Uchimata Bjj stance

Спорт

Uchimata against the bjj stance.
This is a two step uchi mata against an opposite-sided opponent who takes a low, defensive stance (aka a bjj stance)
Partner's stance: People stand like this is jiujitsu and wrestling to defend leg attacks. Their hips are further back and they are squatting.
Entry:
Always distinguish their lead leg in their stance
Today, we're looking at a RvL configuration. Get the lapel/collar configuration you want (either inside or outside)
Control the sleeve to prevent leg shots
Make your heel touch their inner thigh and stab the foot downwards as you pull your partner forwards, elevating and then stuffing their head downwards to finish the throw or takedown.
Cues to Remember:
This is a two step uchimata with a pace of one-two!
Pull your partner forwards and take their head downwards
Keep sleeve tension the entire timeMy youtube membership

This is normally how I end up having to do my Uchi Mata in BJJ. I desperately want to hit the more dynamic version where you sweep to the base leg but everyone I train with knows I want to do it so they immediately get low and put their butt way back or pull guard. I'm working on disguising it better 🤙 thank you for the great videos

When I ask other people they are only able to explain things in very vague terms like " low & defensive BJJ stance", Judo is too "upright" yada yada. However, you actually can break it down to accurate knowledge and reasons why- protect your hip, get inside control, how to unbalance first before attempting the throw. Your information is greatly helpful and your insights are valuable. Thank you, Mr. Higashi. I rarely see someone like you that can be both a competent fighter and an amazing coach.

I am tall and use uchi mata in judo and mma it's my favourite technique try to understand ukes balance/center off gravity using your arms to create off balancing (lapel/deep over hook) to allow your hips legs and body to do the rest of the work. Often times to execute the perfect technique all of these things will work together in conjuction. Always get under your partners centre of gravity after breaking his posture you will finish many techniques like this. Hope this can help you out abit.

The key as my BJJ coach says (for the ground but still can steal his phrase) is get the oponent between movements, I grip over the back but the most important thing for me is to use the momentum, I guess is called , when my mate is entering to the single, that way it will feel almost effortless, if you stop the guy and then enter uchimata will feel way harder. I have more legs than torso and prefer leg uchimata with some angle with shorter guys or guys that are lower, the japanese way attacking deep doesn´t work for me very well.

(if i try to be square it feels super uncomfortable on my arm on the lapel and my lower back, the pressure feels like im overturning my body to be square if that makes sense cause my arm is still holding their lapel and blocking me from turning a full 180). thank you for helping!

  • @isa100kg

Hey! Uchi mata will be a little bit different for everyone. For this uchi mata, you don't need to square up with the partner. Usually, you'll feel off balance if there is not enough pull, or kuzuchi. When you practice this, really focus on the head and sleeve control. A good cue is to always get your partner's head below yours before you finish the throw.
