This beautiful and not-forgotten theme to the movie "Two For The Road" starring Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney was composed, arranged and orchestrated by Henry Mancini. I first heard Vic Damone's rendition on a recording in the 1980's and it's deceptively simple complexity interested my hands/heart and I've played it many times since then. I recently obtained the Mancini original and wow!, what melodic beauty.
The 1967 Stanley Donen (British) film garnered multiple award nominations and more details are available here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_for...) but, notably, the visual beauty of the scenery of Southern France and Italy is enhanced by featuring some of the iconic up-scale vehicles in production at the time including: Mercedes Benz; British MG; VW; Alfa-Romeo.
While I've yet to watch the film, it's certainly on my watch list and I encourage you to seek it out also, as much for the classic of-it's-time acting/production techniques as for the star quality of the leading actors, the cars, and - of course, the music.
