Ғылым және технология

We are investigating the Type 209-class, the most successful commercial diesel-electric submarine in the last half-century. #type209 #submarine
Why has the Type 209-class achieved such brilliant commercial success in the international market?
What are the general characteristics of the submarine?
What are the differences between its subclasses?
Why was ARA Salta unsuccessful in the 1982 Falklands War?

Welcome to our new content. As the Weapon Detective, we are investigating modern weapon systems of the Second Cold War. The Weapon Legends is about older weapon systems. In our videos, we tell their epic stories which made them a legend. The Weapon Legends investigates these stories, reads between the lines, analyse, and tells the untold. In our videos, you can find technical information as well as historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let the wisdom of history show us what the future would be like. Let’s investigate the veteran weapons of the past together.

7:40 My uncle worked at the modernization of the 209/1200 and the build of the 214s. It wasn't as much of "economical difficulty" why the second 209 sub wasn't modernized but mostly because it was considered a waste, because the modernization changes were deemed not noteworthy so it was cancelled.

Had no idea that Agentine subs could have sunk more british ships including nuclear sub. How could I miss that? India didnt produce anymore of these subs when they had learnt that South Africa had aquired knowledge of the subs from germany. Its strange that Janes doesnt mention this in their yearly books. Janes should know about this. Dont say I know more than Janes.

Good video. A piece of quick inside information: During diving and surfacing, two rudders near the front trim tank are opened. The one on the starboard of these rudders is inclined upwards and is used in the surfacing. In the Turkish Navy, this manoeuvre is called "sancak selamet", which means "the starboard is safety". The one on the portside of these rudders is inclined downwards and is used for diving. In the Turkish Navy, this manoeuvre is called “iskele felaket”, which means "the portside is disaster".

1:51 not only that but the geography of the North Sea with Britain lying at its exit towards the open Atlantic whilst Germany was situated at its other end meant the British would always be able to dictate any engagement between the two navies and their still significant advantage in numbers meant they could also dictate the force disparity in any enncounter. The German plan to win WW1 at sea was to lure the British Home Fleet out and wear it down ship by ship - which the British countered by sending out its fleet in force whenever the Germans would take to the North Sea. This also meant the High Seas Fleet was not capable of breaching the naval blockade Britain had erected around the German Bight. U-Boats were a further development of the surface raiders the Germans already used with varying success. Their ability to dive beneath the blockade made it much easier to avoid detection though and soon, German U Boats would try to lock down the Irish Sea just like the Home fleet locked down the North Sea.

you have some mistakes: the peruvians u209s dont have capacity to launch harpoon (they dont even have this missiles), they have 6 u209 but 2 are in refit with haul cut and maybe dont sail again. only greece, turkish and corean u209s have the sub harpoon capacity. the 2 chileans u209 are type 1400 L (from large), they have the capacity to launch missiles (sm39 exocet) and operate the heavy blackshark torpedoes. the chileans u209 had a extensive refit in 2008 in ASMAR shipyards in chile with new sonar, cms, etc. that mimic some of the features of the more modern scorpenne class. the ecuatorians u209 1300 was modernized in 2012 also in ASMAR chile, so they have similar capacities than the chileans

Germany has been a pioneer in designing & building submarines, since 1936 . . . really like to learn about the rationale behind most of the world's navies opting for small submarines, such as the Type 209/212 & Scorpène class of light displacement fast attack submarines . . . unlike surface combatants 84% of all submarines currently in service with navies around the world has an average displacement of less than 1,630 tons (submerged/loaded) . . . ofcourse putting aside the world of nuclear powered guided ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) & naval based nuclear delivery solutions, because only a handful of navies operate SSBNs armed with nukes . . . is it because of the high cost of submarines or lack of capabilities that are not necessary at the moment . . . so why spend millions in incorporating some state-of-the-art naval warfare solution in a simple 1,120 ton (loaded) fast attack submarine . . . a piece of submerged warfare tech that is really not needed in the current situation . . . for e.g. a dedicated six-cell VLS instead of the improvised torpedo tube launched missiles . . .
