Bruce Springsteen killed it for me. When he came in with Stevie Wonder. They all killed it, but Bruce sung like he was in pain, like he was about to give birth to something!! Bruce Springsteen killed it, woke it back up and then killed it again!! Especially when he belted out "We are the world!!! We are the children!!! And the part, "There's a choice we're making and we're saving our own lives.!! Gave me chills!!!

i remember this. It was a big deal when they all came together for this. Several of the artists in this are gone now. But it was as amazing then as it is now..

Ray Charles, Stevie wonder , James Ingram KILLED IT. I also really liked Diana and Michael. Michael kills it so effortlessly. Effortlessly! And yes, it goes without saying that Cyndi was awesome.

2:46 His face when Bruce started to sing! And he went from stunned listening to having a smile come to his lips when Steve Perry leaned in at 3:00 with that heavenly voice! You could see his reaction to Ray Charles, and how moved he was at Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen singing together, and just overwhelmed at the total group, chorus and soloists together. I was transfixed, watching Kassi so intent. Great reaction!

A lot of people were in the background: Harry Belafonte, Pointer Sisters, Lindsey Buckingham, 2 or 3 Other Jacksons...so many people! It seems like a lot of people are unfamiliar with him, but it was also James Ingram who did that falsetto howl ad lib towards the end.

An iconic song with a humanitarian message from an iconic time

When stars are willling to do backup, you know it's gotta be good.

I wonder how many of those artists you know on top of those you mentioned. Kenny Rogers (rip just recently), Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry from Journey, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen (the boss), Bob Dylan (already mentioned by one commenter), and so many others. When this came out there was also a 1-hour "the making of" video and it was fun watching these talents having a great time. It was recorded overnight and was directed by the great Quincy Jones who, after watching the initial recording, decided to add the solos of MJ, Bruce, Stevie and Ray Charles at the end. Yes they were inserted at post-op. Btw, did you know that Band Aid's "Do they know it's Christmas" was the first collaborative effort of British artists to raise funds for the famine that was going in Africa at that time? The American artists, collectively called USA for Africa followed up with this. And yes there was a remake of this for the Haiti earthquake which coincided with the original's 25th anniversary (Sorry for the long post)

Nice choice. I was 8 when this came out, and it blew me away. It still gives me feels. Later, when I grew up and got more musical knowledge, I started noticing more and more awesome folks involved (not just Michael Jackson, who was my fave as a kid), and it really is an amazing group to come together.

There’s also an amazing 2010, 25th anniversary remake which supported Haiti and the earthquake victims in 2010

The man standing by Harry Belafonte is comic actor Dan Ackroyd. Dan was one of the early SNL cast members. And an awesome musician as well. He was half of SNL music/comedy duo the Blues Brothers with John Belushi. And in the middle of it all is 60's voice of his generation and counter-culture icon, Bob Dylan. FYI - his son Jakob Dylan fronted 90's singing sensation group The Wallflowers. Michael Jackson wrote this song and it was produced by Quincy Jones. Like others in the day, I counted down the days to watch it's debut on MTV or VH1. I don't remember which one. The pairing of Stevie Wonder & Bruce Springsteen was genius. Their voices contrasted beautifully.

Absolutely EVERY SINGLE artist on this video was a true music legend when this was released in 1985

James Ingram does a phenomenal job all throughout this song and does t get enough credit for the pipes he has. That being said Steve Perry has the absolute best vocals on this song. He wasn’t dubbed “the voice” for nothing

On this song at least, it depended on what part he was given to sing and where his part was during the song. If for example he has Billy Joel's part, that line was early on and so quite understated.

I quite enjoyed your expressions as you watched this. It's nice you know some of the musicians, young as you are! This was my era.

The way they got so many SUPERSTARS each with justified superegos together like this in one room at the same time is phenomenal, although to be fair it comes on the heels of BandAid's "Do They Know It's Christmas" a few months earlier.

The whole Band Aid Project was breathtaking. No egos, just the course. Harry Belafonte way in the back. Paul Simon stood next to Kenny Roger's. Same at the concert. It was a special time.

This is still such a remarkable collaboration. I would recommend anyone to listen to at least one of the greatest hits of each of the performers who participated in this song, because they were each so uniquely talented. Also, if you’ve never seen it, please react to The Jackson Five performing a medley on The Ed Sullivan Show from Dec. 14, 1969.
