UFC 154: Anderson Silva Wants GSP Next, Not Jon Jones
Спорт
After his press conference prior to UFC 154, Anderson Silva discussed why he wants to fight Georges St-Pierre next instead of Jon Jones, what the possible catchweight and site would be for the superfight, and Stephan Bonnar's positive steroid test with MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani.

it warms my heart to see anderson silva's english has improved :D
the last bit had me crying dude haha..
I always look forward for Helwani's interviews with Silva cause he always says "thats it" after every sentence lol
You nailed it dude.
dude anderson is speaking some good english now i remember at the fight with sonnen he needed a translator im glad we get to hear it straight from him now makes it more authentic
I've never really seen many Anderson interviews, but he is very friendly and he is extremely composed.
When he asked him if May would be okay Anderson had no idea what he said haha
this guy just makes me smile at everything he says. hes a living legend.
he's improving a lot his english =) that's nice
I agree, so the GSP vs Spider fight should also take place at 170, but Spider clearly not interested at dropping to 170
Sure they may change their muscle mass slightly but overall the vast majority of weight change will be the amount of water weight that Silva cuts, meaning he just has to dehydrate a little more than usual whilst still maintaining the same body as in previous fights. Also seeing how effectively GSP reaches 170, it's fairly clear that's his optimum fighting weight, adding on extra muscle might just be a hindrance to him as it may negatively affect his cardio. I guess we'll wait and see though.
4:31 he needs to work for his coats... he likes to have nice leather coats like Seagal! lol
a true champion fights the best and doesnt care about money or a lose but to see if he is the best of all times!
ahaha I love the way Anderson dodges questions 4:14 Ariel : Who would win , Bisping or Belfort ? Anderson: I don't know. I go back for my home, I stay together my family
anderson got asked the same questions by 4 different interviews, damn man he's so nice
mma is not dying my man
anderson is pretty well spoken, personally if i had to pick only 1 i would prefer a gsp vs silva superfight rather than a jones vs silva superfight, they seem to match up better physically, where as jones has a huge advantage against silva with his reach and height and weight.
o ok im from Norway do not get the news and fights here how to look everything up.
My busdriver was Haitian but damn he reminds me of Anderson Silva so much so polite haha
I totally agree!
Ariel is so pumped to talk to Anderson, asking him all of these questions in a rapid-fire manner, and Silva is just like "It's whatever."
bisbing is so happy now!!
Why isn't Dominik Cruz vs Jose Aldo not mentioned for a super fight? I think those are more interesting fighters and been just as dominant in their weight classes.
You right just checked and I got mixed up on that 1 - its nearer 78" reach - but still a big advantage on gsp. Silva is naturaly about 215lbs, he is much nearer Jones in size. If he was to fight gsp at anything other than 170 maybe max 175 there wuold be just too many physical advantages for silva who has fought a few times at LHW.
not only that its really hard to get heavier then lighter like that at his age, could mess him up, hes only getting older.
Very true. A silva vs gsp fight is not even a tiny bit interesting,
Of course he does not want to oppose a technical fighter with longer reach
Well what he said bout his mates wanting Jones makes sense but it wont benefit Silva if he beats a smaller guy. He and Jones actually fight in a weight class that is meant for shorter guys, where GSP is the average height for his own weight class. Even Cesar Gracie says Silva is too tall for GSP. UFC needs to start annual non title open weight tourneys if they wanna start crossing weight classes.
Agree with you man.
Mannnn chael and bonnar both tested positive for steds when they fought silva, and he still kicked there asses :D
Yeah, I know what you are saying... But nobody talks about Weidman it seems. Like almost forgotten. But we'll see what the future brings.
Top 3 answers to any interview question from Anderson Silva:
its really interesting how GSP always deflects the Silva question and Silva deflects the Jones question
Yes! Much more than vs. Gsp
i love you anderson, super fight with george sounds awesome, and little nog or machida vs bones is awesome too :D
This will be an epic fight, maybe net we'll get to see Anderson VS Jones if he beats GSP or he could just anounce retirement after GSP
C'mon Silva, fans want you vs Jones alot more so stop calling out smaller fighters. Its like GSP calling out Ben Henderson lol
So much respect for him speaking English
Being active and on training camp is not the same thing, and Cutting weight is not only hydration as you seem to believe. they cut weight during the camp in form of strikt diet and alot of cardio training. when he is 215 his already been cutting weight to make sure that the water cut is as minimal as possible
The more interviews I see of Silva the more I like him I used to think he was a cocky douche but I think that's just his style he seems cool still a bigger GSP fan...... Love a guy that prides himself on just flat out outsmarting your opponent
More then likely that will be the case. But, you can't count out a well time strike, be it a high kick, a jab or what have you. Just for the record not a Silva fan by any means. Though I respect his talent.
