Their best period. Achtung Baby, Zooropa and Pop. Creative, bold, uncompromising, innovative. Pop was highly misunderstood by the critics. Still a pearl in their catalogue.

@Gerardo Aguilar Avila I can agree and disagree, Achtung is literally my favourite album of U2, although this particular song (which I hear for the first time as I'm writing this comment) seems quite awesome. Like, besides from that I'd say it's hard to find a bad U2 album, and I couldn't really say that an entire era of theirs is my favourite, my top three would probably be Achtung, ATYCLB and SoE.

@@spac18he said single ! Singles get tv and radio play even if the album is shite. This was also a single . The album is far from crap. I’m someone who couldn’t never stand Bono . Not the best album of 1997 or as good as some of their earlier albums, but it’s alright . The songs sounded great during the live show, especially this song
They shut down the highways in Kansas City to film this video. Everyone lost their shit. It was awesome.

Never understood the dislike for Pop it's such a great album. The only problem was some of the songs didn't corlate well live due to the electronica sound. 🎵

I actually think the opposite. I love the songs but am not a fan of the studio versions much at all. The live ones though I listen to all the time. They feel unfinished on the album itself.
This is the best song on POP. They should be still playing this one live...

I'll never get over the fact U2 didn't release "The Playboy Mansion" as a single, nor even choose to play it in concert haha. The wonderful melodic guitar, the laidback chill melody, Bono's vocals, ugh, most bands would kill for a song half as good. Loving all these Pop videos however.

"The Playboy Mansion" is a brilliant song, that captures U2 at one of his most provocative moments, could've be a great single and a great song live as well. U2Pop 🦄🦄🦄.

Come on lads, all we want is a remastered reissue of 'Pop'. The B-Sides & remixes are worth it alone!
I love this album so damn much. My favorite album from them and one of the best albums ever IMO. So glad to see other commenters praising it and realizing how underrated it was, especially back in the day! I think it gets a bit more credit now. So ahead of it's time... and it aged so well!
very much underrated album. The album who made me part of the U2 community for life, special mention to Gone and Mofo.
This was filmed in front of my work in Kansas City, Missouri. The brass were none too happy that many at the bank where I still work were watching them shooting. A few hundred to be exact. The thin, elongated windows over Adam's right shoulder at 3:34 is where we stood watching in our old IT room. Our crew left at 4:15 PM and the band was about 15 feet away from us...AND the Tank! We stared at the scene for a couple of minutes, when an assistant ran over and told me and a co-worker that we couldn't interfere with the shoot and to move on. "The balls on this guy!", I thought. You guys are on MY turf! I then told the guy that in about 15 minutes, about half of the bank's employees would be coming out those doors, as our parking at the time was a block or two in either direction. His eyes opened wide and he sprinted away, giving my news to someone via his monster walkie-talkie. They had been setting up and filming for a few hours at that point. It was cool to see the whole band and a tank outside my building, on an otherwise uneventful work day. I will say though, that the video is pretty awful, despite the cameo of the great William S Burrows, who died the same year he appeared in this video. It was a memorable day at work, though. You don't see global Rock Stars filming a video outside your door too often!
That intro is just awesome. Just ahead of its time with this one.
Loving these pop remastered videos they are exactly what the album needs to get rediscovered for new generation or for those that where critical of it on release. I absolutely loved this album and it was on this tour I saw them in the rain at Leeds 1997 and it was simply fantastic.

That's what I'm getting at, Wilbur. In retrospect, the live performances of the Popmart Tour shadow the lackluster reception of the studio album. Reduce it to trivial.

'Pop' is an underrated album.
This sounded great live on the popmart tour. Love it.

Last truly great thing U2 ever did was Pop and Popmart tour, they've been good since but they were truly the best band on each back then, still sounds more modern than their safe music since.

@@hervemauri6457 I understand that you cannot please everyone, however I truly believe that one of U2's strong suits is that the music of U2 is enjoyed by an international music listening audience (music listening audiences across Europe, the United States and other parts of the world/globe etc.

Last GREAT U2 album! Bold, imaginative, well rounded, just fantastic. After POP U2 went into overoveroveroveoveroruducing and with less courage and boldness.

Love the album Pop - I ran out and bought it on cassette when it came out in the 90s (my 20s) it’s way ahead of its time and will be appreciated by the young today.

Love when the band get weird and Larry permits it.
I remember being blown away by how they got the video to look so old. Now I'm guessing that the exterior scenes were filmed on Super 8 film. The shots from the inside the car are a bit too sharp so I'm thinking those were filmed digitally with some kind of filter applied to make them match the Super 8 shots.

In the last shot the old man is William Burroughs the famous American writer of the Beat Generation.
Queued to buy this album when it was released. That's the last time I ever did (or rather had to do) that. It was worth it just for this one.
Very under appreciated tune from the very under appreciated album pop!
I've always like the weirdness of this video, probably moreso than the song itself. It's a package deal.
I work down in the West bottoms when this video was made when they got done the model and the crew pulled up to the little cafe I worked at called woodweather's Cafe in the red convertible it was one of the coolest experience ever and every single one was extremely nice
When Pop got released U2 was one of few Best bands in the World. After All that you cant leave behind U2 fell out of 10th place or even 20th
