After flying FPV as long as I have, I can set up a better way to take off and land than that. has to be had on the system.

better landing system, easy, like you say, but they are probably flying at a very high gross weight, so cannot slow down much at all for landing, and takeoff run would be very long. very small flight envelope, really. that's why the launcher, and crane wire retrieval. it would be hard on one of our models, but these things are very heavy. and very solid built. i do agree, that it would be nice if they were larger, and could have a larger flight envelope. it still a great looking aero design, the interator, isn't it? you might like the rutan firebird? it's optionally piloted, and takes off and lands in a more civilized way. my gemini prototype design has landing gear tricycle, and fills a similar role to the scan eagle,a nd integrator, although is not all weather, etc. but has much lower operating costs. like fpv style, with military style endurance and performance. i guess it's easier for boxing to spend 300,000 dls than 30 dls. or so i'm told by a former flight test director for boeing. oh well...

FPVREVIEWS I guess it also would be portability, so they could take off in an area without runway and also land there without the need of any runway. For a large and havy drone like this the best way would be like they are doing in this video. Just my guess at least :)

haha no. i don't think you realise how big and heavy these machines are compared to your foam airplanes. Also keep in mind that this landing system is designed to work without an actual runway. Other RQ series UAVs land on runways with cables.

this platform was designed to take off and land from the deck of very small ships there for you get a unique recovery system. landing a 140 pound aircraft on deck 20x20 is not very easy on wheels, in high wind, with swells.

damn hardstop why no (light)UAV in the world takeoff/land by wheels ?(in modern countrys) evry toys remote control plane got fair performances it will make far less support needs obivously it will reduce the load but the price too that will can be spent in more UAV's

You get better performance without wheels due to less weight / drag. Wheels are also useless if you're trying to get the UAV onto a ship.

It does, but not for the second part; in that case you either need to vertically land, or land on a carrier (using wheels).
