Yay! So glad to get to know the rosy bolete. It sounds wonderful. I hope to find one one day.

That pallidorosea could have been pseudosensibilis. It bruises darker and faster. The smell isn’t usually as strong, but it can be pretty powerful.

Thank you for your information. I'm a multi-generation forager but some of my memory is hazy and from when I was younger so the book you referred is one I've been searching for and just placed an order.

The “bolete filter” is another great resource. Use it as a key. There’s now an app in addition to the old website.

I am a delivery driver in Houston TX and I have been seeing these rosey boletes in the hundreds on my route. I didn't know for sure if they were edible. If you come to my youtube page I have a recent video I uploaded of one I picked and pulled apart. Prior to your video I was under the belief that they were toxic because of the blue staining but im growing more confidence and will probably try them next time I find a fresh flush (most are withered now)

After watching video I made notice the stem did not bruise where you handled it. The odor should resemble bullion . This could certainly be in the baorangia group but isn't one I have eaten. There is a Facebook group dedicated to boletes that I recommend . Boletes of North America.

My husband and I were certain we had a bloom of these in our forest. We picked and ate one. Have been sick ever since-even went to the hospital at one point. Other than not knowing to smell it, ours really was identical to the Rosy Bolete in this video. Can you advise what it was that we ate? It has been 3 days and still not well.

Yes there are similar boletes , some of which do not stain blue or if they do , slowly. None that I'm aware of that give off the odor of Bouillon . To me it is certainly a good factor for field ID . There is a wonderful Facebook group for just Boletes. Members are very current on taxonomy changes and the group also offers references for Bolete filters . Boletes of North America.

when you cut chicken soup bolete in half, does the inside (meat) stain blue as well, if so, does it turn fast or slow?

Usually the flesh stains blue very slowly ( if at all) where the poors and outside stem bruise immediately
