Gosh I miss Type O! There are a few bands that I would put on my "resurrection list" and Type O negative is right up near the top. How I wish Peter was still alive! He was so cool; he fronted a goth-metal band, yet the lyrics were satirical and tongue in cheek. The songs were all so catchy, yet heavy as all hell. There was so much left for them to do; it makes me so sad that so much potential died with Steele. :(

Just to add a personal note: I remember keenly an epic interview of Peter by Vanessa Warwick in the good ole time of Headbangers' Ball on MTV sometimes in 92 or 93... and of course, TON's gig at Brixton Academy in London and later at Eysée Montmartre in Paris...

@@jeanbonnefoy1377 I've seen a few interviews with him, and I can't help but think how cool he was as a person. In one he talked about how he always tried to stay in shape so the audience wouldn't have to watch some out of shape dude wheeze his way through a song on stage. I mean, he always had a certain pride in everything he did; something not too many people have anymore. His interviews on Springer and Howard Stern were flat out hilarious! And I love how he never took himself too seriously. People say how depressing his music sounded, but those people obviously don't pay attention to the lyrics. I mean, didn't he say at one point that the title track of Bloody Kisses was about his cat?

Just to give you a real life idea... I met Peter at Duff's Brooklyn during the Dead Again release party. He was sitting outside drinking and chatting with fans, signing albums and such. Me an 2 friends walk up (after scrambling back to the car desperately searching for scrap paper) and are greeted by the big man. He goes "where you guys from", "Long Island" we say. "You guys must be Jewish or Italian". He was spot on about both 😁.

Pete was an underrated bass player, the way he lays a foundation under a riff is quite unique and innovative. His tone was otherworldly to me, the stuff he does on the World Coming Down album will haunt my psyche forever. The chorus to God is Dead from Carnivore gave me nightmares as a kid back in the day before Type O came out. Bottom line, Pete had a unique musical voice and his genius cannot be denied.

I had a half sister who was 9 years older than me in the 1970s. I was seven when she bought me the first Sabbath record. I remember being scared to pieces when I saw the cover & heard the opening riff, but it changed my little 7 year old girl brain forever. In a way that I'm eternally grateful for. My favourite Type O riff is in Everything dies. I had an MRI and I swear it sounded like the darkest riff from it. It made me so happy while I was in the machine. I told the tech to check it out & wrote it down for him since he heard the machine every day. I don't know if he just thought I was nuts or if he listened & was enlightened & thrilled, but it sure made the experience better. I had another one a year later (horse accidents to back) and the machine was new. It sounded like cheap synth tones and I was pretty disappointed:))

My boyfriend at the time, 1990, loved Type O and introduced me to their music. Actually, speaking of introductions, I did meet Peter Steele in the early 90s, I believe it was at Studio One in Newark, here in New Jersey. Anyway, I too became a fan and saw them play twice. I also was lucky enough to see Carnivore in the city too, probably around 1990. I didn't want to like the song, "Carnivore" because of the lyrics but couldn't help it, although I couldn't sing along out loud. My favorite Type O album has always been "Slow Deep and Hard". "Gravitational Constant" and "Unsuccessfully Coping with the Natural Beauty of Infidelity" were my favorites. Who else could come up with such lyrics... "Practicing freelance gynecology/ Where there's a womb there's a way / With you it's for free" You've also gotta love the sing-along type section with the repeating backing vocals:: "I know you're f#*king someone else-----/ He knows you're f#*king someone else / I know--- / He knows! / I said I know---! / He said he knows! Ah, memories...
