    Hi Michelle! I am a pharmacy student in the US, and I was so excited to hear that Fiasp has finally been approved for use in the US. It sucks that it did not work out for you, but I hope that it will be a good option for some of my patients who have issues with blood sugar spikes.

    How long does being approved typically translate to being available? I'd love to be able to get a script tomorrow, tho I'd probably only need it for the morning. Excellent news though :)

    @9:30 For me and I know this is going to sound really bad but my mum has secondary progressive MS and this is where I think my autoimmune T1 diagnosis aged 47 has stemmed from but I feel lucky to have been diagnosed with T1 which I can control with insulin and education as opposed to secondary progressive MS which is not controllable.

    kzread.info/dash/bejne/mYZp1LWigKTgiLA.html My son was 11 when diagnosed as type 1 diabetic. We live in a small town so my wife took him to a hospital in a nearby city while I stayed at home with the other kids. The next morning in the hospital, my son was having a hard time coping with the news and the realization of challenges he would face. I felt helpless not being there. I wrote “Holding On” to tell him the things I wanted him to know: that he was strong enough to endure and was equal to the task. #T1DStrong

    Best part, only part, about being diabetic is it has forced me to eat somewhat healthy. No candy or sugar soda or desserts unless treating hypoglycemia. Eating healthy, or not eating unhealthy, is good for you. Worst part is hypoglycemia and becoming unconscious and having a diabetic seizure. Diabetes is costly too, which is very bad. Thousands of dollars per year for supplies and doctor visits and the cost of unforeseen paramedic treatment. And in the USA until the Affordable Care Act, it was impossible, illegal for me to purchase health care insurance due to pre-existing condition of diabetes.

    I actually wrote my bachelor thesis with the only other T1D I know. He later dropped out, but he was a physicist for a while :P My husband has a PhD in instrumentation for astrophysics, so he's a physicist too, not a T1D though :P I actually had lectures in quantum mechanics during my Master's in the same lecture hall where Niels Bohr taught back then. That was pretty cool! :D:D His office is preserved exactly as it was:)

    Hi Michelle, hope you are doing all good. i was diagnosed two month ago and already tired of managing it, i am now depressed and easily get angry and each night when going to bed i am afraid from hypo. How do you deal with negative feelings and if you were newwly diagnosed would you do anything different ?

  • @MichelleLord

    Hey! I'm sorry to hear you are having a hard time :( ! I would highly suggest talking to other type 1 diabetics. It's really comforting to talk to others and see that you are not alone. I find that helps when I'm having bad days. There is a HUGE T1D community on Instagram. If you look at my account (@miche_lo) and see who I follow, you will find a lot of T1Ds. If I were newly diagnosed, I don't think I would do anything drastically different, maybe just get involved in more T1D community events.

    The volume you consume will determine the bolts. It also depends on the variety, sweeter varieties like blue popcorn often require more insulin. Peoples bodies are also different. I

    Hi Michelle , i am type 1 for almost 40 years . The biggest improvement for me as a type 1 has been going on the Ketogenic diet. It is a strict diet ,but the rewards are amazing . You will have a controlled blood sugars and your hypo's are not a scary disaster because your brain will use Ketones instead of glucose, and you can think clearly if you ever get low blood sugars. Do some research on it , It is a major lifestyle change! But worth it ! Sorry, you won't be able to eat carbs on this diet, but you will be protecting your health! Tom

    I've let diabetes stop me from doing far too many things. Then again, some things, like going on a hiking trip through the mountains, would pose some logistical problems as far as safely storing insulin and keeping my blood sugar test kit temperature safe. But I know I'm just making excuses. Just recently I saw another video by a type one named Jen Grieves, and she did a marathon and a 300k bike ride as well. She's now my idol and a superhero to me. It's amazing what some people with this disease are able to accomplish.

  • @MichelleLord

    Yes, there are some T1Ds out there doing amazing things! I know some marathon runners, and people biking across America. It's so inspirational! Personally, I wouldn't feel completely comfortable hiking through the mountains for the same reasons as you. However, a lot of T1Ds do it. It all depends on what you are comfortable with :)

    It's an accomplishment for me just knowing I made it through a day of having traveled some miles in a car, all the while not forgetting to take the proper snacks, glucose, and insulin. And sometimes I'll even misplace those. So yeah, I understand. I take victories in the small things.

  • @TrevorATX

    @TrevorATX

    6 жыл бұрын

    Andrew Williamson hey man usually you'll get that when you have high blood sugars and if they are uncontrolled and if they are unhealthy high. So if you're drinking water but not feeling like it's quenching your thirst and keep drinking more water it's because of high blood sugar

  • @MichelleLord

    If that happens to a diabetic, are they supposed to quench that thirst or not drink that much water?

  • @TrevorATX

    @TrevorATX

    6 жыл бұрын

    Andrew Williamson I'm not a doctor but I'm a t1d, but what's happening is your body is trying to flush out that high sugar (it won't actually flush out the sugar so the thirst won't go away) and drinking water is good but not to much because it will cause low sodium levels etc etc. Basically what you want to do is I'd say work on getting those blood sugars down because if you're encountering thirst, the numbers are very unhealthy. Work on getting the numbers down and don't drink more than the daily recommended amount of water or else you'll flush out nutrients you need. Again not 100% sourced because I'm not a doctor but this is from experience. If you have any more questions about this you should speak to an endocrine who specializes in diabetes.

    I don't have the level of thirst anywhere close to how she describes it, I just feel thirsty and I drink a bunch of glasses of water before quenching my thirst for an hour or two. Do I just drink a lot of water or is this a cause for concern?
