Tyre Hammer build progress

Ойын-сауық

I have been asked by a few to do a more in depth video on my hammer build. Unfortunately I didn't plan on making one during the build so here is a compilation of stills and short clips that I did take.

I'm still so jealous of that adjustable head! I might have to make another one someday. I used a piece of drill stem that was the appropriate circumference for my pulley and then I found a metal pulley that would fit inside of that, balanced it, then welded it up. Thanks for the video.

Very nice fabrication job. I don’t trust my welding enough to attempt something that would take such forces. Kudos Frank

That’s a beautiful job you did there, thanks for putting the show together. Love the idea of the adjustable head, really good improvement to make by the look of it. Just wondering though, how much more superior it is to just having a lower anvil height and fitting various height saddles onto that to change the distance between the tools? Would that not be rigid enough? Suppose it’d stuff up your working height too?

You're right, it wouldn't be as stable and I personally would find it difficult with changing working heights.

Where did you get the six inch steel for the anvil from?

Half of it came from the scrap yard and the other half a friend gave me.

Do you have the measurements/dimensions for the adjustable head? 4:00 minutes into the video for reference.

I can get them next time i'm in the shop which will be Tuesday. I think it's about 30 inches long and I made it a snug fit around the box section with about 1/4' between the two pieces for clamping.

The head is in two parts both 30” long. One is 3 ¼” x 5 the other 1 ¾” x 5 leaving ¼” gap for tightening. Obviously it needs making to fit the size box you are using as your mast. I welded my on the mast with tin can shims in place. I wanted a reasonably tight fit.
