MAMA is a Debut Song and there are 2 pre-debut singles (What is love, and History) :) If you watched to CONCEPT TRAILER that was released few days ago, you'll see the tree of life is burning and the red force is taking over. EXO having clones called X-EXO :) can't wait for their comeback this Nov. 27

If u paid attention to the SuperM's Baekhyun and Kai's teasers. You see in Baekhyun's teaser that there are lights (his power in EXO is light) and in Kai's teaser, you see that a car almost fell on Kai but he teleported (Kai's power in EXO is teleportation) And what I love about EXO, they are using their superpower concept in their concerts. Like EXO'rdium concert, It won Concert Of The Year because of the superpower concept.

okay so this was their debut so the story at the beginning is the base for all of the exo concepts and it connects most to this new comeback although they utilize the powers selectively in other music videos too. Each symbol at the beginning represents one of the 12 original members and their powers that they debuted with which are depicted in the mv in the individual shots. If you remember when people were talking about SuperM powers, Baek and Kai kept their same powers from this debut.

So, this was EXO's debut song. They were initially divided in 2 different sub-groups, with 6 members each EXO-K : Suho Baekhyun D.O. Chanyeol Kai and Sehun EXO-M : Kris Luhan Tao Lay Chen and Xiumin EXO-K performed the songs in Korean and EXO-M did the same songs in Mandarin. That's why the Korean and Chinese versions have 6 members each. All 12 of them have powers, someone already wrote about that in another comment.

This was one of the most unique debuts I’ve ever seen. Even after all this time, this song is still super unique. Bop.

Exo’s concept is so confusing that when I first learned about them I didn’t want to get into them because of it. There is so much lore and theories I have no idea what is going on with the whole ‘red force’ thing but I think most of their MV’s are connected with that somehow. And it seems like their new song will be too. As for the EXO-K vs EXO-M, I’m not super familiar but I believe they originally split them up so that one half could promote in Korea (K) and the other could promote in China (M) for the same songs. As members left though, they kinda had to reevaluate and basically get rid of the 2 groups. (because 3 of the Chinese members of exo-m left. They only have one Chinese member left (Lay💕) and he doesn’t even get to be part of exo songs anymore😭) I do remember reading a whole thing about how their comebacks were connected to real dates of solar/lunar eclipses too. It was wild.

When you see the members all together in the "Mama" MV they are together because they are still on Planet EXO where they are still untied. But when you see them separated it is when they have all been sent to Earth. As part of their story, when they first arrived on Earth they each were dropped in different locations all over the world and what you see in the "Mama" MV is the members are searching for each other and they are using their powers to try and summon and find each other. They keep flashing back and forth between present moments and past moments. So how I interpret it is that at the end they aren't "back together" but that is a scene from when they were still on EXO Planet as they are preparing to be sent to Earth. The two worlds the narrator talks about in the introduction could possibly be different dimensions, so you often see parts of their story which could be interpreted as them being in different dimensions or time periods or different moments in history. So not only are the stories in each MV not in chronological order, but even the storyline within the story may be showing multiple time periods or dimensions that connect different parts of different MVs together, etc. To really begin to understand what is happening within the storyline in EXO's MVs you might want to look up some fan theory videos or websites. For "Mama" I recommend reiyezerwyreembrace.wordpress.com/2015/03/22/kpoplife-exo-kings-of-concept-pt-2/ This page does a pretty good job of explaining the story within "Mama" and it gives some detail about the thought process behind why and how the story is set up, which might help you to start to understand how to begin to intemperate the story in future MVs. Its kind of a skill you have to develop to remember details and to understand how SM lays out clues and what they may be trying to explain by having the members do certain things or show them in specific situations, etc. EXO's story is just one giant mystery and its up to fans to try and figure it out. And now, with the creation of SuperM, it seams as if SM intends to expand that storyline to include its other groups. For example, I think WayV's recent MV for "Moon Walk" is somehow connected to SuperM's storyline, which means that it is also somehow connected to EXO's larger storyline. But what you should know is that its all just fan theories that the majority of fans agree makes the most sense with the information we have collected so far, but none of it has ever been confirmed by SM. We only hope that some day SM will come out with a movie or book or something that will explain things and let us know if what we thought was correct or not.

