Tyler Hoover - TST Podcast

Ойын-сауық

Tyler Hoover tells us about how he got a "free" Lamborghini Countach; his huge new farmstead; the famous Bentley he owned (and the celebrity that bailed on it); how working on Car Trek differs from his TV show; his cars; and a lot more.

Tyler should be awarded the Medal of Honor for buying the cheapest version of cars and showing car enthusiasts that it is not a good idea to buy those cars, therefore he saved billions of dollars for car community.🏆🏆🏆🥇🥇🥇🏅🏅🏅

Lol, yeah, probably 75% of the time it's a big money-losing proposition, especially since he has to pay someone else to fix them. But, still tempting for those of us with lesser means to still try it. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.

I don't think he ever is. Seems like a simple country dude who's good with people - and weirdly, there are pretty few of these among car guys - people like Daddy Doug, Whistlin Diesel and many, many others are just genuine look-at-me lords. Tyler is not - for some reason, which is why I'm watching most of his videos since the birth of his channel. Either way - great interview, greetings from Latvia.

Car Trek is one of those watershed moments that really showed the age of big networks holding the keys to the culture is over... Guys like them and Throttle House have proved it can be done from the bottom up and with a quality that's easily on par with anything the network oligarchy can put out there.

@@robertstahl8835 yep... Now almost anyone has access to the necessary production and broadcast resources. That doesn't mean everyone can make something work from it though. As with any field of creative endeavour, only a very small percentage of productions will always make up the majority of the audience demand. Because the demand does have its limitations, but for the first time in history the means to produce effectively does not. The trick now is going to be making sure as many people as possible get the opportunity to put their work out there and being vigilant about the ever present threats posed by intervention of state and/or corporate interests. Obviously this is something that I see as a huge opportunity, particularly in the field of performing arts and theatre, where I spend my days working. However nobody in that space has managed to crack the nut, quite like automotive channels have done. But boy have I been able to learn a lot from that well developed ecosystem of content creators. This is something I've been working on obsessively for the last few years and I think I see a way to make that work. It's an exciting time, but it could go either way from here.

The Jean-Claude story remind me of a story of mine. I was working for a company and one of the executives had a gorgeous white e34 535i with a manual and grey interior. I told him if he ever wanted to sell it. I would like to buy it. I kept waiting. I ended up buying a more luxurious car than I had before. Right after, someone told me that he just bought a new car. so there was a Green E39 in his parking space. I never did get his car. Which reminds me of another thing, I had a friend who got t-boned. his car was going to cost more than the car was worth to repair. I told him at the time that it was going to get totaled. I found a beautiful Ford Probe GT. We looked at the car, but he hadn't been paid by the insurance company yet. He had enough money he could have bought the car. Afterwards he told me that the insurance company declared a salvaged and they were going to give him a check. he went to me and said do you still have the number for the probe owner. This was before most people had cell phones. I go, no man. He probably already sold it. Then I found him a third generation Toyota Supra turbo, that had a ton of work done to it the car was clean as can be. I was tempted to buy it. I went and looked at it. Then I took him over to look at it. He didn't like that it was a manual, cloth interior, and red. He ended up buying a much worse Black 3rd gen Supra. which he threw a lot of money into and sold it cheap

Felt like Matt really tried hard to go negative in the beginning and it was awkward because Tyler is more of a glass 1/2 full kinda guy - Matt kept slamming with the negative - then once he figuring out Tyler wasn’t gonna go down that road / and finally he shifted. Overall really enjoyed the interview and all the topics they covered.

@@PHFilms3 indeed, thats why Tesla took their inspiration from airplanes and put redundant motors to handle the drive-by-wire, so it should be as safe as anything, maybe even more than a mechanical steering column.

@@feandil666 I could be wrong, but I think Jason Camissa said that during the last podcast that it didn’t have a back up. It was sometime ago but I think their e steering doesn’t have a redundancy so it can disconnect at anytime… please do not compare Tesla quality to that of an airplane. Or almost any manufacturer really.

@@feandil666You really need to do some more research. Regulation is far behind and it’s not until people die that regulators step in. This is something that has been brought up a lot lately. And it’s supported by research. You also can’t compare a car to an airplane. The FAA requires rigorous inspections and maintenance of airplanes. There are no such requirements for cars. So the Cybertruck drive by wire won’t be inspected and tested routinely. From what’s been reported there are no redundant systems.
