Thanks for this video, very interesting. I have used Twsbis almost exclusively for writing for many years and am just taking my first drawing class. I started with the Eco and have a couple of those, a 580 and a Mini (not the vac mini). I like to keep a pen in my shirt pocket and switched from the Eco to the Mini because the Mini clips much lower in my pocket and there is no chance it can fall out. Also because you can get a 1.5mm stub for it from non-U.S. sellers such as Cult Pens. I really like the line variation I get with the stub nib, both intentional variation when I turn the pen in a particular direction to get thin, thick or alternating thickness and the semi-random variation that comes with normal writing or drawing pen angles. The 580 mostly stays at home because I don’t like to have to manage a cap that doesn’t post when I am out and about. Had a Twsbi Go but didn’t like the filling system and lack of clip.

You’re welcome. I also work with stub nibs on occasion, and love them. Once you get used to rotating the pen to get the line want, they become a pleasure to work with, and you can get some great line variation.

The TWSBI Mini Vac has a #5 nib, so it will also take the Fountain Pen Revolution Ultraflex Nibs. They are my go to fountain pen for art work.

I noticed you have some blue identifying elastic bands on the TWSBIs in your What's in My Sketching Kit video. Are those orthodontic elastics? Do you recall what size they are? I just bought several TWSBIs and an Ahab as per your recommendations. I can't tell you how helpful your videos have been. I even signed up for your upcoming crosshatching workshop!

Thank you for the kind note and for signing up for my workshop! That’s actually nothing more than strips of blue masking tape. I retrospect I should have bought ECOs in three different colors to distinguish their nib sizes, but this is a workable solution.

Glad I could introduce this pen to you! This video is a few years old, and I’m still using the ECO almost everyday day as part of my sketching kit.

I know many people love it, but I couldn't get used to the sharp threads and the uncomfortable lump in the middle. I love most of the TWSBI lineup, but I don't find myself using it. PenBBS 456 vacuum filler is a better design, in my opinion.

Are the Mini Vac good to go with carbon ink like the ECO is?

  • @mkompan

Yes, and even better than the Eco, because the grip section unscrews, so it's easier to clean.

Thanks! Not a lot of nibs fit into the ECO. You can custom order a custom fude nib for the ECO from FPnibs. You can also fit a #5.5 Flex nib from Fountain Pen Revolution into an ECO with a simple trick. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zp12qraHmtSYk6w.html
