    You're my favorite source of relaxation. I've been so stressed from moving and trying to get settled into our new house and your videos are such a breath of fresh air. I can't wait to get my tying room set up again.

    What a stunning fly. The red floss rib stands out so much in this olive coloured body. I would not of thought to mix those colours. The double hackle aswell adds a amazing effect to. I do like this one a lot. Thanks fir showing us another of your beautiful flys. I myself a avid novice. This is just out my comfort zone.lol lol. I will get there some day. Losts of practice lol.😆😆😆

    Absolutely love this style of mayfly! Love the colors that come from the French partridge and have begun incorporating it more in my own patterns as well. This style, the McPhail may, and the Endrich spider are a few of my recent favorites. I have really spent a ton of time recently focusing on wet flies since the partial finger amputation has healed up enough to allow me to get right back behind the vise, and I’m grateful for the lessons. I feel a bit foolish now for opting to skip them in my personal boxes when I first began putting them together. If nothing else, it’s another excuse to spend more time behind my favorite tool, honing my skills, and anxiously awaiting new fishing adventures. Thanks for all you do my friend!

    Lovely pattern Davie. I've used the nose oil trick for 65 years on lines, flies, reels etc with great success. Sometimes the old ones are the best. Stay safe, all the very best to you and yours for next year. Cheers, Big Davie.

    I have to admit Davie that I often wonder just how many different flies you’ve tied over the years? It must be a very large number! I suspect you’d surprise yourself, if you could count them all, how many there are in your collection! Please be sure..... I’m not asking you to count them! You’d never forgive me! lol Over and above all that, that’s another fine looking pattern. Thank you for another one dude. 😊😊😊

    This is a very old pattern and in the west of Ireland it is known as the ‘Lough Mask Mayfly’. It was always a stock pattern in the shops in Ballinrobe or even Tommy Tucks in Outerhard. The red rib was a good attractor for Mask trout.

    Fantastic work. Was going back a few years to your tie of Fran Betters “Usual” yesterday. Your quality has grown by leaps and bounds since that video. Time to revisit that tie? And his Ausable Bomber as well. Just throwing out ideas. Though all your spiders are near and dear to my heart.

    Very similar to a fly that’s excellent on Corrib To tie just dub the body with hare’s ear rib with Globriite 4 and finish with a natural grey French patridge over the olive partridge.

    I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you. At the point you needed to oil your bobbin... It looked to me as if you might have cut the paper around the thread spool hole. Do you? Does it keep the bobbin feet running only on the spool plastic and not the label paper and maybe smoother? And to say... seeing you wrap hackle with your fingers again is nice. I've never understood how some one watching could not see exactly what you were doing and needed you to use hackle pliers to see well enough. That and tying materials back (as you did with the hackles here) are two of the great things I've learned from you. Mike

    Hi Mike, No the hole was already there though the barcode sticker is normal over the other hole so I remove it as it will get in the way...I'm glad you enjoyed the video and Merry Christmas... All the very best Davie..

    Thanks, Davie. I 'm going to have to look into this. Your Tiemco bobbin feet don't run on the paper label around the edge of the UNI spool hole and my same bobbin do. Maybe I should mess with how I've got my bobbin spring arms are adjusted. And thank you for the Christmas wishes, Davie... Mike

    You make a lot of use of dyed capes. To save a little expense I'm tempted to split a natural grizzle hen cape and die the two halves different shades. When I put this to Nige at Lakeland Fly-tying he was clearly upset at the very idea! Do you find it distorts the "lie" of the feathers at all?

  • @DavieMcPhail

    @DavieMcPhail

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi David, I have split and dyed many of my capes over the years though it is worth keeping one half natural if you don't have another as grizzle especially is a very useful cape to have and maybe this was what he was thinking..All the capes I have dyed are ok and I've never damaged them when dyeing..Merry Christmas.. All the very best Davie

    Hi RAREAUSSIE, I'm sure it would as these are great patterns for the lough especially if you get a good mayfly hatch and if you replaced the tail with olive marabou it would work well for damsel or dragon fly nymph..Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.. All the very best Davie..

    davie, i really enjoy your instruction, but what do YOU mean when you say varnish the terminology may be different in the U.S. it looks like a fingernail polish applicator you are using

  • @DavieMcPhail

    @DavieMcPhail

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Spike Partlow, Nail varnish/polish or lacquer can be used to finish the head of your fly though I have always used the term to finish off your fly with a coat of varnish as this is what was used especially with salmon flies to get a strong and glossy head..I am glad you enjoy the videos and Merry Christmas.. All the very best Davie..

    Hi Rich Grinham, I made a video a few months back on how I prepare the wax so I have attached a link to it for you to see.. Thought I would just do a couple of pieces at a time rather than doing the full disc as I go through a lot more than the average tier due to the amount of flies I tie.. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family as well.. All the very best Davie.. kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4JosJtrd5SaiMo.html
