The only one able to survive is either someone "equal" famous or someone who is not connected on social media, has no trouble with stalking at all and is full on independent. I was really into figure skating for a while. Yuzuru Hanyu (Japan) is also a BTS fan and a legend in his own right. Last summer he happily told everyone he just married the love of his life: a "civilian". So original, so creative and a great song. I totally get the idea that when you are alone it’s easy to feel lonely and overwhelmed by the idea that everyone else is blissfully coupled up, and also to being in love and in a “love bubble” but at the end, when he’s interacting with himself I think it alludes to the idea of self-sufficiency (you don’t need to be in a relationship to be happy) and loving yourself before you can have a successful relationship with someone else.

Interesting to hear your takes. I think it’s open to many interpretations. My take? Life/dream 1: the perception of the world when you’re lonely and wishing you had someone = why is everyone in a relationship but me? Why does everyone but me have somebody? Life/dream 2: You’re so in love and look around you and believe that yours is the only perfect relationship, everyone else’s is flawed. Both perceptions of the world are extremes and both perceptions of the world are incorrect and unhealthy. And both lead to tragedy. When V wakes the final time, he realises the ultimate truth: the only way to be content is to love yourself.

yes, my thought as well! For the MV at least :) for the lyrics my remaining question is, whether there is somebody in V’s life that he’s been friends with since 2009 and if this is a specific love confession? The 2009 reference is so specific…

If it’s correct that Big Hit said it’s a “confession song,” maybe they are trying to send the message that life is short and you should go for what you want…express your love, take a chance, etc. He is dreaming in both scenarios; the first one he’s alone, sad, annoyed and dies, never having attempted to make more of the friendship. In the second scenario, maybe he “went for it” and the friendship developed into something more, yet he still dies …but ..dies with a big smile on his face. When he wakes up from this dream, he smiles, maybe as if to say, “I’m going to go for it.” So many theories running through my head that have already been mentioned. I also like the interpretation that we need to love ourselves first!

one of the many things I love about his voice is it's versatility, how he can pull off any genre and is never boring or ordinary, also the way he turns his deep voice into a totally clean high note is awesome, Taehyung you are so talented 🤍 I'm obsessed!

Love your sense of humor. What a fun friendship you seem to have with Levi. I’ve watched this so many times and as usual, don’t really know what’s going on. I’m 73, married and divorced twice, in another 14 year relationship that fizzled out… by no means an expert, but I get the feeling that throughout all of life’s experiences, you are truly just with yourself. No matter what, you can love and count on yourself. Our perspectives may change with our circumstances but in the end, you are what is constant and what endures. Taehyung is a really unique soul. Aren’t we lucky to be alive at the same time as BTS? 😊 P.S. You can feel confident knowing that many of us agree with your “ clickbait” title 😉

Y'all made V's video even more fun! I think V made a very serious comment in a fun way. As we are maturing in life, we think we have to find someone to be with in order to be "complete." But being with someone else is not easy, especially when we haven't learned to Love Ourselves First! And that is what V shows us at the very end. Learn about yourself and love yourself. Sometimes I feel like BTS's grasshopper lol.

I just love Tae's take on things. His music is always sublime but he always is able to come up with a unique take on things. I know this is not all him but he always puts in his two cents worth on how he wants something to look or gives the Concept and says run with that. Old soul definitely and one heck of a gorgeous I man. I think you should listen and watch his layover album in order (it is meant to be heard and watched that way) I'm thinking that fri(end)s could possibly be the last song 🤷‍♀️not sure but who knows.

I think the MV has 3 alternate stories about after we 'ended' the friendship 1. Scenario one, we lost our friend after we ended the friendship 2. Scenario two, our relationship goes to the next level (romantic relationship) after we ended the friendship 3. As is usual, V (and BTS as a group) gives us an ambiguous mv. We can take our own feelings & experiences and overlay them on the what the hell is this about video. Plus we get great vocals and a cool song. A triumph.

I think the MV is saying that, as good as it may seem, any relationship can end (for a variety of reasons). In the end, the one who will always be with you - is you. So learn to be happy with yourself, and find peace in your own company. I think the MV is a continuation of so many BTS songs about loving yourself.💜 The meaning of the song can be different though. The song does seem to speak about the confusion when feelings for a friend can deepen, or when you feel like that friend's feelings have changed in someway. And that can through your finely balanced sense of order into chaos.💜 Either way, I love both the song and MV. 💜

The best thing about Taehyung's songs/MVs is, they always leave you with wanting more and more. Thought provoking, intellectually stimulating and with great music they are whole experiences.

The main point of the song is that V wants to go beyond the friend zone and progress to a more romantic relationship. I think BigHit or the media described it as a "confession song." Very catchy melody and lyrics, delivered with amazing vocals. Meanwhile, I believe V intended to create a humorously confusing, scratch-your-head, thought-provoking MV that is truly open to individual interpretations. And he succeeded, don't you think?

It’s a great song. Catchy and interesting. The song and the MV are very much in Tae’s unique style.

