    Hi, good job, I've done this too, I just wired the inputs of the flybacks in parallel and then the outputs in series, it was easier that way for me and I dont like batteries... My luck was that I've found a transformer which has 24V and around 20A...since my multi meter cant measure more I dont know for sure xD but mine doesn't needs a little bit of time to grow the sparks it just needs a min of 6-7cm to make a spark it works so awesome !!! You were the one who inspired me to male thos, who showed me how awesome the electricity is !!! Thank you, I soon will make a Tesla coil with it!!! Thank you again and have a good day!

    I built it. It works well, got over 42 kV on the output (measured with a high voltage probe). But while I was so excited about it (and cranking up the power supply!) one of the flybacks failed. So this setup produces high voltage, but 1) only for short time 2) not in short circuit or no-load mode (leads to internal breakdown quickly). So be careful!

    1. when you wind wires on FB core first wind it then put the iron holder over the wires. 2 you can wind coils with center taps directly on the flyback cores and connect them completely in series (best 3+3 for high voltage) or you can wind half coil on one core and the other half on the other, just make sure you use thick wires and connect the capacitor as near as possible to the coil if you do so. 3 get a straw, do a hole in it, put the wire and now you have chicken stick. great video and you can make part 2 with some audio signal on a second wire on the input inductor

    I think you would pull a longer arc if you moved the wire upward as the spark is intending to go. The ionized air is conductive and warm, so it wants to rise--follow this path. This is precisely why the arc of a Jaccobs's ladder goes up. A Jaccob's ladder will not work if placed on it's side or upside down, as this is not the natural direction of the heated ions.

    How did you extract that center core from an old flyback? And could i use two flybacks in parallel to increase its current or make the flyback last longer due to shared load = less heat? I know you could increase current by adding capacitors since adding capacity would decrease the voltage thus increasing the current... but that bit is too tricky to find a good balance.

    If you bypass the diodes in the flybacks or wind your own flyback secondary cores, can this circuit drive them to produce AC instead of DC? Perhaps by winding each half of primary in different directions?

  • @Chuckiele

    @Chuckiele

    6 жыл бұрын

    Most flybacks you will find are filled with solid resin and its impossible to get rid of the diodes, making them useless for many applications, as it usually outputs pulsed DC. This one however outputs smooth DC as you can see from the arc being able to grow bigger when pulling the wires apart after it jumped, which can be useful for a Jacobs ladder for example. Winding the secondary yourself is pretty much impossible aswell because it needs a huge amount of turns in a small area perfectly isolated, but you can find some rare flybacks that either have the diodes outside of the case, or no diodes at all, which makes them perfect for many AC projects.

Does the higher voltage give a risk of them arcing through the core, thus reducing the life of your flyback? Thought I'd note a correction for you. You said the flybacks are rated at 12kv, when you connect them in series on the output and in parallel on the input, the voltage of the two is added together, not multiplied. Your resulting out voltage is more around 24kv, not 400kv. Also the distance at witch your ark begins seams to support the 24kv range. Look up how to built transformers and when you get deep enough you'll see whats happening when you do unusual configurations with them. You discovered one: 2 transformers paralell input, series output, twice the voltage output, twice the current input, same voltage input. Hope I was helpful. Have fun!

    judging by the lengh of that arc and the lack of audible noise, the flybacks output smooth DC and deliver high current. When looking for the voltage, the distance at which the arc begins is important.

    Mightn't it be even better to wire connect the primaries of the flybacks so that the flybacks are 180 degrees out of phase? Then you could connect the two bottom pins together for the series connection, and obtain your high tension from the two high tension wires of the flybacks. This would be more elegant, and possibly avoid potential HV arcs occuring where you don't want them.

    奇實要使电成直缐,可用珫璃皿管型,皿管头易導电功能,集电而皿管出。 若无伺服机可控晶体,自研防備,以防末来机器人假失控而自卫。 但勿伤人用。
