Quit letting them not identify without doing something. Ring the non emergency line, while in their presence, and report a person impersonating a cop. At the very least their non compliance will be documented.

Unfortunately, the police in the United Kingdom have become a self-governing entity, seemingly unconstrained by the laws they are meant to uphold. Regrettably, our country lacks a truly efficient police force as they seem to be preoccupied with monitoring and regulating online activities rather than focusing on more pressing matters.

That female cop did a really good job interacting with you. She wasn’t aggressive, and she did not forcefully demand any identification. The other guys were terrible.
