Doomed USS Soldier: "Guns... Aren't stopping it! Somebody stop this asshat!" "Somebody get some grenades and rocket launchers!"

Ok so one of my favorite differences is Hunk’s line that he says to the soldier. In the original, Hunk tells the soldier to stop shooting because he might hit the sample. In the remake, he yells at the soldier because they were ordered to take Birkin back alive. In the original, Hunk is an emotionless machine. In the remake, Hunk is a cold, heartless killer, but you get to see the briefest bit of emotion slip through. I feel like that makes Hunk more believable, and honestly even more terrifying.

The reason why he yelled at Ghost (Martinez) for killing Birkin, because they were ordered to bring Birkin in alive along with the G-Virus. Hunk values the mission over everything else, so this truly makes him an emotionless machine.

I'll be honest. I love both versions of this scene. The original is a classic cutscene and the music and everything is perfection. I also love how the remake changed it up with a POV found footage style and with that the various tapes you find from the USS members. All in all both are excellent

Before the attack, remake Birkin was all... "Excellent... My beautiful G-virus. I won't let anyone steal you from me..."

Because when you hold two things next to each other, it's perfectly normal and expected for people to have their personal favorite and prefer one over the other. It's not a big deal. No need to whine about it.

I prefer the Original. The background music really adds to how desperate William Birkin is. Epic!!

While the Original is cinematic and full of suspense, the Remake has a sense of realism to it. Both are awesome in their own right.

Original: A stone-cold scientist is not about to be told he's outlived his usefulness, and ready to take his life's work to new heights, but Corporate has sent their MTF team to take it from him, killing him without much fanfare. REmake: An all too passionate and crazed scientist is desperately attempting to jump ship with his life's work on his hip, but he's cornered by Corporate's Alpha Team to bring him and the virus back; they still have plans for him. But he's not the only one with shaky nerves in that room, and one Trooper guns him down, screwing up the opperation and forcing them to leave with only half their mission Objective. But G is HIS creation, and he takes it into himself, gaining the power to rip his stolen property, and several organs, out of Alpha Team's possession... but that's all he gets, as what was his creation plunges him into a hellish regret that only spirals deeper as his humanity sinks into the growing aberrant mass...

Great interpretation. I loved how you can clearly see that Birkin is suffering tremendously as he gradually transforms in the Remake. It makes a part of the player actually feel bad for him. He's in complete agony and is NOT enjoying himself - possibly even regretting his decision to inject the virus into himself. The complete opposite sort of vibe you get from the original game.

The funny thing is, thanks to the RE 1 Remake, Birkin is technically no longer the creator of the G-Virus. Rather it was a penicillin-esque lucky accident that came of infecting Lisa Trevor with the Nemesis parasite. All Birkin did was notice the change in Lisa's body chemistry after she managed to assimilate Nemesis into herself and figure out how to isolate and refine the end result into the G-Virus. If he has any claim to G at all it's for making it into a more stable and viable product. I only bring it up because of what it adds to the context of his character. His life's work potentially comes from standing on the shoulders of others who didn't or couldn't see its potential, his obession with it gains a layer of blind denial as to how much of the credit he really deserves, and his demise gains an extra layer of dark irony in potentially being his test subject's final revenge for what was done to her. Feel free to comment or critique.

@@ZKP314 Obviously, not every agent there had HUNK’s experience and titanium nerves. Granted, if he had shot out Birkin’s legs instead of firing at the gun (which was right in front of his torso), they could have brought Birkin back alive, although that part would be further complicated given he couldn’t walk and would need immediate medical attention so he didn’t bleed out.

For me, two Versions aré great!!!!

So we aren't going to talk about William munching on those capsules?

I can imagine the silence during the Helicopter ride out being intense.

the original scene will always be my favorite (I was a kid in the 90s) but the remake is fantastic "G is my creation!" that was hard hitting

Fun Fact: the voice actor for William Birkin in the RE2 Remake also voiced Frank West, the protagonist of the Dead Rising franchise.

The original shooting made more sense. Birkin had the pistol pointed on two guys as soon as they walked in. In Remake he pulls it out when he's cornered by 4 guys.

The original looks great for a game made in 98

I prefer the remake, it has better voice acting, emotions of the characters, and a better environment/tone.

The original had a more realistic tense situation. William knew USS were coming and already had his gun on his hand. What sparked the shooting was the noise of that object falling on the ground. Always liked that detail. For some reason the Remakes always try to make things more cliché and over the top. Instead of a smart calculist scientist that tried to plan ahead and only got shot because of an indirect cause they wanted to make the whole crazy impulsive guy thing by making him stupidly grab his weapon while already at gunpoint.

There's honestly no need to compare, the original had a cinematic feel with the classic video game look which has a style that is always appreciated and the remake a more realistic weighty feeling with the new voice acting and visuals. All in all Imo the best way to enjoy the remake is to experience the original first not because either are bad, but just to see other ways the story can be told. Ps. Original VA William is good but TJ Rotolo is awesome

To me the original is better birkin is ready and not phased his obessed with his work and come out calm and ready while hunk and his team ain't even there to kill or get him but just to grab the samples but a accident happen but instead of hunk freaking out. he tells him" hold up you might hit the samples " giving this vibe they don't care about nothing other then the mission and casualties are things that happen like spillin soda also i like how annette was more caring about her husband and daughter in the original but in remake they made her a outright bitch and only cared about her work making her careless they gave her the original birkin personality but more unlikable

This, overall all the little elements present in his story add up to present him as a tragic character in the original vs the remake, where he seems more mentally unstable. in the original all in all the Birkin's are still a loving family which makes his demise hurt more because of the people he leaves behind, but in the remake Annette berates him while he's dying? I mean WTF, it sure makes one feel pity for him but it puts Annette in a bad light. Also in the original it's implied he took the virus in a desperate attempt to survive his wounds with no other options left and with the horrible consquence of his transformation, a thing he suffers throughout the game (where the music represents that mental fight for his humanity inside him during his transformations); in the remake he's ok with that transformation and actually wanted it just for revenge, so it seems less sad because that's what he wanted.

