I'd happily nominate this extraordinary McPhail pattern for the Great Fishing Flies Hall of Fame. And it's an entirely straightforward tie for any reasonably competent tier. Eight people down-voted it, finally confirming their own insanity. This is high art that works on the river. I shall now return to the vice and tie another row or two. Thank you, Davie.

Hi Davie, I just want to thank you for sharing your fantastistic videos. Many of your fellow fly tiers, myself included, would pay handsomly for these video. It's heart warming to find such unselfishness in today's world. You remind me of my friends Harry and Elsie Darbee. They would share their knowledge with anyone who would listen. Again, thank you very much. Cheers, Pat

Hi Davie, I didn't think it could get much better than the McPhail emerger caddis, but you proved me wrong. When we were last up in Ayr I managed to get a day's fishing on the river, but unfortunately the day I chose was the day it came down in spate. In the prelude to your video's it's amazing to see the river running clear and looking so beutiful. Kind regards littleton911

@DavieMcPhail It is helpful, Davie. It reminds me I'm supposed to know more than I do about the bugs in my water. I'm slam up against the base of the east side of the Rocky Mountains... not flat, not mountain. The water is not small but it crashes pretty good. There are all sorts of bugs we don't have (smaller number of the varieties). I'll have to see if I can find some applicable references. Thanks for your help, Davie... I appreciate it. Mike

Thanks Davie. I think the lead I am using is for golf clubs. Is it possible to get the lead you use here in the U.S.? Also, are there any lead substitute foil sheets? A lot of the waters here are restricting the use of lead to weight flies. Thanks again.

Hi Davie. Ricci again from Italy. Please: - what is the heavy drop (varnish - glue ?) you lay on the fly's head at the end of tying? - before you make the final knot, you paint the tying silk with some kind of (varnish - glue ?). What is that? - you often use a thin, white silk no matter what the fly general colour: what is that? I am old and my tying mirrors my age: am not familiar with new ways and materials, but can always change to a more rational solutions. Thanks and best regards. Ricci

@DavieMcPhail Mr. McPhail, do you have any advice on using the lead tape? I am rather new to fly tying, but mine never seems to tye as nicely as yours. Im in the U.S. and the lead tape I get is rather bulky and has to be cut down to mimic the size you use. I tried using it on a few videos you posted (the McPhail emerger caddis specifically), but I get awefull results. Do you perhaps have measurements, or a specific company to buy from in mind for the lead tape? Thank you in advance-Brett

Hi Jerry Plaaten, I've attached two links to the tape that I use, the first one is the tape itself which is on a roll and is in different widths the other is to a wholesale company that sells fly tying materials so you need to find a shop that stocks their materials to get the tape...I hope this is of some help to you...
