Wow! Hannah, you and Ellen are really killing it with your videos lately. I recently watched Ellen podcast with Dr B and I was so moved by that discussion that I literally became vegan over night. It was an enormous soul shaking experience. I watched Cowspiracy and 'What the Health' and discussions by Dr Klapper and I have been completely plant based for 2 weeks now. And I feel amazing! Pains that I have had for years are completely gone and constipation I've had for years is healed. This video on post partum weight is great! I've gained so much weight since I've had my last child and I'm just not myself anymore. Becoming vegan I have already noticed weight loss in just two weeks. I just want to feel good again. I want to feel like myself again. I also had some issues with breastfeeding and struggling with my marriage so I'm wondering if I may be holding onto some trauma that's keeping me from losing weight.

hey, are you aware that a vegan diet lacks Vitamin A, B6, B12, D,F K2, CLA, Carnitine, Carnosine, cholesterol, CoQ10, creatine, heme-iron, saturated fat and taurine? Also that shipping exotic fruits and veg and mono cropping IS way worse for the environment and kills more animals than buying from a local farmer or homesteading? Also the latter is better for your human health.

Interestingly, I lost all my pregnancy weight immediately at birth, but then gained weight throughout the first 1.5 years postpartum, as I no longer had as much time as I did prior to becoming a mother to exercise and eat as nutritionally. I find it’s really hard to take as good care of myself now that I have a baby. Thanks for this important video Hannah!

As a hairstylist I always say it to new moms, whether I’ve noticed or not, because I feel like a lot of them don’t feel amazing about how they look after and I just want to hype them up. Cause a lot of people sadly just don’t feel like they look good after.

I think with the “you look great” comments sometimes they can mean you look put together, awake, hair brushed etc etc rather than you look skinny or fit. So the comments are talking more about the way you’re presented rather than your actual body shape. Still a totally unwarranted comment but when people say “great” they’re possibly trying to correlate you’re doing a good job adjusting to motherhood with how you look. I don’t know if that makes any sense!

People were more invested in my bouncing back...I can relate to this so much! I was 56 kg (168 cm) when I became pregnant, and 60 kg after a month postpartum. My grandma (who is actually overweight) gave me weight loss recipes 6-7 weeks pp. :D It was so surreal. And I think I never recieved so many comments about my weight since I had my baby- but they are actually coming from a good place, they are trying to reassure me that I look good and thin even though I never say anything about it, I'm just here enjoying the moment and besides that taking my time to heal, get fit again and stay healthy.

Even if you don’t think you’re hard on yourself you probably are. This whole video was perfect 🖤

I wonder how/whether trauma directly affects body weight. I’ve certainly noticed that some people I know have had weight gain/could not lose weight after trauma; sometimes, to the point of longterm obesity (in spite of eating a fairly healthy diet). However, I wonder whether the body holding onto fat is directly due to trauma, or if trauma leads to other factors which in turn lead to weight gain/difficult weight loss. For instance, many people, in reaction to trauma, struggle to sleep well, eat a lot of ‘comfort food’ (which is usually calorically dense) - even binge, drink alcohol, smoke marijuana, and/or become more sedentary. I wonder if there are any studies on the subject, isolating these things. If a person, who experienced trauma related weight gain (and subsequently tried and failed to lose that weight) was somehow, through an intervention, able to stop drinking and smoking, adopt a WFPB diet, and sleep well, would he still struggle to lose that weight if the underlying trauma wasn’t processed and resolved?

I feel like society as a whole can definitely tend to be superficial and obsessive over looks. If we can remain focused on overall health we shouldn’t have to focus in on weight so much, rather how we feel and function daily. I personally have come far in my own healing journey of OCD/perfectionism within my body and food… it all clicked for me when (as you pin pointed) I dove deep in my traumas and was actually diagnosed with PTSD from a childhood disease I experienced and overcame as well as extreme narcissistic abuse from my ex husband. Everyday is easier and easier because I’ve learned myself more and give myself grace. Love this video Hannah, speaks volumes!

I had 3 kids and grew 20+ kilos every time but about how I lost that weight: I literally have NO idea. It never popped up on my radar, it was not on my priority list, excersize was about walking around with 3 kids in diapers, there was lack of sleep and trying to survive spiritually and physically. But then this was 30 years ago. Veganism and eating healthy didn’t realy matter… and to be honoust I am grateful that it never was an issue. Because suddenly the kids were out of their diapers, taking themselves for a walk - leaving me waiting at the door. And I realized I was too skinny. So I started to eat more and probably better.

Throughout my pregnancy and after birth people would comment on my body, almost in a congratulatory way, because I hadn’t gained much weight, like it was something within my control, when I don’t believe it is! It would make me very uncomfortable and still does went people comment on my body now that I’m a mum.

