Uber files whistleblower comes forward: 'We sold people a lie'
In an exclusive interview with the Guardian, the former Uber lobbyist Mark MacGann speaks publicly for the first time to reveal the story behind the Uber files - a leak of more than 124,000 documents that show how the US tech giant flouted laws, secretly lobbied governments and exploited violence against drivers.

I love the Uber statement, saying 1) they've moved from an era of confrontation. That 2) driver earnings are at/near all time highs. And that 3) in the UK Uber drivers get workers' rights. 1) is because they have finished using the violence to get their feet in the doors. 2) is just economic prestidigitation (total earnings per driver (or driver hour) adjusted for inflation would be a reasonable looking measure. Just piling up all the fees and ignoring inflation is not honest. 3) This is true, but only because they were obliged to by UK law, or else quit operations altogether. And only in the UK. Big deal.

But if we just tarnish all corporations with the same brush I think it actually helps organisations with the loosest governance get away with more delinquency under the guise of ‘everybody behaves this way’ and ‘this is normal’. Black cab drivers in London had most of the market used to make a fortune. You hear stories of 100k a year salaries, although some argue it was usually 50k. Regardless a black cab cost twice as much as a mini cab or an uber. So you can see why the Public were keen on uber. I could not afford a black cab unless an absolute emergency.
Mark's confession and admittance of wrong doing is commendable. One importan question that should have been asked is, *did politicians around the world, accepted bribes (money, other rewards, real estate etc)* for their role in 'looking the other way' while Uber was operating outside the law in their respective countries? If yes, these corrupt criminals should be exposed!
Just to add that the amount of bonus UBER paid to their executives is also something which further explanation is needed given the profitability of the business!
I’ve known this for years. They invaded Wisconsin and drove many taxi companies out of business using theses tactics. These actions impacted immigrants most of all.
I can't say anything about other countries, but in the US, where Uber started, taxi services were corrupt local monopolies that gave terrible service at high prices, and that was true for me in New York, Michigan, Illinois, and Massachusetts. Dispatcher regularly lied to you about how long it would take to get a cab, and cab driver didn't care if someone else jumped into the cab you waited an hour for. There were laws in the US that needed to be destroyed, because they were harmful to the public, while benefiting a small business interest.

Former CEO of Uber, Mark, may act as a whistleblower for a number of reasons, or for his own interest. However, we can't deny that he made sacrifices and took risks to inform the public about unlawful and unethical conduct during the scandal. As a result, Uber was investigated and we may have opportunities to correct these practices in the future. the behaviour benefits the majority of our society in the long run. If we have no encouragement/motivation to stand up, we can at least show our respect to those who did.

cheaper price, that`s the deal.
