What is the best passport in 2022?
A passport is a key to traveling abroad. However, some of them are considered "stronger" than others. The world's most powerful passports offer the greatest travel freedom. The strongest citizenships allow the holder to enter most countries easily, without extra entry requirements, such as visas. Recently we've published our Nomad Passport Index, and Luxembourg has become a winner.
In this video, Andrew shares two ways to get the world's best passport.

    Hey Andrew: you have commented on the CBI vs RBI differences and discussed lots of RBI's. You seemed particularly interested in Uruguay at one time. One that seems to get unusually significant recognition by other companies/firms in your field is the Curacao Dutch Island "golden visa". It is definitely one of the more/most expensive and least desired tax models (IMHO). Still, would like to see you do an evaluation and/or bullet point break down on Curacao program. Thx

    If you don't have direct male lineage, don't give up quite yet. If your grandparent had direct male lineage, you still qualify through them. You would just have to establish that they had direct male lineage (Article 7 process) and that you are their grandchild (Article 23 process). I just got my Luxembourgish passport in March. I traced my ancestry back to my great-great grandmother. I could have also applied through my great-great-great grandfather through another line of the family. There are great websites and Facebook groups dedicated to this. Luxembourg is a small country, but many Luxembourgers immigrated to the Upper Midwest of the US and the south of Brazil and they had lots of kids. As a result of opening up citizenship by descent in 2008, Luxembourg's population is now 1% American (as of 2020).

    There's 3rd way: Move to Luxembourg, live (spend at least 183 days in a year) there for 5 years - meantime learn local language (germanic dialect) and pass the Sproochentest (language exam) to get LU passport 8 months later. Meantime all tax laws already apply for you as a resident - including 0% Capital Gain tax if asset is held longer than 6 months.

    Hey, Andrew - thanks for the daily content! Have you ever covered the Netherlands' DAFT (Dutch American Friendship Treaty) visa? I'd guess not, since it's specific to Americans only (and your channel has a broader audience), and also the Netherlands isn't the most applicable country to the high-wealth individual looking for low costs and amazing tax savings. But for a regular jerk like me, it appears to be about the easiest path to long term residency and possible citizenship in a well-developed north European country. I'll actually start down that path in about a month and I would love to hear your thoughts about it. Thank you for everything you do!

  • @SabreRyan

    @SabreRyan

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@nitetrekker My own research on the internet suggested that the "start a business" aspect of the visa is merely a technicality, and then that assumption was confirmed once I talked to an expat consulting company based in Amsterdam that helps Americans take advantage of the DAFT. The minimum requirements appear to be that you need to not be a criminal, have enough current income/savings to not become a Dutch hobo, and "invest" about 5K in your business, which equates to putting it in a Dutch business banking account and NEVER letting the amount dip below the 5K - just treat it like a safe holding your money. If you can do that, you get two years in the Netherlands, and then you can renew the visa for another FIVE years, after which you're eligible for residency/citizenship/etc. Since I'm not a criminal and I have the means to sustain myself in the current Dutch economic climate (which is higher costs than most of what is discussed on the Nomad Capitalist channel, of course), the bottom line for me is that I'll be able to spend the next seven years in the Netherlands for about 5K (which I'm actually not losing - just letting it sit in a bank). If you actually DO want to "have a business" in the NL in accordance with this visa, you can do nearly anything - according to one guy online, you can even become like an Uber Eats driver (freelancing in nearly every field is valid). As an American, I just don't see any other visa being quite as simple as this one for long term European residency. I hope this helps!
