Falco died of severe injuries received on 6 February 1998, 13 days before his 41st birthday, when his Mitsubishi Pajero collided with a bus on the road linking the towns of Villa Montellano and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.

1985-MTV played music videos 24/7 (and they also broadcast all 19 hours of Live Aid). I worked three jobs and didn't sleep much because I made time for MTV. Back then it seemed like the music and good times with it would last forever (also, you could get a good concert seat for 12-20 bucks). There wasn't a good reason to miss a great music act like Falco, or Sammy Hagar or Journey and so on. Thank you Mia and Juliet for keeping the music alive.

One of the things I loved about growing up in the 80’s is the musical cultural boom from Europe and the UK. We learned so much. It took us from our comfort zone of R & B and soul and gave us more education than any school could. I’m forever grateful for music.

I was one of those kids that were obsessed with this song when it came out back in the 1980s. It was part of a cultural moment when composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) was extremely popular. His music was everywhere, there was a hit play in London and then New York that had just become an Oscar-winning movie (called 'Amadeus'), and then Falco had this banger of a song. None of us knew really what the heck he was saying...but it was so infectious that it became a huge hit here in the US. There is an even better version of this song (which is actually Falco's...in this, he's just performing it with Opus) where he has a full symphony orchestra behind him and it just rocks! Other Falco bangers are "Vienna Calling" and "Der Kommisar" (there are two versions of that one...Falco's German-language one and an English one by After The Fire, both are really good!). If you like movies...see 'Amadeus' which is an excellent film with performances by Tom Hulce as Mozart and F. Murray Abraham as Antonio Salieri (who won the Oscar for Best Actor) that are amazing!!!

He was a superstar, he was popular He was exalted, because he had flair He was a virtuoso, he was a rock idol And everybody screamed: "Come and rock me Amadeus!" It was around 1780 and it was in Vienna No plastic money any more, the banks were against him Everyone knew where the debts came from He was a ladies' man, women loved his punk He was a superstar, he was popular He was too exalted, and that was his flair He was a virtuoso, he was a rock idol And everybody's still screaming: "Come and rock me Amadeus!"

I took German language in high school. My freshman year was 1991, just right after Falco’s peak in America with this song. My German teacher was from Germany and he had Falco’s greatest hits album on cassette so he let me borrow it to record it. He had quite a few #1 hits in Germany but Rock Me Amadeus was his only American hit. The full version is about 7:00 long. He raps in English and German, goes through a chronological history of Amadeus Mozart. He also did the original Der Komissar, in which he does the whole song in German but drops an English F bomb in the middle of it lol He has a song called Jeanie which is actually quite serious if you translate it. Tragically Falco was killed in a car accident in the late 1990s.

yes, but he had a great American career ahead of him: Richard Branson had given him a golden bridge, but he wanted not to go further with American showbizz. He had great songs, until he died...in a great violence..

@@francemary1863 He was a one hit wonder in America with Rock Me Amadeus in 1985. He died in 1998. Long after his career here was over. Maybe he was still popular in Europe but in 1998 Third Eye Blind, Sheryl Crow, Hanson, and Backstreet Boys were what was popular in America and Falco’s music was a distant memory if that. And Richard Branson is British, not American.

Hey ladies, welcome to New Wave music ! These were the artists and songs that dominated the charts during the heyday of MTV, that is, when they used to play music. If you're interested in exploring more, there are lots of suggestions below (including a large batch I added to someone else's comment). Most New Wave songs were catchy and radio-friendly, and you might find yourselves singing along with your Mom around the house.
