No such thing as a HALO jumper! HALO/HAHOis a type of entry method used by special forces! E.i. SASR, seals, Delta, green berets paras ect. So he would've been a SF unit.

@@richardmillward8200 My brother died peacefully in his sleep at seventy something years old. His freakin wife and no one else even told me that my brother was gone. I had not heard from him in a while so I Googled his name to see if I could find out anything and what came up was his obituary. What a shock that was! That is a hell of a way to find out your brother had died. I think my brother must have left me something in his will and his wife did not tell me my brother had died so I did not get whatever my brother had left me in his will. I did not even get to go to his funeral in North Carolina. I live in Texas. I am the only one left in my family and I live alone at 77 years old.

+dieing REPUBLIC talk to your recruiter and see if any slots are avaliable. delta is not a job you just sign up for. they offer it to you. and average age of delta soldier is 35. best way for Rangers is using the op 40 contract. special forces (green berets) i believe its job title is 18x? cant remember but those guys are tough as nails. hope if you do it that you gove it your absolute all. those contracts are very hard to get since theyre downsizing the military and are becoming more selective on how joins what. but mentally, prepare yourself. thats if you were being serious.

I'm Canadian but from what I understand about Green Berets makes them one of the most unsung, awesomely scary soldiers in the U.S. military. They can pretty well operate and use any type of machinery and weaponry be it land, sea or air and they specialize in forming militias or guerrilla units from local populations. Major respect to these soldiers.

Only 80 pass the education, today it is about 20 men yearly depending it needs International combat experience in 18 months before entering this special unit. When you get to this point as this Green Barrets it is a very special feeling you are in a family you die for! To be Brothers in Arms are so spiritual so no one will understand if you have not experienced it

I wish I had the opportunity to hear this from him personally, but am glad that his story lives on now that I can fully appreciate what he, and other POW/MIA service members went through.

There's "service" to one's country by enlisting or in my case as a commissioned officer where one may actually get deployed to do something real, surviving it, returning home only to leave "service". I guess we call those types veterans or even combat veterans. But to do this kind of work is definitely something different, something truly special. These cats and those like them in other services are THE BEST men and women we have. The true 1%. Hats off to all of you, wherever you are. I have served, but you exemplify service. Seeing this makes me sleep well. Thank you all!

I agree. Im former 25 ID and think SF are like Ph.d's who can kill you. Plus they are almost exclusive NCO's which gives them a lot of years in green to develop. Unlike the SEALS, a soldier cannot go directly into SF. You have to have served already before you can get in.

No it's nothing like regular sky diving. They don't jump with 60 kilograms of equipment that is extraordinarily heavy difficult to even walk with in the plane and unstabilises your flight, and the glasses fog up because you sweat and oxygen mask on gives a very clostraphobic feeling and pre jump nerves all adds up to be nothing, nothing like regular sky diving. But yes, spec ops have the shit. They have to. Much can go wrong and does

I had a business acquaintance that was a Green Beret. He would go missing for a couple of weeks every now and then and cone back to work with cuts and scratches some times. Some 35 years later he tells me a little about where he was. He was a Halo jumper and also had done the vertical extraction thing where the plane catches you and jerks your straight up then reels you in. He had does this back in the beginning of Halo and once he admitted to getting blown many miles into the wrong country. This was before we had good weather info and he could be dropped into a 100 mph wind they did not know was there. Poor guy had to steal a newspaper to figure out where he was and then walk 4 nights to get where he was supposed to be. What a huge help weather satellites and GPS must be now.

My Dad was a master HALO instructor. His instructor certificate has that he jumped from 30,400 feet and fell for 143 seconds before deploying, they were trying to beat the Asian HALO record but the plane could not get any higher, this was 1967. They were jumping in Thailand. One comment he made about the jump, "It took for ever to get down, over 2 minutes, I was getting bored, jeez when is it going to be over." When he retired he became a civilian instructor for the US Army HALO committee.