I think the original Birkin is much better than the remake. I also like the original cutscene better than the remake. The sound, the voice, the animation, everything was perfect. The original Birkin sounds much more devilish than the remake Birkin.

Original is more cinematic, suspenseful and the soundtrack is really epic. The Remake one somehow feels lacking. Clarification: I thinks both games in general terms are equally awesome, each version has certain stuff that the other one lacks.

i was thinking, if one of the umbrella mercs would have double tapped on birkin they could have prevented the breakout i think...unless the t-virus was already leaked from the mansion incident bc of infected wildlife or whatever.

I really hate to be that guy, but Hunk and his team were the official Umbrella soldiers. They work for Umbrella through and through. The Mercs would be UBCS (like Carlos). Guys who just pick up work from Umbrella when ever they need a paycheck and most likely work another job. Sorry again

This could haff been preffented if Villiam Birkin got that promotion he vanted. In my fanfics, Villiam Birkin gets a second chance at redemption, and vee are now great friends!

Could be many reasons. Maybe G1's eyes were not developed yet when he attacked the USS. Also, don't forget that G1 fell over the rail and gave Leon and Claire a chance to escape from him.

Probably because Birkin was fighting the virus and restraining himself. If you listen carefully you can hear him begging Leon/Claire to help or kill him.

That trooper who shot Willian was smart enough to not justify himself to HUNK.

I prefer the older it shows more, of operation Nestwrecker, and seems more realistic in a sence. However I like the remake just the same, it kinda changed it but wish it showed the same amount of the operation. Like the original version.

Since birkin already drew his gun in the original, the mercenaries didn't fire until they were, supposedly, fired upon. In the remake they fire immediately on seeing birkin reach into his coat, before they can identify a weapon or a threat.

This is the perfect example of contrast between the remake and the original, The intro, Tyrant dropping from the helicopter, this scene, It's like the first Terminator movies. Kamiya's direction was always more bombastic and expressive, while never turning into complete action. Too bad the remake ditched it completely.

And the way this cutscene is cut into those tapes (in case anyone forgot about RE7) without any music, not a fan. Probably to keep the realistic direction the remake has, which doesn't make sense giving the fact Annette gives you the last piece of the story by telling you what happened, just like in the original... They ditched the introduction of Mr.X, they ditched the helicopter crash scene, they wasted Ben potential, same with Ada, same with Irons.

The remake is better, the voices feel much better. Can anyone help me with something i quite don't understand regarding the g virus. What were the g's we encounter in the sewers? Were they normal people that got injected the g virus? If it was that why were the like that and William Birkin turned like he did?

The G's were likely animals that were infected in the sewers, like the alligator monster, as for why they look different, maybe the sewer water blended with the g virus made it more of an unstable solution

The original may have suitable background music to build up suspense, but the remake is a lot more lifelike in terms of voice acting.

The Reboot was okay.. I prefer the original RE2 from 1998. Capcom could've made the game as great as RE1 Remake but they rushed it. Only thing impressive about RE2 Reboot is the graphics, Soundtrack and everything else is better in the original.

Wouldn’t call it rushed, they announced it and then there was lik 4 years of dead silence. Yeah there’s some asset flipping from RE7 but I think it was ok. The Second Run mode was certainly a rushed part of the game. The RE3? Less we talk about that, the better

Remake trying hard to be realistic but fails miserably: >They make an overly complicated breach for no apparent reason or to ID random test tubes which is more dumb. >They don't just grab birkin as soon as they breach. >Birkin clearly and slowly goes for a gun and then draws down and no one just walks up and riflebutts him in the face or something the whole time instead they stand there with guns pointed at him with no intention of using them since hunk gets angry at martinez...so again why not just grab him at any time? did hunk just want to test out their body armor? Why does umbrella even want birkin alive in the first place? Use him as a slave scientist with access to bioweapons? Couldn't possibly go wrong lol. The original has a certain mild japanese cheesiness to it but it is far superior given the thematic intent of either. Also why would you try to go for a realistic style when the games are full of so much retardation.

It did feel off to me, like they were trying hard to be "tactical". Didn't notice it until I saw your comment... they _should_ have immediately tackled him when they had the initiative - if he had a bomb with a remote detonator set up to blow up the g-virus samples that would have justified not just immediately grabbing him.

So that's how William became the G monster. Before his injection, he was confronted by HUNK team, who came to collect the G virus, but he refused. When he draws a gun, HUNK member, Martinez, shot him. HUNK team collected the G virus, Annette came here and said to hold on. William injected the G virus on himself and his wounds are healed, and he got after them. While he's on pursuit, his right arm has grown and got muscular with eye. HUNK tried to shoot him, but it didn't stopped, William grabbed the sample and eaten and killed the HUNK. Then he encountered Leon, he grabbed the metal pipe. After defeated by Leon, he jumped and fell. He was looking for Sherry to make embryo infant. In the orphanage, when Sherry was captured by Chief Irons, William appeared and putted the G embryo on him. Then, when Claire and Sherry chased by Tyrant in elevator, William impaled him and killed him and attacked Claire and Sherry. In the NEST lab, he encountered Leon, but was hit by acid by Annette. Annette told him about how William became the G monster.
