UFO TV Series Main Theme (Identified) Cover Version

Музыка

This is my version of the CLASSIC Barry Gray opening theme for UFO more commonly known as identified; Barry was an absolute genius and is well known for many of his iconic them songs. This has to be the one that got me most exited as a kid, these were some killer opening credits for UFO, that still (IMHO) stand up today.
For my part, all the music was done in Cubase, with the exception of the IBM Selectric typewriter I got from KZread, really adds that finishing touch! I'm a huge fan of Barry Gray and I just wanted to pay homage in the only way I can!

One of my all-time favs. They showed it at some ridiculous time in the afternoon in New Zealand when I was young in the early seventies. I'd have to race home from school to try and catch it... at that time I didn't fully understand daylight saving, and I thought the time changing would mean I'd get to see it in plenty of time!!

I remember this show well from I was a boy, loved it in the early 70's! Cool music, space age style, and lots of action! I saw it on my folks 1st color TV, a 19" Zenith portable. The prequil to another of my old favs, Space: 1999. The way they flashed 1980, and showed those now very dated, looking old computers w the tape reels is funny today. What seemed futuristic and exciting to us in the 70's is now nostalgic, heck even the 1990's are now, as we approach 2024. Thanks for posting, live long and prosper, as that guy from another cool show I won't mention here would say! 🖖 🛸😁

Well, considering that we had gone from jets to landing on the moon in a little over twenty years it did kind of seem like the sky was the limit and that these trips to the moon would simply continue and become even more ambitious. If it had been widely advertised that each of those moon landings cost about a billion dollars a piece (in 1960's dollars mind you), then I think everyone's expectations might have been properly tempered to know that it was simply unsustainable

@@jim2lane- Going from jets to the moon in 20 years is nothing. What’s really incredible is that we went from horse drawn carriages to landing on the moon in only 80 years. And because of this nobody back in the early 70’s had any doubt that by 2000 we would have a base on the moon and probably on mars as well - not to mention flying cars. And science fiction writers really overestimated where we would be by then. For example I think Blade Runner (the book) was supposed to take places in 1992. This guy actually envisioned that we would have androids and have colonies on other planets by the 1990’s. And of course when the book was made into a movie we were already in the 80’s so they moved the timeline up to 2019 which was still absurdly over optimistic of them. Gene Roddenbery was a little more realistic however when he put the events of the original Star Trek in the 23rd century - although personally I doubt we will have warp drives even by then. As for the UFO TV show, although I loved the all the high tech vehicles and gadgets, as a kid I was fantasizing more about the hot women on the show than I was about future technology.

Just an IBM Selectric keyboard typewriter. The wild thing about this show is that it's supposed to take place only a decade into the future. The problem is that the technology couldn't have advanced that quickly. Moonbases like that 10 years after we just set foot on it? At least the computer and communications tech was about where it would be in the early 1980's when tapes were still being used to store data. The moonbases aren't even possible 50 years later, let alone 10. And people aren't going to dress like that only 10 years ahead either. At least Roddenberry realized that space travel like on "Star Trek" was more likely centuries ahead, not decades. Although technology leapfrogged both it and TNG in a number of ways.

Back then, Selectrics were getting into various odd places. In 1975 the Univ. of New Orleans had a Selectric hooked up to one of the serial channels on their 36-bit mainframe. I got permission to use a typesetting program that could feed the Selectric and ended up doing my dissertation print-out on it. I believe (but can't prove, unfortunately) I was the first person on that campus to use a form of word processing for a dissertation. Took me about five nights to run the paper through the Selectric by hand. I recall buying two carbon ribbons and a huge pack of paper to make the original. Then had to make 10 collated copies and bring them to a monastery for bookbinding. I still have two copies.

And had no ventilation or working windows, visibility was awful and they were almost impossible to drive any distance. The custom car world is full of stuff like that. Strangely useless nonfunctional cars, i guess the future was more about style.

These women were naturally HOT, they didn't try and turn themselves into human Caricatures / or cartoons of themselves like the women of today. Sure they had the purple wigs on moon base alpha but that was to distinguish them from the Earth based women. I was in Elementary school back then but I remember this series well and get to enjoy it even today on Prime Video. I'll take these older series over the "crap" that hides behind special effects like today!

A great arrangement but this is an example of why actual instruments sound better than recreation of then with a digital replica. Sounds so tinny and lacking . Thanks for doing it as the organ part sounds fantastic .

Love that theme tune. But watching the video shows how badly they got the predictions of technology in 1980! Is that machine called a "tele typer"? Which I think is a fax machine before fax machines where invented.
