The organizers didn't do their job promoting the event. I am sorry, it really sucks. I love how you keep going at it and it doesn't defeat you. Also, this weekend's market was a bad for me too, but I used cold wet towels on my neck to keep cool in the Texas heat.

OMG OOOOOOOOMG!!!! 2 minutes in and I'm commenting lol I try soooo often to recommend the Ryobi fans for events and I feel like these are the most under utilized items for people!!! i also use the 150 watt power inverter which is SOOOO useful to charge my phone/square reader OR if it's an early morning market (I used to do Hot air balloon festivals that start before sunrise) or a late evening market it will power LIGHTS!!! I am a MAJOR Ryobi fan for many of my craft fair/event needs!! I also utilize their spot lights! I am now disabled and unable to do the physical craft fairs/events which sucks so Now I am on WhatNot live streaming my products weekly. I'm extremely thankful I can still do what I love even though I have to miss out on events. Ok Edit at the end of the video. NOT sure at all how to accomplish this HOWEVER someone with some actual following should start a website where vendors can RATE the event planners/events etc. I mean I have heard of organizers "black listing" vendors so why shouldn't there be a place for vendors to go post the good, bad and ugly regarding events and organizers. How easy they are to work with etc...... I obviously am a nobody lol so some vendors should ban together and start this. sorry the weekend sucked, being handicapped I would be devastated putting my body through the process for it to be this bad!!

I love my Ryobi fan!! I have two of their smaller clip ones too that I used for our boys when we had a stroller wagon but I don't pull those out as often anymore but they are also so good!! I love the inverter too that's what I use to charge my things and power my lights too lol! I tell everyone about them I get asked about the inverter and lights (when I'm at night markets) all the time!! I definitely think I'm going to try to transition into doing more live selling on TikTok but I'm nervous I would not do good lol. I can film my videos but sometimes I do have to do a couple of takes because I misspeak a lot lol. I will try to figure out how to make such a website lol!! I don't even think these organizers were even paying attention to vendors until the very moment they decided to block the exit so yes I think physically blocking people from leaving is actually illegal!!!

We did all new events for the spring and came up short almost every time. I chose fun ones with carnivals to travel to with my kids and they had a great times but those are not good times for home sewn things - a vendor selling tumblers with knock off branding and curse words had a great time for example - they took advantage of the drinking and loud music and didn’t have price signs 😮 anyhow that’s not my lane. When people wanted refunds after figuring out the prices she would say “you know I’ll be a charged fees now for the sale and refund” - anyhow lessons learned.

I feel like I may just transition into doing only milk mart and markets for makers lol because I agree there haven't been very many markets that are that great this year. That's also another reason why I think maybe instead of doing markets trying to do better with TikTok and Instagram and try to get my online sales more consistent. That's really weird and hopefully that person becomes known to organizers for their deceptive ways! I could not imagine not being clear with pricing! I will say though it is a little on the people to make sure they are of sound mind while purchasing to know what they are paying for so both parties are kind of in the wrong there!

Hey Bailey! So sorry your weekend was a bust. It’s always horrible to see when we’ve seen how much prep you put into every event you do. Thank you for sharing. It can’t be easy to record your closing round up after such a weekend so well done you for plodding on through. I will say though, be careful not to burn yourself out. Burnout is easy to fall into and hard to get out of so be sure to take some time for yourself soon. x

Thank you so much for your kindness! At least with all the work I put in last week I haven't felt so much pressure this week so that's how I'm looking at it! Hopefully doing some better markets coming up will help keep me from burnout, I've definitely started to feel a little but of it lately with so many less than stellar events. I do have a weekend off in July and I think my parents may take our kiddos to the beach so that will be some good vacay time for me lol. I'm trying to just take it nice and easy this week and next though, both my upcoming markets are close by and inexpensive so a lot less pressure!

So sorry you had to go through that. My niece is a ceramic tile artist and use to travel long distance to a few shows, and finally said she was stopping. Too expensive and not enough return. I’m sure you will bounce back. Good luck.

they made the rows way too wide, which makes it easy for people not to impulse buy. Really teaches me how much location and layout really matters. thanks for sharing both the ups and downs.

I know it was so weird how empty it was! Thankfully the next few markets I have are either usually pretty good or close by and not expensive so I don't have too much riding on them! I think I may take a break in August though to try to relax a bit lol

I know I was very disappointed!! Yes hopefully my market this weekend is good, it is very inexpensive so I don't have too much riding on it. It is also a midafternoon market so hopefully it won't be as hot! This spicy weather is a lot though, literally whenever I take my boys outside one of them without fail says "Oooh today is spicy!" lol

Might be that they vendor management didn't do enough advertising or people are basically tapped out as far as discretionary spending.

