US made the country dead poor while it was already a prospering nation in spanish times, US abandoned Philippines bec it was too costly for them to maintain the archipelago thus they established a commonwealth nation to gradually separate ways, they don't have any plans to absorb the country in statehood bec we're too brown and overpopulated, they don't want filipinos freely moving to different states while they are having racial issues with african americans.
