Ya know, if you can hit a ball while running away from it, imagine what you can do if you stay in the batter's box and hit all those balls you miss because you ran away from them.

@@aces8174 Do I know it's called slapping? Really? You're trying to educate me on the various forms of playing softball? Oh, I do appreciate the input. It's still running away from the ball while trying to "slap" it into the ground and make playing it more difficult. The problem I've seen is this, it's effective less than 10% of the time at-bat. And if you coordinated enough to hit a ball while running away from it, imagine what you could do if you stayed in the batter's box, set yourself, and actually took a swing at the ball.

@@Solurius1 First of all, I never tried too educate you on softball, I was just confused by your statement. The whole point of slapping is to move a runner on a base. The slappers job is too make it difficult on the defense, not make it easier. You usually make it harder on the defense (mainly the infield) to try and pressure them. Even though there running, it's not away from the ball. I do understand what you mean, however thats why certain batters aren't slappers. You seem frustrated that they don't stay in the box, however thats the whole entire point. That's why certain people will hit and usually faster people will slap. I hope you have a good day and i'm sorry if you took my comment in a rude way, however I meant no disrespect.

@@aces8174 Thank you for that explanation. I do understand strategy, and I hope you'll excuse an OLD ball player and coach. We never had that kind of in-depth strategic players that were "specialists", back in those olden days, (1950's - 1970's when I played and 1970's through the 2000's when I was just coaching because I was too arthritic to play competitively anymore. I'll try to understand a little better the strategic benefit of attempting to slap the ball instead of giving it the old whack with the bat to knock it out of the park.