If i'm not mistaken SM will come out with a book about the whole story of EXO around 2023 (info from twitter). And that year EXO's already finished their contract with SM (10 years) and all of them already finished their duty in military. But, we never know what will happen...EXO is unpredictable

When you watch their other MVs like "kokobop" or even "miracles in December", you can see their powers sometimes. Also you can see their worlds coming together as, for example, the mirror was wiped and the members suddenly changed. They were in the same coin (or place) but were split on different sides until they came together via a supernatural event. That's kinda a nutshell version and I'm sure another exo-l can explain better. "Miracles in December" utilized Tao's ability, for example. Don't wanna say much more because Deacs totally needs to see if since winter is coming up fast. By the way, EXO has some of the BEST winter albums of any artist I've seen in my years as a kpop fan and I follow a ton of groups. Their vocals are perfect for that winter feeling.

This song is literally the ringtone on my mobile. I had the sound on on the bus and suddenly it rang and "Careless careless" started and people started staring at me.

So SM does this thing w/ their boy groups where they’ll make a really big group but break them into subunits. For SuperJunior & EXO they made one group to focus in Korea & do Korean music & one to focus on China promotions & sing in Mandarin. That’s also why they created WayV for NCT. The only group that they didn’t make big & break into sub units was SHINee. EXO, however, had 3 of their Chinese members leave (Luhan, Kris, & Tao) so they consolidated the group & will make Chinese versions of albums w/ all the members.

Luhan is ONE of THEEE prettiest men alive. BUT HE IS MANLY I SWEAR

Something I've for a long time thought, is that Lay's powers of healing are kinda ironic (I don't know if that's the right words to use). If you don't know, he actually suffers from hemophilia, a blood disorder, that prevents his blood from clotting. This means that even small injuries can be quite serious, since the bleeding can be difficult to stop. Just thought this was an interesting thought, that his powers are healing, when his body has trouble healing itself.

Idk about u all, but the first time I saw Chen's symbol I thought it was a scorpion. To this day I still think its more like a scorpion than a lightning bolt. Their new/adapted symbols are more simplified but I think Sehun's looks like a crane/bird in flight/wings, and Chanyeol's sometimes looks like a foot- more specifically his symbol reminds me of the scene in Mama MV when fire blazes at his feet with every step.

i think the Chinese version might have less views cause in China KZread is not available (or at least this is what i heard from other people), and like, the Chinese version would be watched wayyy more times if Chinese people would be able to stream

To understand all the symbolism in *EXO* 's mvs you should know about their power, the red force, the eclipse, their clones, so the fight between *EXO* & *X-EXO* will began in the 6th album *Obssession*

Maybe there is already explained but here we go: The Powers of EXO-M and EXO-K are mirrored but they aren't the same. So the other half of Kai's Teleportation (space manipulation) would be Tao's Time Control and so on (if you look the wheel of powers at the beginning you will see it -each power has his brother on the other side of the wheel-). They were born simultaneously but of a different side of the tree and the legend says they can not exist at the same time in the same space except when there's an eclipse. You can see the eclipse on the teasers pre-debut (that is what awakes the dormant powers once on earth). Also a lot of music releases happened on eclipses (I remember being at Korea one year and realize one was about to happen and think "Ok, today we will have some EXO stuff" And Yep, they uploaded a teaser XD) The theory I have is that then the story was made thinking on the 2 groups M and K but now that we have 6 active members we will see the counterpart on the X-EXO members that were created by the Red Force (the one who destroyed the tree of live). Cause all of the MVs, Concert VCRs, Pathcode Teasers, Wolf Drama and Shows VCRs (like VCR before they perform on MAMA Award).. Please if u are confused but interested, watch some theories :)

So originally the concept of the two worlds was exo-k and exo-m but it's changed since we've lost 3 members into all of exo and x-exo which is what obsession is supposed to be about

