Black rockfish fall in the category of “pelagic” species of rockfish and are moderately long lived species. Most fish you catch are around 7-30 years old in Alaska. If the max recorded length for a Black was 27.6 inches and yours was a solid 20, I would speculate your fish is around 21-25 years old. As fish progress in age, they tend to focus more of their energy towards reproductive fitness as opposed to trying to get bigger like younger fish. This is just a guess lol. If you really want to age your fish you can extract the ear bone (otoliths) out of your fish and try to count the rings.

In this dark moment, I brought up KZread to watch old videos since I had been all caught up, and to my surprise - a brand new video. Now I get to forget about the bad. Always be thankful, even for your life challenges, they become lifes lessons learned, and it will make you confident that whatever comes up, will be another life lesson learned. In the end, without money and material, EVERYBODY is equal!!!!! Look at what this pandemic has brought! People are living simple lives now, camping, fishing, riding bikes and actually spending time with family being overall happier. It has brought busy life do’ers, workaholics etc.... back to every mans beginnings which is nature and simplicity. People never realized how therapeutic and wonderful nature is...ive been on that dark side, friend. Whatever challenge you have been and are facing, NEVER EVER forget you ARE special, this is a crazy world we live, someone needs you.......

Our grand business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at our hands." Times may be difficult now but as others say: "Life is good as long as you're still here and will be here tomorrow." When I had se very difficult times I first turned to self destructive behaviors but then turned towards self improvement and philosophy. I am near the end of these difficult times but am still working on it. I hope you may find something that helps you very soon.

I believe I read a page about longest living animals and rockfish were like 7 out of the 25, they take a long time to grow. Some live to over 100 years old. I wouldn't doubt that big one was 30+ years old. I'm not certain at all man but I suggest releasing the small and large rockfish you catch, try to keep the medium sized. Small get to grow to breed and large breed more and have better genetics. Just a thought my man, nothing wrong with keeping a big one every once in a while. but if you ever get into a bunch of large sized fish let most of the big ones go. Your videos are awesome, I think I've followed you at least three years and your videos are some of the best I've seen. Best west coast fishing channel I follow by far. Keep it up man, I appreciate it, you inspire me to fish more and maybe someday do a west coast fishing trip. PS. Do a little research on the fish in your area regarding their age/size relation. It'll help make those decisions a lot easier because I am no expert at all. Everything I said could be wrong because trusting the internet is pretty iffy lol

@@turinreza I agree, however if you increase the amount of aluminium in your body and using aluminium utensils or foil for cooking can contribute to that, the body can't discard all of the extra accumulated aluminium=unhealthy amount of aluminium in your body which can have negative effects in a long run. And that can happen with other metals too like mercury,copper,zinc...etc. I'm only saying that people need to be weary of those things and not make assumptions. Go,do a proper research and then speak.

Aluminum oxide has been linked to alzheimer's. Although that news doesn't sit well with many corporations using aluminum and so the waters have been muddied in that case. The sad part is that aluminum oxide is the active ingredient in most deodorants in use today. Yeah Banana leaves are excellent for cooking. My mom makes tamales using the leaves as a casing.

Aluminum oxide in deodorant and other body products is only dangerous if you have kidney problems. As long as you have good kidneys to filter it out of your body you’re fine.