I think there were a ton of negative factors impacting it this year for sure, I think a major thing is that most of the people in attendance appeared to be people who were there with the organization not the public. Hopefully next year it goes better for those who choose to attend!

I’m so sorry that is how this event went for you!! I’ve also learned to only to craft/vendor events only. I’ve done way too many events that also had vendors and have never done well at those. Most people went for the other event and don’t shop the vendors. I also have done soooooo many events where the other vendors say “last year it was soooo much better”. Just once I want to hear that this year (the year I’m at lol) was better than last!!

Yes moving forward I'm definitely only going to be doing markets that are just markets and not other events! This weekend is one that's not exactly that but I don't have too much invested in it so I'm just going with it. I am totally in the same boat, I would say 90% of the markets I've done other vendors say last time/year was so much better/this year is so slow I want soooooo bad like you to hear that this year is soooo much better than last lol!!

Bailey I work at lowes and they stress hydration during the hot months. We’re always told to switch up between water and sports drinks, anything with electrolytes. They send us these hydration vitamin packs to use in water . Also maybe look into getting a camelpak for events.

I definitely do a bad job drinking water because I don't want to have to get up and use the restroom during events lol so I need to change that habit!! I'll start packing some gatorades or other electrolyte drinks for events like this from now on!! Thank you so much for caring about me!!

Ahhh I’m so sorry it turned out so bad… I had a really bad feeling about it last week when you said it was a fishing derby event. I think you hit the nail on the head at the end when you said you won’t do any other events far away that aren’t strictly a market. I think that is part of what hurts the 904 pop up in Jacksonville. They seem great, it’s really busy but people are there for the food, music and events not for buying things. The draw to the event is not the market vendors… I think any event that is based around something totally unrelated to shopping doesn’t really work….. You are right about the tent holding in the heat, when I have my walls up mine actually zip together so it’s even more enclosed than yours and it truly makes it like a sauna inside…. I wish you luck this weekend, you deserve a good event!!! I like Lake Mary, it seems like a good place for a market, fingers crossed for you!!!😊

It's very weird because so many of the vendors there said last year they did so great on Sunday (which also reinforces that they shouldn't have made us be there Saturday!!) but that they changed venues this year and maybe that had some part in it? It was very frustrating especially when I walked to get my car during the event what I would think would be the main parking area and it was EMPTY! That also indicated to me that either no one was attending or the separate entrance was where everybody was so either way no good! I still get the emails for 904 pop up just to keep the anger alive lol and I saw recently they UPPED the price!! And to top off the sketchiness of it they don't tell you the price increase they say email them for the payment link with the new price?? Like you can't just tell everyone what the price is?? I meant to mention that in a weekly vlog I may today lol. I didn't mention this but I originally started to put the tent walls up because it was getting dark and it actually did rain a little bit while I was setting up. We are roasting ourselves in our tents though lol. Thank you so much I hope it's good too!

Hey! Im a new viewer and ive been enjoying ur videos. I too hve a sm business and do vendor events. I only hve a few under my belt so far. I hvnt ventured into participating in outdoor events bc of the heat and im a bit intimidated by putting up a tent 🙂‍↔️ur really inspiring and i love ur set up. Ppl dont know how much energy it takes to set up shop at one of these events and to lose money whn uve given it ur all is certainly painful. But as my loved ones tell me, "keep going!" Thank you so much for being here! It's definitely really hot where I am so outside events are pretty crazy lol. I appreciate your support so much and we definitely do just need to keep going! I will show some close ups at my next event of what I do to secure my tent, my tent is pretty heavy duty so I typically just use 10 pound tent weights on each leg, if it is supposed to be really windy I also use cinder blocks!

So sorry to hear this didn’t go as planned Bailey. I couldn’t believe how people were just walking through and not even stopping at any tents, that’s crazy! I see how much you put into making your items and setting up and taking down all of that by yourself & it is SO MUCH work and I hate seeing you not have a good return on your investment. I don’t believe it’s because people don’t have the money, they have it for their mani & pedi’s, for their expensive vacations, the newest electronics, their alcohol and dinners out and Biden has the best & highest stock market ever. People are making a lot of money in their 401k’s and unemployment is at one of the all time lows. So it’s not the economy. The market is flooded with crafters, and craft shows/markets are available every weekend and so many people are crafters now and can make a lot of their own items for themselves and as gifts and summer is always a slow time for sales, even in retail stores. It will pick up and before you know it you will be selling so many items for the holidays ! Stay positive and keep smiling, you got this girl !! 💖

It was very interesting looking back at the footage and seeing just how few people stopped at anyones booth! I definitely think these people at this event did have the money (they had fancy fishing rods lol) but didn't really care to stop because they weren't there for shopping. I think I've just had some bad events lately that had very low attendance. Hopefully the next few markets go better and definitely closer to the holidays should go better!!