Did you know that in Korean MAMA is a term they use to address a leader or King or queen? Its a term of reverence and respect. It's similar to saying "Your majesty." If you watch very many historical Korean dramas you will hear the characters call the royal family and especially the head of the royal family or leader "Mama." So in this song they are speaking to the leader or deity who sent them to Earth, essentially asking, "Now that I'm here, Your Majesty what should I do? How do I fulfill what you have sent me to do? etc." EXO debuted in 2012 so "Mama" is indeed their debut song and MV and the whole point of the MV is to introduce the world to EXO and to help explain their concept and origin story. As you saw, from the very beginning EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet EXO and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one if not all of them using their powers. Exo, as in exoskeleton, means "outer," so as a member of EXO they are outside the ordinary.The group's concept comes from the real term exoplanet, which is a term that is used for a planet that is outside our solar system, so their name was chosen to represent the fact that they are stars that are "out of this world" when it comes to their talents. EXO's concept is also connected to real life planetary and solar events so all of EXO's comebacks and new song releases for the main group of EXO are all connected to when eclipses and other planetary phenomenons take place. For example, when they had a comeback for their "War" album and "Power" album it coincided with when we had a solar eclipse, etc. SM Entertainment and its founder, Lee Soo-Man, has all their release dates and concepts planned out for years and it all has something to do with real celestial events that are predicted to take place. In order to really understand EXO, you also need to keep in mind that in the beginning there was 12 members and they were split up into 2 groups EXO-K and EXO-M. So to really understand their full origin story you have to watch both the K and the M version of "Mama,." As you have now seen, even though both the K and M version of "Mama" shows all 12 of the members, the K version focuses on the K members and their powers and the M version focuses on the M members and their powers. (Now that you know a little more about EXO's backstory you will probably start to understand more of why EXO does the things they do and what makes them so special.) However, since then, as you know, 3 of the 4 Chinese members have left the group (short answer to focus on their solo work back in China) but there is still one Chinese member left, Lay. (Any performances or MVs you watch that took place prior to May 2014 you will see all 12 of the members. Kris and Luhan left in 2014 and Tao left in 2015.) However, now, because they no longer have enough Chinese members they no longer do separate promotions where the group is split up, but they still produce all their MVs and main songs in both Korean and Mandarin they just now promote all as one big group EXO with 9 members. So not only does EXO have amazing MVs, but its always double because any time they have a Korean version they also will have a Mandarin version so it means they have to shoot two separate videos.Their fandom name is EXO-L because L falls right between K and M and it stands for Love. 😍 Get it? EXO-K, EXO-L, EXO-M (K-L-M in the alphabet) In the EXO-K version the members are using their powers to search for and meet up with the M members. That is why you see the K members traveling to find the M member. For example, you see Kai using his power of teleportation as he searches for the M members and you see Baekhyun use his power of light and Suho with his power of water, Chanyeol with the power of fire using his Phoenix wings, D.O. with the power of earth and strength and Sehun controlling the wind. Because Xiumin is one of the two Korean members of EXO-M, you see him appear in the mirror in the EXO-K version because the K members are searching for him and he is being summoned, etc. As the story goes, when EXO arrived on Earth they did not all arrive together. Their story starts out that they were dropped on Earth in different locations all over the world and they have to search for each other and meet up, kind of like in a quest, before they can begin to figure out how to accomplish the tasks they have been sent to Earth to do. In the EXO-M version of "Mama" you see the M members use their powers to signal the K members and travel to them, etc. Each of the members in EXO-K has a counterpart in EXO-M, so part of what you were seeing in this MV was them showing you which EXO-K member corresponded with which EXO-M member. For example, Suho (EXO-K) with the power of water corresponds with Xiumin (EXO-M) who has the power of frost/ice and Chanyeol (EXO-K) with the power of fire is Kris' (EXO-M) counterpart because he is the power of flight, and as you see in the EXO-M MV, Chanyeol has the power of the phoenix and Kris has the power of the dragon which both animal spirits have fire elements and flight so they connect; D.O. with the power of force and Chen with the power of thunder/lightning; and Sehun who has the power of wind is connected to Tao who controls time; Baekhyun with the power of light and Lay with the power of healing; and Kai with teleportation and Luhan with telekinesis; etc. That's how they maintain their bond even as members of separate groups. Also, each member in EXO-K has a counterpart in EXO-M that fills the same role in each group. (Everything EXO does is just one hidden message after another.) Now that you have seen "Mama" and are starting to understand EXO's backstory, if you watch any of their other MVs, such as their "Power" MV, it should make more sense to you. if you keep in mind all the details about them being aliens with super powers and how they are on a mission, etc. For example, the "Power" MV is all about how the Red Forces stole EXO's powers and they had to fight the robot, which was under the Red Forces control, to get their powers back. And once they got their powers back they were then sent to Earth. The one thing you have to keep in mind with all of EXO's MVs, and I really mean all of them -- including their sub-unit and solo projects, and now even SuperM content -- is that they are all connected and they all tell a little more of EXO's story and why they are on Earth, etc. Understanding "Mama' should help you understand their "Ko Ko Bop" MV better as well. ("Ko Ko Bop" is supposed to be about them just arriving on Earth and learning to master their powers.) Some theories connect the story in their "Lucky One" MV to the story in "Ko Ko Bop." In "Lucky One" EXO has been captured by the the Red Forces or some authority and they are doing experiments on EXO to try and figure out what makes them special. In "Lucky One" the EXO members use their powers to escape the facility. So some theories say that the story in "Ko Ko Bop" is EXO trying to detox from the drugs they were given in the government facility and the blue Ko Ko Bop drink Shuo mixes and the members drink is to counteract the effects of the drugs in their system. That is why the members act so out of it and in a drugged state in "Ko Ko Bop." Unfortunately each part of the story is not in chronological order, so we as EXO-L have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of all of their teasers, MVs, songs lyrics, albums, choreography and even live performances and piece it all together to understand the story behind it all. To help you pinpoint the powers being used in their MVs and live performances here is a list of the members and what their special power is. The members powers are: EXO-K Suho (Kim Jun Myeo): water (Fun fact: Suho in Korean means guardian, as in the guardian of EXO. That's why as the leader of EXO, his stage name is Suho.) Baekhyun: Light Chanyeo : fire D.O (Do KyungSoo): earth (dirt) which gives him strength/force Kai (Kim JongIn): teleportation (Kai means door or gateway in Korean so his stage name symbolizes his role within EXO's storyline.) Sehun: Wind EXO-M Xiumin (Kim MinSeok): snow/ice (frost) Lay (Zhang Yixing): healing Chen (Kim JongDae): thunder/lightning/electricity (As you can see, Xiumin and Chen were given stage names that sounded more Chinese so they would fit in better in EXO-M because they are the Korean members of the Chinese group) The Chinese members that are no longer part of the group: Kris: Flight (He was the leader of EXO-M) Luhan: telekinesis (control things with his mind) Tao (Z. Tao): Controlling time. (He was the martial artist of the group so he was the one that did the flips and stunts in EXO's routines.)

