cable exits the Radio allowing maximum clearance for the Squelch & Volume knobs. This OPC2144 Extension Adapter cable supports 3 signals per each connector, for a total of 6 signals. The Midland 75-822 2.5mm Microphone connector supports a 2-pole TS (pin-1 MIC/PTT, pin-2 Ground) or a 3-pole TRS (pin-1 MIC/PTT, pin-2 no connect, pin-3 Ground) and the 3.5mm Speaker connector supports a 2-pole TS (pin-1 Speaker, pin-2 Ground), but also accepts a 3-pole TRS (pin-1 Speaker, pins 2 & 3 Ground).

  • @keithjob

BT connectivity is about 10 metres. She would need the UHF in the cart, and you on another UHF. Range then is limited by your UHFs which is some kilometres.

  • @bozman52

    @bozman52

    3 жыл бұрын

Thanks for the quick reply! I was trying to get around her having the UHF in the kart with her, but I can likely find a workaround. At least you've settled one variable for me, in that a Sena plus UHF will not be a viable option. I've found various closed-face helmet headsets for UHFs, but people seem to complain that the sound is never loud enough. If you know of a brand that's good, do let me know. The cherry on top would be finding a helmet headset that works with VOX, but I've also head people complain that VOX doesn't work well in loud environments, which karting on a racetrack would be one.

  • @keithjob

Keith, is there a reason why you can't just use the Rhino 755 (or 755t) that has Bluetooth built-in? I'm thinking to use Cardo Bold (or a Sena unit) and connect one BT channel to Rhino 755 (US) for B2B comms, and the other BT channel to the Zumo for nav/music/phone. Then all that's needed is a PPT button for the Rhino. Alother question is I find on Garmin, that all the 700-series Rhinos actually have only 2watts. From my experience (road riding 48 states), a 5w radio is good for 5 miles max, so guessing 2w radio is good for 2miles distance. Wife and I are often further apart than that. Is there another good radio option that provides BT and longer reach? We currently use Starcom1 wired systems with Midland GTX-1000 radios (5w, 5miles), and they have worked great since 2011, but now these crap BT headsets have put the legitimately great wired systems out of business (Autocom and Starcom1). Leaves me searching for an equal replacement - which doesn't seem to exist. Any help is appreciated!

Rino BT is *one way* comms only. You can listen, but not talk back. (To be more precise it does do two-way comms with a very specific set of industrial earmuffs, can't remember the details). Other UHF's with BT built in? Motorola, ICOM, but cost you a grand.

UHF talks to UHF radios, operating in the 476-477 MHz frequency range. Not sure what you mean by "CB radio" - in Australia, that refers to the old 27 MHz system. (Which is still in use, but just not common for road traffic and amateur users.) UHF will not talk to the 27MHz band.

When I push the PTT it takes it a second for it to register - not sure if it's the PTT to the radio unit, or the radio unit to Cardo - or whether it's the Cardo that's causing the delay. It's not a voice delay, like you speak and a second later you hear it - it's a delay in the time the radio can "hear" what you're saying into the mic.

@@Yurii_Ko Literally just returned home today to find my Uniden BTX50 Bluetooth Accessory connection kit had arrived. After charging up both the Bluetooth adaptor and PTT button, and connecting the adaptor to a Uniden XTRAK50 portable UHF, I was successful in connecting it via bluetooth to my Packtalk Edge. Initially I connected it using the "Instrument display" channel/option on the Cardo unit and found I could not listen to music at the same time via my phone (Samsung S20). I re-paired the Bluetooth module to the Packtalk Edge as a "GPS" unit and while it seemed a bit fiddly/tedious as the instructions with the Uniden BTX50 kit are not great quality, I am really pleased to confirm it all works. I'm not 100% convinced yet it is a really robust combination but time will tell. I'm also a bit critical of the fit between the Radio and the bluetooth adaptor. It works, but the fit/finish leaves a bit to be desired. If I had my time over, I'd investigate the alternative Uniden portable UHF radios that have bluetooth built into them. The last tip I'd offer is to be sure of the correct Bluetooth adpator kit your purchasing for your Uniden UHF radio. There are two different bluetooth kits that look exactly the same. Hi Kieth, a friend and I just bought a pair of Sena 10rs to connect up to UHF radios mounted on our handlebars via Bluetooth ptt buttons. His older Uniden radio worked fine via one of your dongle cables. My new GME radio has a twin pin accessory port, and when the K type Bluetooth dongle was plugged in the radio went into constant transmission mode. I am trying to narrow down possible solutions. If I can’t I have only a couple of days in which I can return the radio. I’ll call GME and Sena to see if they can help but thought you may have come across this issue in your experiments. I suspect the problem is related to the configuration of the contacts within the accessory ports. This dongle I have is a K type suited to Kenwood radios with three contact sections on each pin. Perhaps the GME port has its contacts ordered differently. I note also there are versions of the dongle that appear to have the same pin spacing for some Midland and Icom radios in which the 3.5mm pin or both pins have have only 2 contact sections. Have you ever seen a GME radio connected to one of these BT dongles? It’s interesting to see the Uniden uh850 and new XTRAK 50 have 2 pin accessory port connections. I wonder whether it will be possible to use these with any of the BT dongles. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. If I can’t solve It I’ll have to carefully select a different brand of radio.

