@@johnceragioli9671 I am sure that these shows go for the drama. In real life I have done a couple of remodel projects myself and I always hold back 10-15% for contingency that I do not tell the contractor/designer about. I know I have it when they come to me and need more money. Usually my folks are pretty spot on and I have never had any dramatic surprises like on these shows. But I am more realistic than these folks, I guess.

as someone who has had several renovations done as a client and not an architect, it is understood that these projects will ALWAYS go over budget. there are always expenses that you will be unable to account for ahead of time. it works both ways, i guess. clients should give a budget a bit lower than what they can afford, and architects/builders/designers should plan around 85-90% of the budget given.

The whole idea of these videos is to see and listen to George talk about the work that is being done. With this in mind, why the overpowering music track. Soft, sensible music would allow the viewer to hear what is being said and would make the video more enjoyable to watch. STOP WITH THE LOUD MUSIC.

The orange windows remind me of the 70’s, my family moved into a new area and people were painting the trim around their exterior windows colours like orange and yellow and green while the house was brown siding. It is a pet peeve of mine when people get rid of garages or just fill their garages with junk they hardly use while their second biggest financial investment is sitting outside exposed to the elements and vulnerable to car thieves.

  • @hollyobaby6949

Love the 70’s color palette. Hate when people use their garage for junk. My car has been broken into (I don’t have a garage and I drive a Subaru so they just took some change, chargers, and a vape). I understand when people use their garage for bikes, tools, storage for season decorations, maybe a deep freezer, or a washer and dryer. If your garage is free of that stuff or has plenty of space for your car and you drive a nicer car than me I definitely think that takes precedent.

Everyone seems to forget that the only thing they objected to was the shape of the cladding- they changed it from hexagon to square. It was the planning commission NOT them who forced the major change to the original plans, wanting the architect to resubmit plans that didn't too radically alter the character of the house from the rest of the neighborhood and to blend it in more with the already existing building. So it was the planning commission being conventional, which is what you'd expect. Sure they were nervous and unsure about a lot along the way, especially as they were going out of their comfort zones in a direction they couldn't quite envision and sometimes actually disliked, but every time except the cladding, they went with it.

This renovation came way over budget! And that Architect is too imposing! He could have at least let the couple choose the colors they like instead of imposing that orange windows & pink walls. Maybe a bluish grey or a sage green would look better as accent colors. I like the black exterior finish though. But instead of a kichen, that space would be better as a Living Room. And that small overlooking balcony isn’t really necesaary. I would have elimintaed that. I doubt if they ever spend time on that desk in the corner.

This was my first time watching this show. As far as what was accomplished it's not at all my style, but it ended up pleasing the client, so my opinion doesn't count. One thing that was concerning was how far off budget it turned out, even though they had mentioned funds set aside for unexpected costs. The unexpected costs ate to be expected in any reno, but this seemed a bit excessive and didnt even include the architect that worked for free. The BIGGEST issue, for me, was how bloody loud the background music was. It was drowning out the commentary almost completely at times. As this was my first time watching, I don't know if it was just this episode, or not, but it really affected being able to follow at times for lack of hearing well what was said.

I didn't love it, I think that small front sitting room should have been wide open to the back sitting room, making one large living room. And that silly balcony, there is no reason to go on it and just look at a large, tall blank wall.

Loud music. When a client doesn't love pink, pick another colour. And why never on budget? Where do the boys sleep?

The sound mixing at 38:00 absolutely SUCKS- and happens repeatedly with fading voiceovers and simultaneous intrusive music.

They really got a lot for only £90k, I’d imagine all the other neighbors would now want to copy it, the council already approved it. Great to have been able to increase the budget by 50% and that the architect forwent his fee, perhaps to be able to increase the scope of work and because of the exposure the show provided? The 4th bedroom is the living room? The pink should be the same hue as the orange to make the pink feel more that it belongs, too many homeowners make changes to designer plans that make it rather mediocre. A logical future improvement would be a half bath downstairs in the room off the kitchen that’s below the pink room, I believe now used as a kitchen extension and for the fridge. Maybe french balconies for the bedrooms on the back…

What kind of architect goes HALF over the project cost?!?! 😮😮😮 Worth it or not... he should stick to his million dollar budgets so he doesn't financially ruin the little guys!!! 🙄🙄

I totally don’t understand why the other windows and siding wasn’t updated to match the new part of the outside. It looks odd to me. I have to say i think the architect failed to make the outside look good