"Mama" still remains the most legendary and expensive debut song in the Kpop history. The song introduces the basic concept of EXO, we call it EXO theory: who they are, where they are from, what the super power of each members are, etc.

You should also look up the lyrics for "Mama." The majority of their chant is in English: "Shoot anonymous, anonymous ; Heartless, mindless; No one who care about me ... Careless, careless (Mama: Mama in Korean means Your Majesty); Shoot anonymous, anonymous (Mama); Heartless, mindless (Mama); No one who care about me (Mama)" Also if you learn what the whole song is talking about and what the lyrics mean it will give you even more insight into why EXO have been sent to Earth and what their mission is all about. Its all about how EXO has been sent to try and heal the world and to stop and prevent the Red Force from taking over and corrupting everything. It's really a very beautiful message. In the song the members, being aliens from another planet, are struggling to understand how we as humans could allow all this evil and bad things to happen all around us, such as War, etc. and they are daunted by the fact that they are now tasked with figuring out how to fix it all and prevent more evil from taking place. That's why they need to find the two halves of the Tree of Life and reunite them to restore peace. EXO's story is part supernatural and Sci-Fi and part based on reality which touches on real life events and things that are really happening in the world. And from the very beginning, even during pre-debut days -- and everything since then, and everything yet to come -- is connected to that storyline. Everything EXO does and everything you see from them, including Baekhyun and Kai's parts in SuperM all has something to do with the concept and story that began with "Mama," and each new installment of something from the members expands a little further on EXO's story. Whether it be an MV from the group, a solo project from one of the members, a sub-unit project, a live performance, teaser videos, concert VCRs, or even a good amount of their choreography, it all has been designed to connect to EXO's storyline.

DON’T SLEEP ON EXO-M PEOPLE!!! I really wish both sub-units were recognized equally since they both sound so good! ❤️ (Personally I prefer the mandarin version tho just because it sounds better to my ears)

Most people only like the Korean versions which is sad because the Chinese versions are just as good. And EXO-M deserves just as much love as EXO-K

This song is their debute. And yes, this mv tell about how EXO created and the beginning story when they come down to the earth bc they're introduced as aliens (with superpowers). From this mv till the last one, they're keep learning about how earth works and experiences so many things. This mv told you that there're 2 worlds, same but different. And that worlds occupied by EXO-K and EXO-M. We're fans are in the middle of them which named EXO-L. They're in the different world but still connected. The conflict of the whole story is, EXO being tested by "red forces" which explained in the Lucky One MV after they're caught in the Monster (and maybe in Lotto MV). And the trailer video of the upcoming comeback, they have a concept that EXO has been cloned. That's why there're 2 new accounts of Twitter and Insta that show 2 kinds of EXO members. The original and the clone one. It means the story still continues.

