Loved seeing this. I still live here and this video took me right back to the mid 80’s. Wish I could go back in time!

God, the noise of that arcade machine at the end there. Every Sunday afternoon after we’d visited Gran in Byker that was the soundtrack to my young life, in the amusement arcade at the top of King Edward’s bay in Cullercoats. Brilliant footage. Historical video document, really, when you think about it.

Nice video, brings back some great memories . I remember ailing my model yacht on Tynemouth boating lake, then a few years later would hire rowing boats there too, during school lunch breaks. The pond today is covered in weeds, well it was the last time I looked

That's my (now deceased) step-mum at 1:34 minutes into the video, in the centre of the three ladies. Pearl Wray, and she used to meet up with friends in Tynemouth quite regularly.

@G G It was - also a shock as I didn't expect it of course. But so lovely to know she's on film and on line for the foreseeable future - more so as she worked for BBC TV so would have seen the funny side of this!

I know there was a lot of unemployment on Tyneside ar the time, but if you had a job or a good pension, the cost of living was so much lower nearly 40 years ago. My uncle bought a recently modernised flat near Northumberland Park in early 1985 for 13k, same downstairs flats go for at least 100k now. You could get a pint for 60 pence( £5 in some places now) and watch Newcastle play for £4( £40 now).