I totally get what you mean about feeling more confident post pregnancy/birth, BUT for me, that kind of a weird or not a surprise. I had just lost about 150lbs when I found out I was pregnant and was even still losing healthfully during pregnancy. And once I lost that initial "baby weight," and these last several months after, it's been the first time in my life iv been a healthier weight and size. Also, iv gotten the opportunity to really see the results of having gotten to a healthier point in my life as now my 10-month-old is RUNNING NON STOP, and I actually have the energy for it. So absolutely I love this body that now, after having lost the weight, I was finally able to get pregnant and have the energy and strength for it. I feel beautiful in soooo many ways now

I would like to add. Being disciplinied is nothing bad. It's actually amazing thing. Eating healthy and not counting calories doesn't have to do with discipline but with interest in choices of food we make. Discipline doesn't have to be connected necessarily with food choices but if that helps someone at the beginning, it's nothing bad about. My experience with clean plant based eating is that you stop craving all crap of food, and your taste for food changes. Even though I grow up where my mom was cooking all the time. I didn't grow up in the USA where eating fries and hamburgers is a normal thing. But I stil experienced in my puberty wanting to eat sweets with my best friends and have sugar coma :) but after a while I saw that's not good for me and I feel like crap after eating that. I just had awareness from early on for my health. My parents have also big influence in that since they were teaching me to appreciate fruits, cooked meals etc....

I lost my weight after first pregnancy after 4 months. I did a lot of walking with my newborn, started swimming after 4 weeks and did yoga. Sport and plant based diet is my life style. I didn't do all of that to lose weight but to feel good and be active with my baby. We would go to nature so baby can enjoy it as well. I also did feel better in my skin after delivery. Maybe that has to do with a mental state after becoming a parent and not with numbers on scale. I'm now in my second pregnancy and have few more weeks until delivery. I'm heavy to myself :) last weeks of pregnancy are always hard because everything in the body hurts :) I also think Hana, that's weird how people comment someones body and why is that important. No wonder why there are so many eating disorders outthere. I hear compliments in pregnancy like, hey you look good today and I say, should I look bad or what? It's almost like if you are pregnant or after delivery you are supposed to look bad etc

I feel it could also be excess skin, from being stretched during pregnancy, depending on how much weight was gained duringpregnancy. so ppl feel they hVe that 'pouch' appearance.. Also, did you have a c section or natural? Ab separation can still give the illusion of a pot belly look. So all things to consider. Tbh, my mid section is just the 1 area that never went 💯 per cent back to normal, post 2 kids-2 years on from my last baby. Even though during pregnancies I gained no more then 5-8kgs in total, no stretch marks, i am a personal trainer, so I train daily etc. Some women are lucky to go back to looking the same afterwards in that area but others potentially take years to get back or never 🤷‍♀️ acceptance and confidence can be 🔑

I want to be vegan but everytime I start my stomach and gallbladder hurt so bad and I get a lot of digestive issues which then causes a lot of anxiety. I love beans but I'm finding they may be the reason also pasta, bread and I couldn't even tell you what else. I tried to eliminate those and still ended up in pain!! It makes me want to scream! When I ate Keto I had zero pain or digestive issues so I know it's not my gallbladder. I do not want to eat Keto and I feel so stressed and upset. I had my first child at 19 and I was ideal weight with zero food issues but gained a ton while pregnant and never got myself back to feeling like me again. My oldest is an adult now. I will love my body at it's current weight if I KNOW I am eating the best for my body but like I said, when I do start to eat the way I want to eat (vegan) I have so much pain and it's really harmed my relationship with my body because it's not working with me on this and the heart palpitations and pain means my body is trying to tell me something and doctors really are at a loss but have not done food sensitivity tests. I didn't think I would get so emotional writing this! I've developed PCOS after my second child and digestive issues and a lot of constant pain right before my third pregnancy. Keto has been the only way for me to eat with no pain but I just can't make myself eat like that! So for over 13 yrs I've dealt with chronic pain and swelling of both my gallbladder and stomach. If it really flares up, I will eat chicken and keto veggies until it calms down a bit which within days the pain goes away.

Hi friend, what you describe sounds like IBS. Sometimes IBS can flare up especially during triggering times like pregnancy. Foods that are high FODMAP like legumes, garlic, onion, wheat, rye, and barley can be very triggering to people with IBS. Keto is low FODmap so it makes sense that this may ease your discomfort. I encourage you to seek a dietitian that can help you narrow down your trigger foods so you can find a sense of relief in the cause of your discomfort, Dr's can refer you to one so it's covered by insurance.