It sounds like the event coordinator(s) did not do a good job organizing the event (nor promoting the market). Did you and other vendors give feedback to t he organizers of the event? I would suggest that feedback be given. But I also agree with what you have said that having vendors at this type of event is not such a good idea.

It is crazy because the person who contacted us vendors sent very in depth emails and seemed very organized and even when we got there on Saturday to set up it seemed very well put together. I have not given feedback but I definitely will send them an email and let them know my thoughts! I agree completely because I also thought it was people just like fishing at a pier or something but apparently it was teams of people leaving on boats for most of the day?? It also appeared that most of the people in attendance were the volunteers!!

Lol I know but it is so ~crisp~ and yummy!! I usually bring a water bottle too but I definitely dig on some Coke Zeros. Thankfully the next couple of markets I have are either in the evening, short and closeby, or indoors so I'll definitely be able to hydrate with just my water bottle!!

I’ve watched a lot of your videos and I have a few tips for you. Firstly, I would recommend only doing markets you’ve been to or vended at that you know are busy. Secondly, I wouldn’t really recommend doing markets on weekdays. Saturdays are definitely the busiest and then Saturdays. I would also recommend not doing markets far away where you have to pay for accommodation and travel costs. The expenses are very high and it’s very hard to make money unless you know that it’s a very large event where you’ll definitely make money. Your products are amazing and I love your videos! I hope these tips help!

Thank you for your tips! It's definitely tricky figuring out which markets are good and which ones aren't so I do think it is important to try out different ones even if you aren't exactly sure how it will go. For example this one last year was an extremely successful event for a lot of the vendors so it's unlucky that this year was so bad! Saturday markets are definitely the best ones to do, I used to do a few Wednesday ones a while ago and they were never really successful, I've done some Friday ones that have been good and I do have a Friday one next month that I have been told by friends is always very good and busy so hopefully that works out! I think traveling and having to stay overnight is a risky thing to do but sometimes it can pay off depending on the event. Thankfully this is the first overnight event that went sour. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. I don't know why people invite vendors to their events and then treat them poorly. It's like they just wanted your money. It looked like people were just using the vendor area as a walk through to the main event. Really poorly planned. Your booth looked so bright and inviting. This is 100% their fault. People out there organising events need to understand that vendors work very hard and how much effort is put into just getting to and from markets. Don't let it get you down. It's easier said than done, but this was completely the organisers fault. And not letting vendors leave early? Blocking them in. Shame on them! Keep positive :)

It was very odd, load in on Saturday was extremely organized and then by 2 on Saturday it was like a free for all that continued to Sunday. People were definitely just using it as a walk through. I talked to some other vendors that said even the food trucks weren't hardly making anything! Sometimes for events like these it feels like the organizers just want vendors there to make it seem like it's busy or that there is more going on there but then it feels like we are just being used as props for sure. The blocking them in is so insane to me especially because most of us were gone by then and they were just trying to leave, there was no purpose to blocking them in it just made those who could have to leave by driving on the sidewalk or effectively kidnapped they other vendors!!

I hope you vented to the organisers, you should ask for a partial refund of booth fee.

I definitely think from now on I am not traveling over an hour to any event that isn't a major event lol! Thankfully my next few markets are closeby and I won't have to worry about travel!

I'm also a market vendor and craft maker like you. I have stopped doing markets lately, one for a break but reason two is people don't have money. With what the ecomonists and financial experts are saying, I just can't keep doing this and waste money on product when people are out of money. I'm personally a saver and very frugal so our family is good but most people just don't have anything left over for extra shopping. With bideonmics he's hurt us small businesses. I pray this can be repaired but just lookout for news on what is going on with consumers! Focusing online sales for a bit may be a better solution in the future as I see a major depression coming. The housing market is about to burst. I know in Florida people are not buying homes and the inflation on property tax is squeezing everyone out of their homes they just bought. Your product is so cute and fun so it's not you....its the dumb economy! Keep your head up!

I'm booked for July but I think August I may take the whole month off. Most of my events for the rest of June (except for markets for makers) are pretty inexpensive and close by so they won't be huge losses if they don't perform but definitely this year has been really slow at markets. I think it is definitely a great idea for us to try to focus on our online presence and try to grow an audience that way so that we aren't spending money on booth fees, spending a ton of our time at under performing markets, and it also keeps us out of the heat! I hope things start to pick up soon but who knows! I appreciate your kindness and support hopefully I can get good at making TikToks lol