El video muestra la diversidad del amor, edades, géneros, culturas. Por ese contexto creo que el final, simboliza una pareja del mismo género, representado por sí mismo. This MV show our life perfectly, when we are alone the world is aggressive and you only see people with better life than you but when you are in love, you focus in your lover and don’t pay attention to the entire world. This MV is unique, original ,artistic and creative. The song is fantastic and Taehyung voice with his deep vocals and high notes are my favorite. What a great song, so creative and imaginative. I absolutely get how being alone may make you feel isolated and overtaken by the notion that everyone else is lovingly in a relationship and that being in a relationship might keep you in a bubble whilst being able to see the reality of other relationships or as not ideal when compared to yours now. But at the end whether single or alone your destiny is the same. When he wakes up with himself, I think he's hinting that you don't need a partner to be happy and that loving oneself is a prerequisite for a fulfilling relationship with someone else. You cannot make someone else happy if you're not happy with yourself.

Okay, so after watching the MV close to 20 times, I think there are 2 meanings behind the MV. 1. Love Yourself, Choose Yourself - Everything in the world ends at some point, be it relationship or friendship. But the connection that you have with yourself lasts forever. In the first part, Tae was sad but everyone around him was happy and then in the next he was happy and everyone else was sad. Only by loving yourself can you be truly happy and see the world around you happy as well. 💜🥰 2. Embrace Life, Death is Inevitable In the first part, when Tae dies, his facial expression is sad/neutral but in the 2nd part, he has a smile on his face. I think the meaning behind it is, take chances, achieve your goals, death is inevitable so you might as well take risks and do things that you really want to do so that when you die, you die knowing that you had a good life and made tons of great memories. 😁✌️

One reactor said the death scenes can be metaphor for the end of friendship. Whether they got together as lovers or not, ,the friendship ends.

V’s dry humour is totally depicted to the max in this mv, he did say it’s a witty song about the and of friendship and the beginning of something else. This mv really has the sense of humour V has, dry, sarcastic with dark undertones and the smirk at the end is so Tae, his ‘gotchya’ face. Lol. Loved it. But for me the best takeaway was the song, the vocal gymnastics and the sound choir at the end. I can’t wait to see this performed live especially with the soul choir that backed him in the song. It will be such a great live.

I always enjoy songs with multiple meanings. That's art. And V's clever humor and lovely voice is just 'chef's kiss'!

The mv was so well done, I loved it. And the song is so good. Taehyung is such a great actor too. The message I got from it was don't waste your time with people who take your for granted and take advantage of you. You don't need to be in a relationship to be happy. This song came out in the week of Suga's birthday and he also dies and comes back as two people in his music videos Daechwita and Haegeum. " back to like '09" they coincidentally also used to get the same bus in Daegu before they knew each other.

For me, the character in the video has, being in a couple, idealized because everyone around him seems to be in one, so then he kinda imagines the whole thing and at the end wakes up to himself like loving yourself kinda thing (a very bts thing) and discovers he should love himself first and then see what he wants (?) I don’t know that was my interpretation. Anyways l loved the video cause I love it has a sense of humor in it and also I love the representation of all kind of couples! ❤🥹

In my job I face lonely young people everyday. It's absolutely true how your perception changes in both of the alternatives whether you're single or not, but at the end of the day it's only you with you elaborating things. What matters is to be in a healthy relationship with yourself. Of course the mv is ambiguous with many interpetations, but that's V's geniality...What a freaking smart and talented man! Expressing himself and his needs in a such elegant way.

The way interpreted, the end of the video is that there’s a sort of death that can happen (perhaps a death of self ) in hyper focusing on your relationship status, and ultimately, we have just ourselves, and that’s who we need to focus on. He suffered the same end, whether he was in a relationship or alone, but he woke up and he realized that he had himself and it was a friendly face that he woke up to, I think it was a happy ending. And I think the narrative of the song is different than the video but I love both of them they’re equally profound and sweet.

Love the song, Tae sounds awesome. To me, being miserable worrying about whether you are alone or not isn't worth it because your going to die one day regardless. So why not love yourself and just be happy all the time. The MV is hilarious at some parts, love it.

When someone doesn't have a love life, he think everyone who are in relationships are perfect and very loving. But afterhe get into the same situation he realized no one is perfect (see their fightings and imperfection side) and they have their own problems too which he didn't notice earlier. So love yourself first and the best answer until you find a friend which will never end.

So much of what we think is the world around us is simply the fantasy we are playing out in our own head. I love his smile at the end, as if to say, "Nothing to worry about." He serves us two fantasies on a plate, and then smiles. But there are a million more that can be served up. 💜

My take to the ending was kind of symbolizing that even if we aren't in a relationship, we can learn to enjoy life just being on our own as well! It's so important to love yourself and be able to be independent without relying on always being in a relationship.

I think V waking up beside himself and smiling at the end means that he’s still alone but that’s okay. He has come to terms that being by himself isn’t necessarily lonely. Loving himself (himself as a partner shown figuratively), is okay. And not necessarily lonely.

I think it's just simple, how he wants his relationship to be more. He died alone with out love the first time, it showed the people around him who had love..... then he got his desire to be ;more than friends, so then he died again, showing the difference he died not alone, but the people around highlighted OTHERS who don't have that love relationship again. The ending of two of him, same person, but we go thru times of love and times without it, but we are the same person.

I kind of found the death at the end of both scenes as like we can give our life to the feelings of loneliness and bitterness, on the flip of the side we can give our life to our relationships, either way we wake up every day with ourselves. Whether you’re in the relationship you want or not - you gotta be ok being with you. Which to me very much falls in line with BTS message- love yourself. I think it adds great context to the song because listening to the song alone- it’s a beautiful song about love (maybe unrequited, friendship into love, past love?) but the end of the MV emphasis their message of self love.