Thanks, its a nice change coming across someone online who does just curse you out and start a war. Don't get me wrong Anderson is one of the best and will go down as the best UFC fighter of all time, but there's no denying he hasn't been consistently facing top competition. As for the Anderson vs GSP fight, I think Anderson would probably catch George with something on the feet, maybe GSP can get him down a couple times and control him, but I think eventually Anderson will hurt and finish him.
How about Jones vs Silva at a catchweight? He keeps bringing up Lyoto, Feijao, Lil Nog etc, just do it not for the belt so they still stay in positions
Anderson's vocabulary is very limited in English but the stuff that he can articulate is very wise. He knows what's up and I love it.
height isn't everything when comparing a fighters size. if its not an issue, why isn't Condit a middleweight? Anderson is broader, and longer as a fighter. also you have to think about what weight a fighter walks around at before they try and lose the weight for a fight. Anderson cuts down from at least 210, whereas Condit can only be around 190, maybe 195 when he's beginning to get his weight down, same with gsp. disregarding the size though, it'll still be a very competitive fight either way
honestly after the fight with bisping or vitor then i think weidman wiill get a chance. im ready for the fight tonight i like both gsp and condit but i think it will be very close im banking on a 5th round finish by either of them idk who is goin to win its a great fight.
Exactly, GSP is perfect proportions for his weight class, he shouldn't have to gain weight to fight Anderson. Anderson wants this easier fight-due to his size-with still a big name to get the big paycheck as opposed to Jones match up.
it honestly just makes sense... both gsp and silva have had their upbrining together over the years..jon jones is still rising up..the kid hasnt hit his prime yet.. let silva and gsp do their thing..IF GSP wins tonight
Anderson's English improved incredibly.
If this fight happens in Dallas, I'm there!! I live in Dallas!!!
Also Jones did say he wouldn't find Silva either.
I just realized half way in interview that a. silva did not use a translator and spoke quite good english.
Anderson said the same thing I have been saying for the longest if he whoops Jones ass (the heavyweight with skinny legs) which he more than likely would he would have to fight LHW contenders all of which are his friends, the names he listed he doesn't want to do that and cause major fallouts and friction with people who aided in him getting to that point. See what happened with Rashad and Jon a stable of two contenders in one weight class imagine silva and five friend contenders. Massive!
i hope the super fight will happen. it could add so much to their legacies. but, i dont wanna see gsp fight someone 20 lbs heavier than him on fight night. the catchweight should be as close to 170 as possible. GSP is not physically big at 170. he can probably cut to 155, while Anderson can fight at 205. it wont be fair if the catch weight is above 177.
@woohay definately agree! thats why he wants to fight gsp, but if gsp wins tonight i think he will beat silva bad!
Anderson and Gsp will make an estimated 15 - 20 million each for their super fight. Great pay days in MMA will lead to more talent coming over in hopes of reaching the pinnacle
Andersons english is surprisingly good when compared to GSP. Especially when Silva comes from Brazil while GSP grew up in Canada.
good one.
I'm worried this fight is going to end up being a Liddell v silva fight when both were past their dominance and then they booked the fight if they do it it needs to happen in next year or so
love The Spider but damn he makes me fall asleep when I watch his interviews.
Much respect to Silva and his english. way better then it use to be.
Something on the lens it looks like.
Much respect for Anderson learning english!
Silva looks like Samuel L Jackson with those glasses
Well Dana and believe it or not fans have been calling for the GSP/Silva fight long before Jones even became a contender.
BJ went up a class to fight GSP, Anderson has gone up to save a show, I'm sure GSP can just go in at 5 or 7 pounds more. Just gives him a slightly easier weight cut.
it would have to be a catchweight fight if it was to be between Silva - Jones (205+185) / 2
lol that's a bit of a stretch. All I know is that people have been wanting the GSP/Silva fight for more than 3 years now and Jones was only 3-1 (DQ against Hamill) at the time.
GSP vs Diaz -- Machida vs Silva -- Jones vs JDS ---- Tito Ortiz vs Dana White, in a boxing match. (You thought I forgot about that Dana? I didnt! And I still wanna see it!)... LET THE SUPERFIGHTS BEGIN!!!
