Good to see people appreciating the Edge's understated but exciting guitar playing. Much as I am a Hendrix/Page fan, I've always loved the way that the Edge crafts amazing soundscapes over the solid bass and drums of U2.

You are absolutely right. I am also mostly fan of the blues-based guitarplayers, but I really like The Edge, since he really invented his own original style, and that is what very few people can do.
Extremely simple his style and approaching. However The Edge is deeply sonic and original, it's impossible denying it.
That key change from 3.41 on is sublime. Thanks for sharing
Yes I got into this U2 when I was a GI in Germany it really went with a vibe the girls the beer thank you for this it gave me the chills Goosebumps
Great job---gorgeous Strat!
Hi, HappyStrat! Great cover of a great song! 33 years after we yet admire the Edge's genius and effectiveness... So is your cover: brief and effective.

If I remember correctly, this one is in standard tuning, which is 1/2 step higher than the original. The original U2 recording is in Eb, but the bacing track in that tuning that I found was way too fast. Then I found this one, which was in correct speed, but 1/2 step higher, in standard tuning. I decided to go for this one.
I think this is great
@HappyStrat24

+Helen Howard Thank you!
Yes, that is pretty much correct. Some songs are even played with the guitar tuned the whole step down (Pride on the recent tours if I am not mistaken). New Year's Day is half step down even on the original recording and I don't think it as ever been played in normal tuning. But here it is because of the backing track (I have found out how to change the pitch of the BT since, but I didn't know it when I recorded this song)
This boy can play. Great sound!! Love it. Keep jammin!!

Hi Luca, thanks a lot. If someone tells me that he/she has learnt something from me, that is the biggest compliment. I appreciate it. As for the RP80, I think it is a great value for the money. Of course, it is a cheap multi-effedct, so the sound is not as if you have a 1000$ amp and pedal effects, but the sound is not bad at all and it is very versatile, you can get any sound you want, or get close at least....to be continued
Hi, I used the bridge pickup with the tone knob in positon 7 fon this one. But it really depends on your guitar amp, effects... Here I used the Digitech RP80 multieffct, which makes the sound sort of muddy, so I used the bridge pickup to make it clearer and brighter. When I play through my Vox amp, I use either the combination of the bridge and middle pickup or just the middle. The Edge plays it on Les Paul with humbuckers...
You do the best U2 covers on all of KZread , show your face edge

Great playing and subtleties are impressive. So much of Edge's playing texture and tone vs technique, its there in your playing as well. Can you share backing track info as well?

良い!
The edge and the guitar player from bauhaus are very similar and I think they inspired each other’s playing
just one question what disto do u use to get EDGE's sound?? I'll appreciate someone reply me ..t-you bye =)
класс!
... Of course, there are other multieffects too, I can not compare them, but with DigiTech you also get the Whammy effect, that other multieffects don't have. I use it on the Even Better Than The Real Thing intro for instance. Just be sure you get one with the expression pedal (the RP50 doesn't have it for instance), it is usefull. I have better gear now, but I still keep the RP80, it is very good for practicing.
Hi, the thing is that there are so many songs that I would like to learn, that I doubt that I will have time for New Gold Dream in the near future.
👍👍❤🥰
Hi HappyStrat!I'm a your Big Fan!I've learned a lot from you! I was interesting about your Rp80. Can you give me your opinion about it?I was looking for a multi effect pedal not to much expensive. Thx for asking!
Hey, I was wondering if Digitech pedals are good? I'm wondering if you can switch between different effects easily while playing?
where can i find this standard tuning backing track?
Hi, nice playing. Where did you get the backing track tho? Thanks.
What is the amplifier and effects?
Can you play bass guiter? I want to watch that you play bass guiter New years day.
What did you tune your guitar to?
Est ce que l'on peu connaître la marque et des effets et reglages
You pass the RP80 CONFIGURATION In order to do in mine went well TE BROTHER THE TUTORIAL
manda bem wlw
Usually in every U2 song performed live, all the strings are tuned down a half step
i can recomend Audacity software which can change tempo and speed in 3 seconds. I use it to change backingtracks all the time ;)
Even, if there is no guitar...could you please do NEW GOLD DREAM
Hi, I used this one: edgewannabe(dot)net/recarchive/edibt(dot)html If you play along that one, you have your guitar in standard tuning, which is half step higher than the original recording. If I remember correctly, there is a BT at guitarbackingtrack(dot)com, which has the right pitch (half step down), but it is waaaaay too fast.
How do you manage to strum and make the guitar sound as if muting? When I strum everything seems to explode. Do you use a soft plectrum?

Hi Edge ! Great ! What do you use as effect pedals please ?

Well, there is always a lot to improve.
You have done an excellent job with this cover, however I think Marcus's version is closer to the real deal !!
Did you raise the pitch of the song to avoid copyright issues?
@HappyStrat24
8 жыл бұрын
No, the backing track was tis way already and I didn't now how to shift the pitch back then. I never thought about the fact that it probably helps with the copyright - not really problem with U2 covers, but my Beatles covers got completely blocked because of copyright, which I find really stupid.

You got your tone knob down 😅
@HappyStrat24
5 жыл бұрын
The tone knob is in the position 7 to cut off the trebble. Why would anyone find that funny?
@dirtstyles
5 жыл бұрын
@@HappyStrat24 it sounds like it needs more treble to add brightness, just saying
@HappyStrat24
5 жыл бұрын
@@dirtstyles Well, the tone would generally need an improvement. One thing is, that this was recorded with a cheap digital multieffect (Digitech RP80), I didn't use any amp. Of course, the sound is somehow digital. But even with my later covers, that I have been recording with my VOX amp, I always have this feeling that the sound is different than what I hear while playing the song. Well, it is not that easy to make a good recording, but it sure is fun :-)
Needs more treble in the tone. Too dull

Post a vid on how to adjust
Play it without the backing track, or have it be much lower in the mix. We're here to see/hear you play. We listen to U2 if we want the full song experience.
+ou-
you should really save for a good amp. Your playing is great but the tone isn't that great, it feels the opposite of liveliness. But that's just my opinion. I think you should save for an ac15 or ac30 for that great mid range edge sound and get a good delay pedal with it
@HappyStrat24
8 жыл бұрын
+Flynn Hendry Ha ha, you are absolutely right! This is an old cover, I have actually bought an AC15 a couple of years ago. If you check my newer covers, you will hopefully notice an improvement, at least in the sound :-)