  • @keithjob

Hi Martin. Re. the GME - I know about three people who have attempted it, but I am yet to hear of any success stories. I would guarantee the pinouts need to be remapped via some custom cabling, and personally I suspect the M type is the one you need. BUT I don't have a GME radio to try a solution. Re. the UH850 - I can tell you it does use the K type, BUT you need to do some custom wiring to get there, using a UH850 accessory plug chopped up and a couple of sockets to hold the dongle. Not a pretty or simple solution like I use with the M type double-socket-plug. So my suggestion, for the absolute simplest solution, is return the GME, and buy a Baofeng UV5R which is what the K type dongle is designed for. The radios are cheap ($50) and no custom adapter cables are required as the dongle plugs straight in the side. Turn it on, chuck it in your backpack, job done. Otherwise, get a Rino 650/700 and the M type dongle works perfectly with the adapter cord that I will hopefully soon be making again. Good luck!

Hi Keith, my riding mates and I got separated during a ride near Lithgow last week, right on sunset, so I’m thinking the buddy-tracking on the Rino might be worth the extra expense over separate UHF and GPS. Before diving in, can you please advise whether the position of other riders only updates if they are within radio range (or actually transmitting) with the result you could get quite a long way further apart than indicated on your screen and have trouble locating each other? Or does it continue to update automatically, say via GPS signal, regardless of the distance separating you? Also, last year a few of your viewers complained their Rinos were freezing and speculated it might be something Garmin needs to fix. I was wondering whether you have heard of more of these problems and whether you would caution before buying one.

However, here are some questions for you, which I hope you will find time to answer, even briefly. 1) The UFH radio you refer to, is it the same as a CB radio in the USA. will it communicate with a US CB radio? 2) Who makes the dongle and how can it be purchased? 3) Would the dongle work with a portable US CB Radio?

Some answers... 1) I don't think so. CB operates on 27MHz, UHF up around 470MHz 2) eBay/Amazon.. check the build video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYmjudCQk8unqZs.html 3) Don't know sorry, you would have to experiment. They are designed for UHF radios.

Hi Matt, I've done a few follow-up videos on this topic, scattered through my channel. Maybe a bit hard to find? I've now created a playlist with all the UHF BT videos, below. Please note there is no link to the BT adapter - the ebay/amazon sellers constantly change and I have no single source. My "build part 1" explains what to search for. kzread.info/head/PL_zt7gW1mGMi2kcuqPWg-aVj5lvf80Ldb Thanks!

Receiving sound level too low. Both radios need to be turned up high. It worked for a couple of weeks then no connection and PTT didn’t connect. Sena said connected but no receiving and no sending even with radios direct sending button….. DONT WASTE MONEY

@@potterportraits I guess you have found the other headset functions (rider intercom, music, phone calls, gps audibles) when then GME XRS-660 is BT connected to your headset (eg Cardo or Sena) don't work - like are 'blocked' while radio is BT connected (even when no active TX / RX) ? that is, headset can only operate with the radio. Is that your experience or do you have a workaround ?

I talk about it in the build video.. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYmjudCQk8unqZs.html Basically search ebay for this: Wireless Bluetooth Earphone Headset PTT but be sure you know if you want M type or K type. Watch the build video linked above for more info.