EXO are meant to be 'aliens' from the EXOPlanet. They are the guardians of the Tree of Life and protect it from The Red force. The tree was split in two parts which is why there is EXO-K and EXO-M to protect both parts. Even if it isn't obvious, this story line is present in most of their MVs, e.g in Monster it is believed that they are fighting against the red force and in Lucky One they have been captured by it and are trying to escape. It is also thought that the red cube in Tempo represents the red force as well. Their new comeback concept is EXO vs X-EXO it is believed that while they were captured by the Red Force in Lucky One, they were cloned and now are going to fight their evil clones

It's been 9 years since it came out and I'm still explaining the new theory to a new exo-l lol. Legends. as an exo-l who has been greatly helped by explanations through KZread, I would be happy in my turn to explain as well. So exo debuted in the concept of a group split into 2 sub-groups, each promoting the same things in a differnt country and a different language. Lee Soo-Man: Founder of SM.Ent and their producer (currently the major shareholder of the SM and entrepreneur and music producer including producer of Suepr-m) - dreamed for years (at least since 1997) of a group that would be divided into sub-groupa and promote in several places simultaneously, he was interested in giving them a mysterious concept. He is the one who also gave them the stage names. The concept is 12 gods who came from another planet - ExoPlanet - they fight against the ''red porce'' that tries to take over the tree of life, and they do it with the help of the unique powers that each of them has. So they divided the protection of the tree of life into 2 parts. To parallel worlds similar but inverted, as the intro says.(that intro - A LAGENDARY!) There are parallel-kind-of worlds / Symbiotic worlds. There will be times when the gods will stand together on the same earth but will see different sky and vice versa, that is to say they complement each other. Exo promoted in China and Korea together or/and separately as Exo-K and Exo-M. (Exo Planet is a real astrological thing of a planet that has lost its orbit. Yes this is their debut. This MV will help you understand their concept. You'll understand their new concept trailer for this comeback more. EXO-K and EXO-M are living in a parallel universe. As explained in the intro. The 12 forces are divided into 2 and travelled apart to protect the Tree of life from their enemy the red force. If you watch EXO's concept trailer for Obsession, you'll see that the red force created another EXO version. Obsession's concept will be EXO fighting against X-EXO. As for the storyline, you were mostly right! Basically in the lore, the exo members are aliens with superpowers from "exo planet". Together, the 12 of them make up the "Tree of Life". However, they are pursued by an evil force called the "Red Force". Threatened, they were forced to break the tree apart by separating. 6 of the members went to one side (exo-k) and 6 of the members went to the other side (exo-m). This is represented through the MVs, as you had guessed! The exo-k mvs are all sung by the exo-k members (Suho, Chanyeol, Baekhyun, Kyungsoo (D.O.), Sehun, and Kai). The exo-m mvs are all sung by the exo-m members (Chen, Xiumin, Tao, Kris, Luhan and Lay). The songs and choreo are exactly the same, but it's just sang by different people in a different language, just as with Regular by NCT. Both mvs feature snippets with all 12 members, or part that remain the same between both mvs, but there are also scenes that are unique to THAT version only, which is why we wanted you to watch both versions. The exo-m version highlights the 6 exo-m member powers and, of course, is sang by members you don't get to hear in the exo-k one only. Another thing you were right on: the scenes that are horizontally mirrored do represent the two different members on their opposite universes! For example, the one with the big fiery explosions? The top half is exo-k member Chanyeol who is showcasing his power of fire with his symbol, the phoenix. On the bottom half, exo-m member Kris mirrors Chanyeol with his fire-breathing dragon. Yessss. This is EXO’s debut song, but they have 2 pre-debut song (what is love and history) So, EXO-K singing in Korean and EXO-M singing in Mandarin. EXO originally divided into these 2 subunits and to promote at the same time in Korea and China with same song. EXO’s concept was revealed here. Them having powers from EXO planet. Each of them has their own power. EXO has the best concept ever and the good thing here is since debut upto now they’re still incorporating their power concept on their music videos which is so cool and awesome. Every comeback they have teasers which you can incorporate to their concept too and it is connected to each other, you can see that there’s a lot of theories EXOLs made and it was so fun reading them all. I mean EXO power concept is awesome but EXOLs being detectives are cool too.

to clarify some stuff for you, since as you learn about exo’s concept it’s a lot haha this is exo’s debut! their concept is that the original 12 members are from exo planet and each member has their own unique powers. exo used to be spilt into exo-k (korean) and exo-m (chinese), and 6 members in each. they were still one group, but would promote separately at the time, so they would have a korean and chinese ver of the same songs/mvs basically. then, after many of the chinese members left T__T, the rest of exo-m joined with exo-k, into one group with 9 members, exo, as you know them today! :)

Mvs, comeback teasers, concert vcrs, award show vcrs, they have a short comic book in one of their album. But also you should know that some of the original story line was changed since members left.
