    For me the worst thing about this movie is that it isn’t even that bad. It does practically nothing wrong but that’s it’s main problem. It’s so incredibly generic and boring that it’s not even so bad it’s good. It’s just straight up not enjoyable, not even in an ironic way.

  • @floweyfangirl69420

  • @manboy4720

    @manboy4720

    the amount of enjoyability in a movie is very important to it's value. a film might have awful writing, cheap lighting, bad cinematography, etc., but if it's very fun and enjoyable to watch then those bad parts are excused (so bad it's good). but if you have a film that's completely milquetoast and everything has a totally acceptable amount of quality in it, fearing to do anything different or innovative? that's infinitely worse than any 'so-bad-it's-good' cinema schlock.

  • @Akirex5000

    @Akirex5000

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@manboy4720 Yeah, take movies like Shark Tale for example. Most people say that the movie is pretty bad, but at least most people can agree that it’s enjoyable and tries a lot of things that make it original and fun to watch despite how bad it may be. Meanwhile this movie is just a lame generic cash grab that does the bare minimum. In my opinion, the worst thing that a movie can be is boring. I’d take a bad but enjoyable movie over a boring one any day.

    I made a giant rant comment about this exact thing. I’m so glad to see people pointing it out because I refuse to believe any writer would just… DROP those implications and then completely do nothing. The movie would’ve probably been redeemed a bit more if instead of beating Lou, they talked to him instead. There had to have been something behind the scenes because that reveal and motivation is something no writer would pass up the opportunity to focus on. I would’ve PAID to be in the writing room just to fix that.

    When you compare it to what the ugly dolls looked prior, it's very clear that they had softened up their appearance to make them more "marketable." Moxy is a great example of this as they redesigned her to be way more commercially feminine looking as well as turning her pink, instead of looking like Ox because she was based on the creator's sister. Ox is him as an Uglydoll if I didn't make that clear.

    I know this movie doesn't deserve the thought put into making it something substantial instead, but here we go anyway: this would have been a fantastic opportunity to make a commentary on the 'I'm not like the others' effect, where people get so caught up in making themselves as unique or unconventional as possible with the specific goal of feeding into ones own ego. It would have been interesting to see the uglydolls arrive in less of a 'perfect' town with themes of strict conformity and fascist rule and more of an 'idealized' town full of popular trends the uglydolls believe themselves superior to. I'd take a message of "it's totally fine to like a mix of both un/popular things" instead of pitting them as diametrically opposed... but hey, thats not what the machine that spits out money says, so.

    Honestly, the one thing that makes me upset is that there was a chance to have something at least mildly interesting. It’s near the end when Lou accidentally gets hit over the finish line in the Big Toy Race or whatever it is. That small scene where he whispers “No” as the line glows red after he passes it. Lou reveals that he’s actually a prototype, a reference if you will, for all other dolls and that he’s not allowed to go to the human world. He’s stuck in the Perfection Academy (idk what it’s called), watching countless dolls cycle come in and out, while he’s stuck there forever basically. Then Lou goes mad and tries destroying the portal thing so nobody can leave again. And honestly???? THAT HAD SO MUCH POTENTIAL. The concept of being a prototype is so interesting to me. Imagine being stuck in the same place, guiding others on a path you cannot walk, while being constantly left behind. Literally??? He can’t really make friends with anyone because he knows they’re gonna leave him sooner or later, but he’s stuck. Everyone else can escape, see the world, go anywhere else, while he’s stuck to the same role. I feel like that could’ve probably redeemed a lot if they actually explored it a bit more. They could’ve talked him out of it, sympathize with him, let him see the error in his ways… but instead they defeat him like any old supervillain and throw him in the washing machine. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH I *WISH* I COULD’VE BEEN ON THE WRITING TEAM?!?! That’s an absolute GOLD MINE of character growth material that children could’ve really learned something from. How the HECK did they pass up such an amazing opportunity?! I refuse to believe any writer in existence wouldn’t have thought “Hey, what if they talk to Lou instead of fighting him?” Because the opportunity is just so obvious.
