They asked newcastle united to pay to redecorate and get rid of any Red & White or sunderland based decorations, as it would be cheaper to newcastle to sort it in preparation than paying to fix it afterwards Newcastle then went and did all this without the decoration being signed off (which it should have been per the two club's agreement)

As someone who grew up in the area you really could feel the tension between the supporters. It feels like both supporters want to kill eachother. It's that intense

As a Sunderland fan who doesnt live in the North East, I always say to my mates that this is the greatest rivalry in English football but they all laugh at me. This derby is just incredible. Im not even from England and i already know that this derby is one the best, but i didnt know it was THAT mean of a derby. The trio of Tyne-Tees-Wear, mostly the tyne and the wear, have given so much to the game and have made it so special. Every English fan says their derby is the best in England but the only ones that can claim this and will have my support on the statement are the Sunderland and Newcastle supporters. Anyways, its very sad to see Sunderland bending over for Newcastle because of money diff but i am still very excited for this game. Tees ? The Tees is the south, its Yorkshire mate, there is no Tyne/Wear v Tees derby. Its Tyne v Wear only. Sunlun and Newcastle fans do not consider Boro/Tees to be a derby let alone the north east.

I’m From Manchester but have family in Newcastle. I’ll tell you translating geordie to my Mrs was fun, my cousin would say “Ho way we’re gannin doon the pub like” to me and she would just look at me like he’s speaking Spanish. My little cousin said I “Cannent” do that and she was baffled

Even as a geordie it’s awful that apparently the club had workers to destroy their bar

It stems from the mid 1600s & the civil war. Parliamentarians vs. Royalists. Newcastle & Sunderland were on opposing sides. My family is split down the middle. As a toon fan myself with my dad yet my grandad & cousins are all lifelong Mackems. It makes for great banter at parties.

The name of the derby is the Tyne-Wear derby. But referring to the fixture it depends on where it’s played. For example because Sunderland played at home it’s Wear-Tyne but if it was played at Newcastle then it would be Tyne-Wear

The cheer up Peter Reid is always there. It's a song Sunderland fans sang whilst he was manager. It was even released as a chart single and nearly made the top 40.

I’m 27 being that age and a Sunderland fan has been a mad ride never started watching till I was about 7/8 and all I’ve known is shit, barring the time we smashed them every time in that crazy run of games haha there’s a few other good memories but the derbies mean the most. Good video. But worth noting Cheer Up Peter Reid was a Sunderland song. It was even released in the charts in the 90s. Newcastle sang a spin on it.

This is beyond insane. Who the hell approved this? Have to agree with the Glasgow derby being played too often. The SPFA need to expand the league to include more teams to reduce the frequency.

At this point, even if Sunderland lose, it won't mean anything. You can't go and redesign YOUR OWN STADIUM in your HATED RIVAL'S colors. That's like Man City vs Man Utd, and painting 1/3 of Old Trafford blue to make the City fans feel good. It's unheard of, especially in English football. I'm an American and EVEN I KNOW THIS!!!

Can't remember the last time I've looked forward to a game where I don't support either team this much.

8:06 as much as i enjoyed this video, there is a big mistake. We did'nt get relegated that year, we stayed up. Infact we finished above sunderland in 2014/15. We actually got relegated the next year, in the 2015/16 season

The Derby travelled to Oakland California (USA) recently. Our parish contains a Dominican Priory that hosts international sabbatical program for priests and religious. I am a Newcastle supporter. Our replacement priest lives in Newcastle, but is a Sunderland man. Tense/cordial post mass conversation a few years ago, Sunderland had been sent down from the Premier League but their supporters were confident in an immediate return. Look how wrong you can be.

I’m a Sunderland fan who doesn’t live in the North East, no one understands what this derby truly means. Unfortunately due to us not playing against each other for years, people don’t understand it. I can’t blame them 🤷‍♂️ I’m 16 and can only remember Defoe’s volley which was a massive moment, how can we expect other people to realise how big the derby really is?

I'm a exiled Sunderland supporter in Spain used to have a season ticket in the 80s&90s and while it's not ideal I don't really care it's the on field action that is the thing that matters and given a choice now I'd take a drubbing by Newcastle if we were guaranteed promotion. But I do appreciate it's difficult for fan if you live on the area.

As a Sunderland fan and season ticket holder through the good years and the bad years, I've had nerves before the Derby every time and this is no different. But this is a complete free hit for us, if we win, it will be the most embarrassing thing to happen to Newcastle in my lifetime. If we lose, it's expected, we are a championship side. It's going to be fiery, feisty and its going to be a loud atmosphere, from both sides. I'm hoping Sunderland continue the Derby tradition of hire a new manager before the Derby and take home the win, but I'm absolutely bricking it regardless 😂 Ha'way the Lads 🔴⚪️

I've gone into derbies thinking it's gonna be 8-0 and we won comfortably, and then there's been derbies I think we are gonna win and it finished a draw. No Sunderland fan hides the fact your team is better, but if we do win, and it could happen, you have to go into work on Monday and get reminded about it for a long time to come, if you win, none of us will say we didn't say you would already. Defoes volley goal was 2014/2015 not the year Newcastle got relegated. He scored at SJP in a 1-1 draw that season.

People don’t realise how deep this Derby is. Both cities have hated each other since the English Civil War with Newcastle fighting for Charles I and Sunderland fighting for Oliver Cromwell. Then you had the intense rivalry in the Industrial Revolution between the ship building and mining industry which continued the resentment between the two. Based on deep seated history between two groups only the Old Firm has more history

At the SOL its Wear/Tyne, at St. James its Tyne/Wear. At least that's what most people tend to go off haha great video mate. KLD can do one he has shamed the club and spat in our faces. I do understand where you're coming from viz but this is common practice for teams in the dressing rooms they put there own flags banners colours up etc to keep away from "head games" trying to make it feel as home for themselves as possible and that's normally done by members of the opposite team the kit men basically also make there experience as close to there home ground as possible if I've explained this well enough 😂😂

This is not about the dressing rooms (even there I remember reading that there are differences between the home and away ones sometimes and I don’t think they repaint them every match or anything, maybe they come with 2 banners there and put them up like you said) but about something as public as fan areas, that is just a massive L. I am not even from England and I am still pissed on behalf of Sunderland fans, I can only shudder at the thought of my club doing this

It's called the Tyne and wear Derby because the county both clubs are situated in is called tyne and wear. Mackems will claim it's the wear and tyne derby if played in Sunderland because they think it's name isn't derived from the county but is somehow a superiority complex.

It will be tough for Sunderland to keep up their good derby record, given how much has changed for both clubs since 2016, Newcastle with their new owners and Sunderland coming back from double relegation. But, "it's the hope I can't stand". Gerrinterem lads!

Good video mate but the picture frame with "Cheer up Peter Reid" has nothing to do with Newcastle. That's the song they used to sing about 'monkeys heed' (Peter reid)...we changed it to "Fuckoff Peter Reid" but "Cheer up Peter Reid" was their original song so the picture is fine and theirs
