Apologies for the wait. A combination of things messing with my ability to be productive this month. Firstly the toddler has officially reached the terrible part of the terrible twos which includes full on bedtime/wakeup/middle of the day meltdowns, it has been driving me genuinely insane. Secondly, Elden Ring came out, I have since spent over 100 hours immersed in it's world in a vain effort to escape that aforementioned reality and when I'm not playing Elden Ring, I'm thinking about Elden Ring, I have an Elden Ring addiction. Anyways, I'm back! When this one came to my attention it immediately bumped everything off the list. I love Typing Of The Dead, I also have a strange nostalgia for Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing (hence the thumbnail) so you could say this ticked all the right boxes, filled out the right forms and did so with an admirable WPM rate!

Considering there is a modern FPS game coming out that utilizes the doom engine, at this point we just need to accept a simple fact: *There IS no limit to the modding community for DOOM.*

I'd say there definitely is a limit, but doom modders are just insanely good at working around those limits. My favourite example would have to be moving platforms. In a discussion about the recently released GZDoom mapset "Elementalism", one of the devs was saying how the way they implement moving platforms is basically by continually raising and lowering floors or something. Still, I would not be shocked if moving platforms get hacked into gzdoom at some point. Actually, scratch that, I'm relatively sure the eternity engine can do them already.

Minor missed opportunity to call this "Typing of the Doomed."

Would like to see longer/harder words for enemies with higher HP. Might also be cool to remove player movement entirely and base the 'rails' on the speedrun demos.

Now I'm just tempted to pickup Typing of the Dead: Overkill, since I enjoyed the regular on the rails version

Thay add sentences and to kill the icon of sin you have to type out war and peace

Pretty hilarious mod. One thing I'd change about it though is maybe scaling word magnitude (number of letters) to the health and or difficulty of the enemies. More resilient the enemy, the larger the word. Increased difficulty game mode, Increased vocab difficulty.

Typing of the dead is one of my most favourite games! Why? Becuse of this game, i was able to place 2nd in typing contest in my school. Then this was the ONLY game where could I say "But mooom! I´m practicing for typing on typewriter (yup, we got this on our school)"! and got away with it. Not the math! That would be literal "Hell on Earth" for me! (Pun intended x) )

I played a bunch of great typing games before that. All the best ones are action games with typing elements, and you are right, they massively boosted my typing speed. I couldn't stand the "dry" ones as a kid, but Jesus, if you throw in a bunch of approaching alien ships typing gets a lot more interesting. Well, that and playing Counter-Strike before voice communications were popular.

I played DO$ and Win95 games as a little kid in the 90s, it was already painful to play an FPS with arrows and CTRL, let alone trying to strafe with even more buttons.

I don't really play much Doom, but there are some crazy mods out there. It's so satisfying to listen to you talk about them.

Having more complex words or phrases for higher tier enemies seems like the way to go, rather than just retyping a simple word

Played this since it appeard on forum. The only thing it needs is that after the shot if enemy didn't die it should change words you need to type. Typing same word isn't much of the training.

Welcome to Mario Teaches Typing! That's one of two typing "games" I played growing up. The other was a pure DOS experience where words fell "missile command" style and you had to type them before they hit the ground. I never heard of Meavis Beavis Teavis Typis before that title card.

When I hear missile command style I think of a title by spinnaker software called kids on keys. Did you have to identify the words behind different objects? Like if a balloon was shown Did you have to type in Balloon?

@@wendyokoopa7048 The game didn't have advanced enough graphics for that, or graphics of any sort really. Sorry, I think we're thinking of two different games. That one does sound interesting though!

It would be cool if this mod had a setting for full speed monsters, but without movement locking if you wanted to play co-op with a buddy; one of you on a controller "driving" and the other on the keyboard "turret gun".

Interesting mod. I still play Typing of the Dead from time to time. Fun game. You reminded me of that Pokemon typing game they made for the DS, which came with a mini keyboard.

If you can’t hurt someone with words, you aren’t trying hard enough.

I love Doom so much. Anyone making Doom content deserves a follow!

Typing of the Doom. Not one I expected to see. A welcome change nonetheless. I do agree that stronger monsters should have longer phrases, though. Zombiemen have like three or four letter words, imps get like six letters, cacodemons short two word sentences, and so on. Having to dodge between rocket volleys while pecking out a short paragraph could actually make for a pretty intense cyberdemon fight.

I think a good way to implement longer words would be to make the better weapons use longer words, so the pistol is just short words but the BFG has absurd ones.

I love how the "killphrase" mode catces you off guard sometimes, resulting in "wawwwwwwwwwasssawd."

Typing of the Doomed

It took decades, but we finally went from AFK to BFK. Wonderful!

Naturally, when the mod gets updated for sentences, the Cyberdemon's should be "Shoot it until it dies".

Instead of preventing the player from dipping below 1 health, track damage as a score, and the lower your score the better.

With The House of the Dead Remake coming out in under a month this is perfect timing. EDIT: Man I really need to play some of these typing games because my typing can be good but only when life decides it.

i actually think its a good idea to make the phrase or word difficulty dependant on the weapon selected, that way you can choose between long sentences with a big burst of fire power or short words with rapid fire.

I think it would be nice for the slow-mo to affect everything instead of just projectiles and if initiating combat would be done by a click when an enemy is in line of sight rather than automatically.

Different types of keyboards presented such an opportunity to make pistol make You type short words more frequently for less damage, shotguns could use two or three words? Bfg could be the long words and stuff, or maybe plasma would shoot more bolts per word depending on how fast You typed the word

This seems like a genuinely useful tool for giving kids a fun way to learn and practice typing! Back in my day, all we had in the computer labs was Ultra Key, and it was a very boring, dry program. If I'd had this mod back in school I think I would have been a bit more enthusiastic :P

It would be cool if the amount of hits it takes to kill an enemy is how many words you have to type to kill it. So if you have a pistol and are against a large enemy you'll get a pretty big sentence or string of words but less if you have a more powerful weapon
