    It's very common. I was out for a jog there not too long ago and I see firefighters and ambulance, apparently a man jumped to his death. There are signs all over the park saying to not go over the walls due to unstable ground and even signs for people contemplating suicide to call a number. Such a beautiful park but kinda sad place considering its history of this.

Since the park restroom was in sight I decided to go in but their was caution tape around it. I thought maybe one of the toilets was broken or something because I had not heard anything that day about any problems there. I walked in anyway and their was blood all over half way down into the bathroom. A middle stall had blood on the floor, bathroom doors and a ton in the toilet. I never went back to that park after that. I have always wondered what happened in that bathroom.

    The fireman pays his respects. Just as the stretcher was about to bottom out on the sidewalk, the one fireman stepped in and grabbed it so it would gently settle down on the sidewalk. My son has acute diabetes and in the last three months I had to call the paramedics three times as taken him to emergency was out of the question. They were nothing but first class professionals in their feelings and duties with my son. Informative to me, also. Hats off to all the paramedics in the Sun City/Menifee areas.

    Sunken City isn’t safe and that’s coming from someone who goes there at least once a year. Just to get in there’s the legal way and then there’s the way most people go. It’s a steep incline. I’ve fallen on my butt before. but this is the third accident like this I’ve heard of and I’m really considering not risking my life anymore. God bless these two souls. My condolences to the family.

  • @nannettefreeman7331

    @nannettefreeman7331

    3 жыл бұрын

    There's really no "legal" way. There's a "safer" way, but the area is "officially" off limits to the public, although that's not enforced. So far as I know, there's 3 ways you can get in: (1) by Pt Fermin park, which is very steep & treacherous (2) by the Vista point at Bluff, which I'm not that familiar with & (3) by hoofing it all the way around from Cabrillo Beach, which you have to plan very carefully in order to get back out before the tide comes in. Officials KNOW that people go there by the dozens (probably more) every day. They need to either make a safe hiking path or enforce the "no trespassing" signs. I see cops patrolling the park all the time, & they can clearly see people on the other side of the fence, but I've never seen them say a word to anyone. Having said all that, these two people didn't fall from the Sunken City side of the park. They were West of the lighthouse, from what I understand, trying to get that perfect selfie with that gorgeous view in the background, which is one of the 3 ways people wind up at the bottom of the cliffs: Selfies, Sunken City & suicide. I take my dog to the park just below the Korean Bell pretty much every afternoon, & I see helicopters & fire trucks there at the cliffs, I'd say once a WEEK! Twice last week, when this happened. Search & Rescue/Recovery missions ain't cheap. You'd think with the frequency this is happening, they'd come up with an idea to avoid it.

    No landfill, sunken city is an active landslide area. The bottom layers of the surface there is not stable, there is an ash layer underneath that acts as a sliding plane when it is over-saturated with water, causing the cliffs to crumble very easily and fall to the ocean. Very dangerous.
