The thing that pushes Aldo down the GOAT list imo is the fact that he lost to guys in his prime. People called him old and washed after he lost to Conor but he was only like 29 when that happened, and if he was so washed he wouldn't have gone down a division and beaten the top contenders there as well. The two losses against Max showed that the game had caught up to Aldo, not age. Much like it caught up to Max against Volk.

He has been fighting pro since 16. That's a 13 year career before losing to McGregor. In that time he took damage and had injuries. In regular years he was young and should have been in his prime, but in fight years he was ancient and honestly missed his physical prime after so many years fighting.

GSP is the goat IMO, but Jones had some tough ass fighters too. Rampage, Lyoto machida, Rashad evans, TRTor. Guss. You can definitely make a case. But this Gane fight will be a real qualifier for him.

Given the longevity and quality of fights of both fighters I think ONE is better off from MM than the UFC is from Askren. Would have loved to see MM vs Figgy and Moreno. Would have also loved to see him in 135 in MM vs Cruz 2, MM vs Yan, MM vs Sterling. From a fight spectacle standpoint its still a miss. Very spicy take tho.

Honestly the trade benefited both companies. Askren made masvidal into a ppv star, and One gained legitimacy from MM getting koed and coming back to win the title.

If the UFC never traded DJ, we never get the fastest KO in UFC history by Jorge. We never get DJ being a champ in another organization, fighting Rodtang along the way. We never get the BMF belt. We might have never got Cejudo as double champ, cause he would have fought DJ in a trilogy and could have possibly lost. We also may have never got DJ and Cejudo training together. I absolutely agree the trade was great. We also wouldn't have the DJ vs Moraes trilogy, which oh by the way, is One Championship's debut on US soil.

Bro won the belt off Al Iaquinta and then had 3 good wins and Gaethje is regarded as an outdated lightweight by most fans despite not having fought Khabib all that long ago, plus bro if you look at his record pre UFC his undefeated record is padded asf. I have no clue what kind of fighter you need to be to have a chance at beating Khabib. With GSP I know if you take a look at prime Johnny Hendricks you could come up with something. I could say the same about Jones, Aldo, Silva and any other past or current champion in the UFC. On that Khabib stands alone. Dude is a fucking myth.

Khabib (and you could argue DJ) are the only top 10 guys that are praised purely for their skills, and not the value of their wins.

For volkanovski to be considered the goated he has to beat the old guard, which he has. His contemporaries, which he has. Also the new guard which will hopefully be guys like Allen or Touporia. That's goat status. The the combination of three isn't always necessary but it will leave no doubt in anyone's mind. Also McGregor has 2 good wins that it just 2 and one was against a guy half his size.

I 100% agree about khabib, people always overrate him for some reason. However I heavily disagree about jones, he fought very good fighters, shogun and machida in their primes, sonnen and rampage arent great but good fighters at least. He won over glover, belfort, dc and gustafsson the second time

This is probably because I just absolutely love Stipe but I think he's the best HW, even above DC. Regardless of the big "ifs" and such, we all know that DC was going to beat Stipe if Stipe didn't switch up his strategy with one of the best adjustments in fight history. And Stipe did win the trilogy unanimously, which I think has to count for something. There are a ton of "ifs" and "maybes" with Stipe and DC, but those don't matter to me too much. That might be an unpopular opinion but that's just me being a Stipe fan and using what I know about UFC history.

finally a good khabib take, i feel like i am losing my mind when i say he has a padded record and only beat porier and connor and people clown my take. although i have to disagree on the jon jones take as he dominated a prime machida and shogun is a beast, rampage jackson was pretty sub-par and so was chael, but jones only fought top guys and beat them (marreta santos win was pretty on the nose but besides that he is the goat of mma imo)

He fought a guy making his pro debut when he was 13-0, come on. The only things I really kind of disagree on is with CCC, he fought TJ at 125 where TJ was pretty drained. I can’t give him credit for bantamweight goat for that one. And DC>Stipe does sound like copium. I think it’s a toss up, I mean, DC eye poked the shit out of him in their first fight and then Stipe was able to adjust his game plan in the second fight, DC couldn’t stop it. I think them in their primes would have been close but made for some incredible fights

The Jon Jones one doesn’t make sense cause he fought EVERYONE who had any relevance (skill wise or other) with the exception of Rumble and they were scheduled to fight.
