This isn't a surprise at all, DA is one of the best defensive coaches the Saints have ever had, of course the defensive guys absolutely love him.

I feel like we should give Allen the full season to really judge him. This is his first time having HIS guy on the offense side of the ball. Many years we lost cause sean had the offense good but defense straight dog trash. So this season is the true make or break

The sum is the total of all the parts, especially in terms of coaching and leadership. Carmichael was never Dennis Allen’s guy and it’s beyond tiring to hear over and over again Dennis Allen as HC can’t get the saints to where they want to be. His players love him as demonstrated, clearly he can coach too, just like Sean before him he only needs better help on the other side of the ball. Kubiak will deliver this season.

Carmichael was his guy. He hired him and kept him 2 years. Also the HC dictates the culture and also makes the decisions on what type of style of play he wants from the offense. The non aggressive decisions were on Allen. Running Andy Dalton out every week his 1st year was on Allen.

Defense was 9th ranked. The O started to get going the last five or so without Cancer Thomas. Perry stepped up. Rookie RB stepped up, OL and run game was better. Saints finished strong. And for those saying the NFC South was weak, look at what Tampa did in playoffs. Pushed Lions till the end. And Saints whooped them in the last one. Getting Fuaga was a great get. New OC has the scheme that can kill, from Fisco, but WCO so not a lot of new for language, etc.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but our schedule has been easier and we went 9-8, so comparing us to an 11-6 KC team with a harder schedule doesn’t make sense. We feel very far away from a team like that.

And the handling of the salary cap! The media hates the way the Saints manipulate the salary cap, which makes them write the same articles every year about the Saints need to blow things up by rebuilding and take the cap hit.

  • @Mr_Don1

@@BigBreed32the Saints are wise with how they handle the salary cap. Blow it up and start over for what reason? To be a bad team like the Panthers for the next 10 years? The NFL isn't the NBA. You can't draft one player and change your franchise. Any organization that isn't trying to win every year is simply a bad organization. Even if you draft a franchise QB who becomes a star, there's still no guarantee that you won't be more than a 10-7 team anyway. Not to mention, you normally have to go through 2-3 QBs (or more) taken high in the draft before you find one, and it takes 3-4 years for each one before you figure out if they can play. The reason why the media is picking the Saints last is because of feelings...they don't FEEL good about them because Derek Carr and Dennis Allen have a negative reputation, but the team is clearly better than both the Panthers and Falcons. I'd even argue that the Saints should be the favorites to win the division. I think Carr will be better this year, and he will probably be more comfortable in his second year by default. I think getting rid of Michael Thomas is addition by subtraction (the offense played much better once he got hurt). We have an offensive coordinator who is much better than the one we had. I'm not that high on Dennis Allen either, but Sean Payton also had a LOT of mediocre seasons with the team, too. I'm willing to give Dennis Allen another year. If Dennis Allen goes 11-6 or 12-5 this season (which could have happened last season if Carr doesn't get hurt and a few plays go the other way in games we barely lost), people's opinions on him will start to change. Winning changes everything.

I'm not saying names lol but I've worked out with Saints players since before the Superbowl year and still do somethings with NFL players now at a place called Sonic Boom, DBs WRs mostly, in that way I got to know other personnel, assistant coaches and things like that over the last 15 years. But I will say what was said about Derrick Carr by a guy who was on the offensive staff while we watched the last Superbowl at his home...he's really smart, knows everything and understands really complicated ideas, he's like someone who knows all the answers but just can't apply what he knows, and he and Allen are not the answer, and he also broke down Pete Carmichael and Dennis Allen and some internal things

WTF are you even talking about? You & many Saints fans have an altered view of reality. Have you ever heard of the “false dilemma” fallacy? That’s what you are doing. It’s not & never will be, stay in the middle or rebuild and be a contender. Look at the Arizona Cardinals for Christ sake. The 2015 Cards were 13-3 & lost in the conference championship. In 2016, they went 7-8-1 In 2017, they went 8-8 They decided, instead of being mediocre, they’d blow it up & draft their QB of the future, so they did. They drafted Josh Rosen and went 3-13 & got the number 1 overall pick. So, in 2019, they drafted their next QB of the future with the number 1 over all pick, Kyler Murray and got another new head coach and went 5-10-1. In 2020, they went 8-8, they’re back to mediocre in the 3rd year of the rebuild. In 2021, 4th year of the rebuild, they go 11-6 & lose in the 1st round of the playoffs, but they’re on their way to contention, right? In 2022, 5th year of the rebuild, they go 4-13, oh wait, they suck again. In 2023, they start ANOTHER rebuild, fire the head coach and go 4-14. They kept the QB, who’s no longer on a Rookie deal. This is how it goes a lot of the time, the Chicago Bears story in very similar. They’re on their 3rd First Round QB and haven’t found one better than Derek Carr yet, we’ll see how Caleb works out? This is what the “blow it up & rebuild” crowd doesn’t understand, you often end up in the exact same position, 6 years later, they have 1 playoff loss, one 8-8 season & 4 really bad seasons, and you’re trying to rebuild again. In 6 seasons, the Saints might also end up with only a playoff loss to show for it, but I’ll tell you from experience, 9-8 football is a lot more bearable than 4-13 football. Saints fans are so spoiled and entitled, they’ve forgotten what a 4 win season looks like & are under some misguided notion that a 4 win season leads to success, when most often it leads to more 4 win seasons, peaking at 8 wins, every now and then. Saints fans & media live in a fantasy land. 🤦‍♂️

I don’t think we will go anywhere with Dennis Allen as the head coach (look at his overall record) and Derek Carr as the starting QB. We revamped the offensive coaching staff but the Saints really didn’t add any new, outstanding offensive weapons. And yes, we finished 9-8 last year but that was with the easiest schedule in the league. I’m not expecting anything to happen this year.
