This a fantastic video - so thorough, easy to follow. Thank you! FYI in case it helps others - I tried this with a Sandisk 128GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive, and it works just fine as long as the videos are formatted properly using Handbrake. Of course, the UConnect system is buggy and from time to time it won't recognize any USB drive or won't mirror displays properly, but that's a UConnect issue, not anything to do with your method. Unplugging & replugging the USB usually fixes UConnect bugs. In one extreme case I had to go into Settings to "Reset Radio", which fixed an issue I was having with Uconnect not even displaying the "Rear Media" tab at all (Pacifica Hybrid 2021)

Recently bought a 2022 touring L and it took me a while to solve the puzzle about how to play videos via its rear USB port. Aside from what's already mentioned in Eric's channel, here are a list of other tips on this finicky system. 1. I have tested virous USBs, from 32Gb up to 256Gb, and type 2.0/3.0/3.1, as long as the format is FAT32, they should all play without any issue. Other source says the max supported is 2Tb on Fire TV. 2. Name the drive volume with a single word, no special characters such as underscore or space. (hyphen is ok). 3. Only one level folder structure is allowed. If you save your videos files within a subfolder, show or no show is a matter of luck. 4. Keep the folder names short and clean if you do use folders to organize your playlist. 5. The screen can only display a list of folders within its size. If your folder list outgrows the screen, anything hidden would be tagged as 'Empty'.

Great tips. I have a 2022 Limited and tried Eric's tips, but they did not work. Files were saved to a 32GB 2.0 drive. I did have subfolders, multiple word drive names and file names, etc. In this format, nothing worked for me. Trying your tips next.

Great video! Eric, did you experiment with any other file types or qualities before I waste my time attempting the same? I'm confused why we need to downgrade our file quality to 720p. It plays from the blu-ray player right next to it which we all know is 1080p or 4k quality. Apparently the disc system has the ability to encode to the lower quality on the fly? I will have to encode my entire library now lol. I've never downloaded anything less than 1080p because we usually play the content on larger screens. Thanks for the Handbrake software solution though that will be helpful.

Where is the best place to download movies to put on the stick?

I'm assuming the players are fairly standard in the way in which the drives should be formatted... say you just want to engage some MP3 files for playback on your thumbdrive. Format should be what? FAT32? exFAT? In some scenarios, we are running on Chrystler Voyager, I believe, maybe that also supports NTFS? Al though I think worst case exFAT for larger drives is probably the way to go? Any tips also for folder/file naming conventions? I found that to be an issue in one Toyota Tacoma, CD playback, for instance.

Yes, it matters; I've never been able to get an m4v to work. If you run it through handbrake and make sure it's an mp4 that's no more than 1280x720, it should work.

I don’t use it personally but I think the best I’ve seen is Newzbin. A friend of mine swears by it and he has a ton of content. From what I understand it’s a bit more complex to get started with than using torrents and there is a small cost associated with it but there’s much more content available and it will max out your download speeds when bringing down the videos.

Once the video is playing, did you push the “Listen in” button? That makes the sound play through the speakers.

Is the audio codec on the file AAC? If you stick the usb stick into a computer and play the file do you get audio?

Hi Eric, Just got my Pacifica Hybrid 2022 with UConnect Theater and tried to get video working from my usb drive (got one with 16GB and one with 128GB). I've followed your instruction but everytime the Uconnect tell me there is no files detected on the drive :| Is there something i miss ? My config : USB Drive (16GB) in FAT32 Video file made with Handbrake (mp4, AAC, no chapter, 1280x720p at 30 fps) Regards, Stephane

Sorry Stephanie. What you described seems correct. Mine is 2020 running UConnect 8.4. I believe the 2022 model may be using a new version of UConnect. Perhaps it works differently.

That is the same message that I received, then followed the other post below and that resolved the issue. No subfolders, single name drive name, single name file names, etc.

Sorry, I've never purchased movies from Apple or Google so I don't know.

I just hooked up a Roku and fire stick and use uconnect unlimited internet for 20 a month..
