Two Girls React to Danny Carey - Pneuma by Tool

Hey you guys! We hope you liked our first drum cam reaction! It is very exciting to witness the drummers work. Most of the time we get to appreciate the singers, guitarists and Bass players. But for the first time, Mia and I were able to appreciate and fall in love with technique, skill and mastery in the art of the drum set. Additionally, this is not a typical drum set either; Danny Carrey's drum far exceeds conventional drum set that we have in seen in drum stores and in some of the other music videos that we have reacted to! We truly enjoyed this 11 minute masterful drum playing to Tool's Pnuema! I believe this is why Danny is in Tool, because of his experience and complete dominance of his drum kit! LOL! If you liked our reaction to this drum cam and you would like us to react to another drum solo, please leave a Like, Share, Subscribe and drop a comment down below! And as always, stay safe and we'll see you in our next video!

"Before this gets any crazier" she says. Not realizing that at the moment she paused it Danny was using each limb to play 4 different beats each in a different time. Right arm = tabla drum; Left arm = rim shots with varying intensity; - Left leg = hi-hat cymbal - Right leg = kick bass.

He starts his hands as Swiss triplets, then converts right hand to double stroke rolls alternating in the triplets. Not only that, each arm is following different patterns. At about 14:53, his right arm rotates between 5 drums, then 4, then 3, then 2 before going into the finale of the segment (easiest to count from the snare.) Meanwhile, his left arm is following different patterns.

Dude, I play drums, and it usually is like that. Every limb for itself. It is not a coal digging machine. Carey is good, but... There's a whole lot of old and new drummers doing unimaginable work, making Daney quite mediocre! If you interested and give a try, listen to Haken for example. The drummer there, is a beast, especially in writing music and creating exceptional art on drums.

@@petegrusky2715 , I know drummers. I used to play some myself back in the day. I know a lot of musicians, in fact. And not a single one of them would call Danny Carey mediocre. I'm sure the drummer in Haken would say the same thing.

There's several songs that use 33/8; but it is rare. Much like he's said, he breaks longer rhythms into pulses (for example, 46&2 breakdown and solo is 7/8(x3)+8/8, but he counts the 7 as 1-2-1-2-1-2-3. This breakdown works for a lot of the songs on Fear.

The whole interlude really shows why Danny is considered one of the GOATs and for sure, the best modern drummer of his time. He is the master of polyrhythms. He is using each of his limbs to play different parts simultaneously. All the while, he is jumping between different parts of his kit with each stick. And this isn't even a drum solo. It's just him playing what he considers to be a regular drum part to the song. Add to that his fast and complicated fills, plus his impossible calm demeanor behind the kit, he is truly a site to behold.

Awesome you girls are so cool and reacting to some great songs!! Seriously now it is time for some the *Yeah Yeah Yeahs* 3 member band. No reaction video on YT yet... YET!! Amazing vocalist full of emotion Karen O(also plays piano) The other two artists speak for themselves. So i recommend the songs *Maps* and *Despair* plzzz ... youse and the viewers won`t regret it. Thank you (Smiles)

Thanks for reviewing one of Tool's best songs. Danny is a master. He is playing poly rhythms. There are two or even three patterns going on simultaneously. That is why people commented on him having two or three brains! Listen to the rest of Fear Inoculum, Tool's best album!

Although I agree with you, I never saw Bonham or Peart play 4/4 with the left foot, 9/8 with the right foot, 14/8 with the left hand, and 3/4 with the right hand at the same time. Danny took his influencers to another level. :) There are definitely a handful of Bonham fills in this song!

Thank you. You guys are the best! Pay attention to the guitar when trying to nod your head to Tool. The drums are hard to follow. Even professional drummers have a hard time keeping time with him on their first viewing.

Y’all are funny with your reactions to his fills. I get it. Danny Carrey is an absolute master of his craft. He’s got that muscle memory, subconsciously knows where all his toms snare bass cymbals all of them are. What impresses me the most is that he wrote these parts. They are incredibly intricate and challenging to play. These guys were heavily influenced by a band named “King Crimson”
