my dad said the sound of a Huey's chop-chop-chop was the most comforting sound a ground pounder could ever hear. It meant food, ammo, support, reinforcements, or a ride home.

Mark Carranza what a Wonderful comment. Indeed, we are are now enjoying the sound of the chopper, but in wartime it was something completely different. Indeed it meant hope.

No other helicopter has such an iconic sound and has become so well known as the Huey. She was a tough gal that could take the fight to the enemy and get her men back home safely, even if she was falling apart. From a medical evacuation concept, to war hero, to immortalized legend in the world of cinema and video games. People will still remember the UH-1 Huey even after 100 years.

Ah, the wonders of propaganda. Yanks never had any legitimate business in 'Nam, and the vets of this warcrime are considered heroes and true patriots. The US educational system is broken, to say the least. There is a single dominant reason US keeps taking part in overseas conflicts, and that is un criminalized weapons systems field testing.

@@mursuhillo242 i'm not american, nor did i support U.S in Vietnam War. However, what he stated above is all about how Huey did a good job in a war. Both In reality, & in pop culture such as in Cinemas, video games, sound effects, or etc. So as much as you hate that war, your reply to his comment does not relevant at all.

And with 16,000 UH-1s with another 12,000 Model 205s (civies Huey) having produced and its latest iteration, the UH-1Y, still being produced today, they'll probably get to fly them too.

Flew UH-1 Hotel back in 1970 and early 71 in country. God I love that aircraft! The rocking motion at startup, to the vibrations of the air frame at take off. That vibration telling me everything you needed to know about her. No matter how beat up she was, always manage to get all of us back safe. Have to admit, I had some doubts at the time and got a ass chewing for her condition a couple times. I believe, it made me a better pilot knowing and trusting the aircraft. Whether you were in the States or in country at that time. No one sight are smell would remind everyone of the Vietnam war. The wop wop sound from the wide-chord blades, does for all of us. It still gives me a rush and my old pecker hard!

Besides the soldiers the two most iconic figures of Vietnam are the M16 and UH-1 huey. Because if you're watching a movie or lokking at a picture, you don't even need to know the name of the movie or what it's about at first sight, or what the captions on the picture say once you see the UH-1 huey, you know instantly it's about Vietnam. Very iconic and bad ass piece of shear power

Beautiful. Miss my younger days as a 67N10 Huey mechanic/crew chief. As an A+P now..... no aircraft I have worked on brings to my heart and being the feeling the UH-1H, 1D did. I remember standing on the top of the airframe holding onto the rotor mast and scissor/swashplate arm while little kids waved. Walking in for lunch in a flight suit after landing. Testing engine igniter's... POP, POP, POP! Tapping on the removed rotors and that sound down the honeycomb. I joined the Army for this aircraft and I still love it. Should have been a pilot instead of a mechanic, though, I think sometimes.

I remember riding one of this military helicopters. I was bitten by a dog that has rabies and need emergency treatment but at that time it was only a town. If we take a bus, it will take 12-14 hrs to arrive to the city. The plane only travels there 3x a week. But good thing one of my uncle who pilots this babies is there from a joint helicopter exercise and i was permited to ride one of the 6 helicopters. Of course im on the one with uncle piloting it. It took 2-3 hrs of travel to get me to a general hospital and free of charge since my grandfather is also working at the military. And here i am 28 years later. Ill never ever forget the sound of this helicopter in my entire life. It is the sound of hope for me.

Growing up in Kentucky, I used to hear these all the time, along with the Chinook 47s. I remember when they'd approach, they'd rattle every window in the house and I loved it! I lived near the Bluegrass Army Depot and they'd frequently fly in formation over my house. It was so awesome! Thank you for the video and memory because the Blackhawks just aren't the same.

Nothing beats the sound of an old Huey beating the blades through the air. My family all fought in Vietnam and while it's been said here in the comments before, it was a sound my family members said was a sound that meant either, reinforcements, a ride home, extraction, ECT. Love to our vets!!!

I don't have any military experience and I've never even been in a helicopter, but I've got an 18 month old that gets frightened every time a medical helicopter flies over our house (fairly often) and, now that she's seen one start up and fly around a bit she thinks "copkers" are pretty cool :) So, thanks for helping a little girl out! :)
