Guys, this movie 'Naya Daur' was an inspiration for Lagaan. You can find common factors between the two movies. Aamir's role is inspired from Dilip; Indian king in Lagaan is equivalent to the landlord; Captain Russell is equal to landlord's son. Yashpal Sharma's character is inspired from Ajit's role in Naya Daur.

@@anuparnoacharya5779 Nobody is degrading anything (although many modern filmmakers have definitely degraded the standards a lot). Inspiration is something that people have been taking in all art forms forever. Considering that Aamir himself has talked about Dilip Kumar and even Naya Daur specifically a lot, shows they are not ashamed of being inspired. Lagaan pretty much has the same template, a young hothead making an 'impossible' bet as a matter of survival, a conflict with a friend due to jealousy over a girl, the oppressor, the underdog story, the obstacles, the final 'win' despite sabotage etc. There were even articles written about the parallels, and how Naya Daur was a predecessor for Lagaan. How is that a 'bad thing' when the likes of Kashyap are constantly bragging about being inspired by Tarantino and Scorcese, even shooting certain scenes in the same way. I guess inspiration from the west is more acceptable. Comparing the two, and discussing the history and how one thing leads to another is not degrading. That's how cinema traditions, cinema critique and analysis works. Read a little about it if you want. If not, people being illiterate about cinema and consuming films mindlessly for entertainment is fine. But other people may like to discuss its rich history and tradition, and that's ok.

Salmankhan aamir khan you can consider them as superstar ..cause they both break records in last decade after each film with 100% success ratio. Akshay gave small hit ( not a single superstar level hits I mean blockbuster/record breaking). Else all are fake superstar. Superstar by decade:- 50&60's( Trio dilip kumar, raj kapor, dev anand) in late 60's rajesh khanna era started 70's rajesh khanna ( first and the real superstar) dharmendra amitabh bachchan 80's amitabh bachchan- dharmendra-vinod khanna 90's Govinda, shahrukh khan, salman khan 00"s shahrukh khan- aamir khan-hritik roshan 10's salman khan - aamir khan- Akshay Kumar.

You guys had earlier reacted to a dance off sequence from a black and white Tamil movie....she was one of the dancers in it along with Padmini (who also from the South industry find success in Bollywood although not on the scale that Vyjayanthimala did. About 2 weeks ago, you guys reacted to another Dilip-Vyjayanthimala classic 'Dil Tadap Tadap Ke' from the movie Madhumathi. Indian women were forced to cover their bodies, especially their legs, at all times back in the day. Not only were they not allowed to wear whatever they wanna wear but also had been brainwashed into thinking that everything they aren't allowed to wear is "ethically" wrong to wear. That's not the case today. Today's fashion is certainly far better than those times.

Today's films have lost their roots and heritage and are a culturally dislocated caricature of Hollywood. In fact it has been mentioned that some film makers and directors watch Hollywood films to 'study' and get 'inspired' Same with costumes and music. Also d gang financing happened which pushed out true art and got in pop street level mishmash nautanki

Not many people compliment the beauty and charisma that is Vyjayanthimala. Not only was she an absolute delight to watch as one of the best dancers to ever grace Bollywood, she was also such an expressive actress. She was one of the few actresses that didn't need a "hero" by their side to keep the audience hooked onto the screen. She single-handedly dominated so many scenes, movies and songs. Amrapali and Kathputli are some fine examples.

The entire song is praising her beauty, what are you on about? Also, there's far more to an actress (or a woman, for that matter) than her beautiful looks. I think, as a species, we have complemented women on their beauty enough and should focus on other aspects of their being.

@@abhinavbanerjee8797 hello my friend, I think you read the first sentence of my comment and perhaps forgot to read the rest. I may have started off with saying she isn't complimented "enough" for her beauty and charisma (which I meant for Vyjayanthimala in pop culture, not her character for whom this song was written), but I quickly shifted to praise her phenomenal dance skills (that you can quickly spot, because of her impeccable posture as a trained Bharatnatyam dancer) and how expressive she was as an actress. Also, how she didn't need to hold her ground with/without a hero because her presence dominated the screen regardless. I don't know what part made you think I reduced her to her looks, but I hope when you read this breakdown of my earlier comment, you get some clarity. Sending you good health and good vibes. 🌼

@@Sherry1696 You used words and phrases like 'beauty', 'charisma', 'delight to watch', 'expressive', 'keep the audience hooked', all of which more or less spoke of her looks and how pleasing she was to the eye. That's what I had an issue with. But then again, it's not really your fault coz actresses back in the day were simply not given much to do apart from ultimately pleasing the people with their looks and whatever limited number of skills that were deemed acceptable for women to hone at the time. Anyway, have a good day.

Vaijayantimala is a reknowed classical ( Bharat Natyam ) dancer who after leaving her movie career continued with her dance and founded a school of dance. She had also acted in Dilipkumar’s Devdas, ( as Chandramukhi) and won a supporting actress award. She refused it saying her character was the lead and not supporting. Her other notable role as a dancer was Amrapali. Can’t write about Dilipkumar here. Enough to say- every other actor after him picked up his style of acting, in a few cases even Big B and SRK. Btw, Devdas was made totally three times. K. L. Saigal, and Dilipkumar made their Devdas a legend before srk arrived on the scene. Each of these movies are classics in their own right.

Part of trio of Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and him --- the 3 super duper stars, contemporaries and good friends too ( off screen) , he was known as the tragedy king too as he did a lot of sad films -- till he almost had a breakdown and on doctor's advice started doing light hearted films. This song is folk song feel from the state of Punjab --- in terms of the style - of a couplet from me and reply from you, the musical instruments spl the beat and also the dancing style .

Do "Woh Kaun Thi", "Mere Saaya", "Bees Saal Baad", "Taj Mahal', " Madhumati", "Jis Desh Mein Ganga Beheti Hai", "Leader", "Ganga Jamuna", "Half Ticket", "Kashmir Ki Kali", "Sawan Ki Ghata". We have heard almost ALL the songs both new and classic. Also the different genres. But...We are just enjoying YOUR exposure and learning experience since you are from the US. We would also appreciate more give and take. Please expose Indians to the best music and the best films from your country and explain, at least in snippets. Hollywood and Netfix is popular here but an informal critical approach would be enjoyable.