That's not Anderson, that's Hipster Silva.
Badass alert
SHAEL NO RESPEC NOTHCING xD LOL xD
I think Bones and him would make a amazing fight
Sonnen tested positive too xD
Jones isnt heavy as people think , He always Tweets himself on the scale during fight week, he is usually around 215 before cutting. He probably starts training camp around 225-230.
Great to see him speaking English.
I'm an anderson fan. but, wouldn't gsp vs anderson be just like the first sonnen fight and isn't gsp is smart enough to not get caught in a leg triangle? this question's for everyone, and better arguments than "because anderson is the best" would be appreciated. my thoughts: gsp showed once again he takes opponents down whenever he wants and grinds away at them just like sonnen did to anderson. so what's going to stop gsp from doing that to anderson?
Well, I have to admit that this is the first time I have heard him handle a interview alone but he did "pretty good" here. I think good enough for people to understand what he means! there will always be idiots out there that will bag on him if things don't come out right, but personally I think he would be more marketable here in the states, I know that sounds American arrogant but it's not intended to be, but I'll say that he seemed less robotic this way good to see he has some personality
which show?
Silva's english just got awesome
doesnt have to be catchwheight, Silva has already fought a few times in LHW
Incorrect. There walk around wait is: Gsp:185 Silva: 210, Jones: 225-230.
Not to mention GSP is prolly suffering from ring rust from a 1.5 yr absence, he should be allowed to have a few in his own division to make sure hes the same GSP. So its safe to say Silva has no one in his weight class to pose a threat, Bones on the other hand is at his prime also bigger than his opponents so it makes more sense to test Silva against Bones. If this were Pride FC we woulda seen all of these fights already. Diaz is closer to Silvas height that fight makes more sense than GSP match
Silva vs Jones makes more sense in terms of size and potential hydrated weight in my opinion. GSP already has many guys near his weight capacity to handle, Diaz, Hendricks...etc Silva can do Jones in terms of size again, i dont know why Dana refuses to promote that and always obsessed with this, why not GSP Aldo then or Silva x Dos Santos. Because of the weight...thats why.
Top 3 answers to ANY interview question from Anderson Silva: 1. He's excited for the fight. 2. UFC big sport. 3. *shrugs and smiles*.
you just can't hate this guy...
I completely respect and like Silva. But I really don't want this fight to happen..... yet! . I think he needs 1 more fight to make sure he's removed all that ring rust. 1 fight won't do it. I'm looking forward to seeing 2 of the greatest and more respectable MMA fighters in the business square off for the fight of the century!!!!!!!
You can't compare the two fighters based on how they defeated the same opponents. Both had different game plans.
Interestingly enough this confirms a lot of what chael said lol ironically I like him more now he seems a cool guy does make you wonder why he has a translation 99% of the time.
size and height is the same?
that's exactly what i thought
Really? So the fight against Boetsch will not happen now?
He talks much better now
Which one, the LHWs or the MWs? I will say some of his MW opponents have been solid to top competition, like Rich Franklin, Chael, Hendo, Maia and some others, however he did have 2 or 3 which were joke fights. Patrick Cote comes to mind. As for the LHW, none of the 3 times he's fought there has he had top competition, hell he has refused to. Anderson may be a great fighter and everything, but he cherry picks his fights a lot of times (or tries to, but uncle dana sometimes doesn't allow it).
Champions should not be fighting each other. There are always contenders in every weight class
Fair enough, if I was him I'd rather stay as far away from Bones as I could too...
silva said maybe bisping next ... FUCK YES !!
It would be an unfair fight. Silva is much bigger in size than gsp. Even if they had a catch weight. After weigh in the fighters have a day to recover. Therefor they gain most of they're weight back if not all they're weight back. It would be like a 15 to 20 pound difference. It would be an unfair advantage for Silva. I don't think gsp should not take that fight.
It aint about the height. Theres even some LHW and HW in the 6'2 - 6'3 range. Im 6'3 and im 100% sure if I trained hard I would need to be in the 205 division and still cut a TON of weight. Anderson is just much bigger then GSP period. Even as a fan of both GSP and Silva I know it most likely wont even be close and Silva is gonna crush GSP. Jon Jones vs Silva is a much closer fight in terms of size, especially since Silva has made it pretty obvious that hes very comfortable going up to 205.
He didn't mention Weidman as a top contender! Ooooo!!!!!
