Way back, four and a half thousand years ago, when I was in the Army, I was seriously considering getting into fighting training. I began with boxing and realized that it's very easy to get hurt and be in pain. It happens. It's part of how this stuff goes. It's fun and you not only can get hurt, you *will.* I stopped because I started researching how damaged a lot of the champions were. Champions. Not people learning this stuff. Not people who didn't quite make it into the fight game. Learning of how frequent and horrible combat sports injuries are was pretty instrumental in getting me to stop.

@@8180634 I like Don Frye. Obviously he doesn't hold up now, but back in the day it's hard to disagree that he was a beast. My example of an MMA guy who shouldn't have fought his last five fights was Chuck Liddell. Muay Thai guys have the same deal. They look like physical fitness gods for about 3 to 5 years. They look like anime characters and comic book heroes. Then, I started learning that a lot of them had serious arthritis by the time they're thirty. Like, calcium in the joints, hobbling like an old man at thirty kinda arthritis. One of them was going to be crutching or wheelchairing around for the rest of his life because of a bad leg kick. Another guy got a spinal fracture and now his lower body is in perpetual pain. Also, these weren't champions, or rich. They were just dudes and they got permanently injured easy as can be.

@@GoodAvatar-ut5pq Similar experience here! I was training unbelievably intensely to be the best MMA fighter, but, recently, I was able to see things from a different point of view and realized that it didn't make sense to either give someone else brain damage(or worse) or give myself it. Absolutely love MMA and martial arts in general, but, there's something about competition like this that just doesn't make sense for me anymore either.

Idk who Velasquez is but as a boxer myself, all that hyper aggression while leaning forward literally the entire fight is a recipe for eating a check hook all day long. In fact almost every time he was dropped it was by a left check hook.. very amateur of Velasquez to never make adjustments and keep his chin over his front foot the entire fight I hope he switches trainers because they aren't telling him what he needs to hear.

dan is truly one of the worst refs in the business
I don't know shit, and have never fought professionally, but from a fan perspective... Much respect for the discipline shown to keep his composure and stick to the game plan. Once he saw he had him hurt, it's easy to try to swarm and end things quickly, which is where a lot of guys fuck up and get knocked out or severely hurt, either way shifting the momentum of the round/fight. He recognized that he was picking him apart, and stayed patient. Well done, Sir.

He reminds me of a fish you drag out of the water, then bonk it over and over but it just keeps flopping around but won’t die.

Yellow shorts is a beast he was landing hard until the end.
Adding UFC veteran to the title will definitely get the views, but I don't remember this guy from the UFC. And Dan needs to be more aggressive, damn, he's twice their weight, why is he letting the fighters dictate the action? He didn't say anything to Velazquez when he tried a double leg grab, but he yells at Herrea for hitting when he was breaking them. Then Velazquez was dropped in the 2nd and got back up, and Dan lets it go, and he gets dropped again...Come on, Dan...

You know what annoys the fuck out of me? When there's a really good exchange going on (like at 1:00) and they switch camera angle mid punch or between a pivotal combination. It happens so often! If you've ever seen a crowd UFC video they're often way more informative and interesting than the production. Either way, sick fight!
